you are no different than people who were crying about olgesby being cut over ball or erik walden being cut. you think you're some sort of super scout and know where all the little hidden gems are on the end of the roster. in the end, none of these players would have had anything to the success of the team this year.

So you want to lump me in with the tear jerkers. Ok, my opinion (Mr. Super Scout) is:

1. Fergy is a starting DT/NT. It would have been better to ditch Bowden and have Fergy/ Tank rotate that position putting Ratliff out at DE. His age and salary had to have been a factor in this trade.
2. Fasano was a good #2 TE, not so much a blocker you would perfer at that #2. He does have catching ability just never would have pushed our all pro TE to get his touches.
3. Akin was a starter at ILB. A serviceable vet, but our upgrade is totally welcomed.

All three of these players are starters in South Dallas (not that they have tons of competition down there). Still none of these guys are backend roster players as you put it.

Maybe some under the table hand shaking going on here:
Garrett
Ireland
Zach
Hudson
Fergy trade
Fasano/Akin trade

I just question the trades and their value. Somethings fell our way in the draft and it seems to have panned out but we didn't know that while trading.

I saw it, but I thought it was b/s. You could tell from the first OTA that ZT was a player. No way Parcells missed on that one. The problem with my theory, though, is I'm not really sure why they'd do it all on the DL when they could have just made the moves outright.
I'd agree with you if it wasn't for Zach's salary. No room on a rebuilding roster for someone that old making that much.

Fasano wouldn't have made the team this year, even if the Cowboys didn't draft Bennett. Witten, Curtis, Hannah are all better than Fasano. Akin would have been cut also. We got a 4th rd pick for two guys who would have been cut. Did we get Choice with that 4th rd pick? If so, great deal.

Martellus Bennett would've had the same line. Pennington's TE is his best friend, noodle arm can't do anything but check down.

He'll have a solid year, but he's just an average TE.

It's nice that Pennington found himself a new friend and the Jets let them play catch,,, but c'mon, non-threatening TEs like Fasano are a dime a dozen. Our 3rd stringer Tony Curtis is better than him.

I know all the "at the end of the day" stuff. But honestly, it's all speculation about how it worked out. The fact is we traded a TE away for a 4th who played gangbusters yesterday (even if Ayodele didn't) and then dropped a second on another TE.

You HAVE to question the wisdom in that move.

I'd question the wisdome of THAT move if it wasn't made.

Scandrick and Choice for Fasano and Ayodele ? You have to be a football idiot not to make that move.

I have no idea what Scandrick has to do with anything. I guess since Choice is a Cowboys he's totally worth two players traded away only to use a second to replace one of those players, based on an entire one game.

The you have no idea is the right start.

By trading the first pick in the 4th round, the one they wouldn't have had if they followed your advice, the Cowboys were able end up with Choice in the 4th round, Scandrick in the 5th round, and two picks from the Cleveland Browns for next year.

It's a no brainer and it's silly to criticize it.

I liked Fasano when he was here, and he looked pretty good yesterday... but we really didn't need him. To me, he always seemed liked the mini-Witten... in other words a much less talented version of Witten. With Bennett we actually have a guy who has the *potential* to be a great talent. With Fasano, we saw what we were getting, and in my opinion he wasn't going to get any better. And besides, he probablly would have bolted at some point anyway to get out of Witten's shadow.

Still, I wish him nothing but the best in Miami, he was a good soldier here.

Great dig, man.

2+2=5. Should we also factor in that we spent a second rounder on a TE, whereupon the equation becomes 2nd rounder, plus Fasano, plus Ayodele all for Miami's 4th rounders, which we then parlayed into two 4th rounders.

So 2nd rounder, Fasano, Ayodele, all for Scandrick and Choice. I guess it all depends on how you want to spin it.

It's a no brainer and it's silly to criticize it.

Oh. Pardon my silliness, then. It was a brilliant theft of the Dolphins carried out meticulously by our amazing braintrust.

Uh, no. That would be true if Bennette was a " need " pick, which he wasn't.

Bennette was going to be the pick in the 2nd round, barring a drop of either Sweed or Hardy, so Fasano was going to be either cut or traded. The Cowboys did NOT drafted Bennette because they traded Fasano. It's actually the complete opposite: Fasano was traded because Bennette was drafted.

The moves they made, under that circumstance, was brilliant.

Scandrick, Choice, and draft picks for next year. Once again, something that would not have happened had they followed your wishes. It's not a spin, it's a fact.

Oh. Pardon my silliness, then. It was a brilliant theft of the Dolphins carried out meticulously by our amazing braintrust.

Silliness is pardoned and it wasn't a " theft " by anybody. It was, simply, a move that worked out great for both sides. The Dullphins got two players they desperately needed, and the Cowboys did not want, for their depleted roster and the Cowboys got a pick that helped them get 2 solid players and multiple choices for next year.

No brainer.

All your spinning has made me dizzy. I can't wait to see our french TE on the field. Thanks for taking the time to explain how 2+2 can equal 5 if 2 is not a need pick.

I know logic, sir - and that crap, was no logic. Next thing you know you'll be trying to convince us that if we hadn't traded Fasano and Ayodele for a 4th, we'd have never gotten Romo.

BRB. Starting that epic thread before someone steals my thunder.
