some say they just want the best 5 up front.

i've disagreed from the very statement.

the center anchors the line. makes the calls. more or less is the star of the line. frederick has shown to be smart, can make the calls, and can "see" what is going on. we've not had that in a long long time. the center QB's the line.

frederick can do that. no one else we have, can.

let him be our center and we spend a few years building around him. not lobbing 5 guys on the wall to see what sticks.

Totally agree. Although I do not think Bern is the answer (long term) on the right side, he may be the best option at RG this season if he stays healthy. Without Bern, I can easily see the Cowboys going with Fred at RG and Costa at center.

Haha, still refusing to concede Arkin as an option?

I think LT-LG-C is pretty much decided. Also, RT is probably decided, though I don't think Parnell has been healthy enough this season to challenge Free for the job. The remainder of preseason should be a head-to-head competition between Arkin and Bern for the RG spot. Give them all equal opportunities and see who thrives. Also, I'd like to see a battle for the other safety spot. So far it looks like the order of ranking is: 1. Allen, 2. Johnson, 3. Wilcox.

Unless they bring in re-enforcements, Berny is your RG by default. Arkin is not an NFL starting guard.

I agree. At least Arkin's elevated his game to the point where he's a feasible player as an injury replacement. We've got a ways to go with the offseason here, but I'd need to see him play at least like he did tonight against a couple power DTs before I'd be comfortable with even that. I'd love it if he makes it a possibility, and I think the team loves his mobility. He just doesn't look strong enough to me. I still like what I see from Kowalski a lot more, but that might be my pet cat talking.

I think overall the OL passed the test last night in their 1st outing. Dallas went into the game looking to run the ball and they did a very good job of doing it. Lot more work ahead of this group but I see last night performance by OL as more positives than negitives and something they can build on through out the pre season

Yep. The line looked ok. What I liked even more was the various TE packages and what we're able to do from them. Even without Witten and Hanna in there. Pretty exciting.

i agree. To me it seemed as if the focus for the offense and the OL last night was centered around the run game and the OL I felt did a very good job of opening holes and did very well in the redzone. No doubt last night is not the tell all just a pre season game but it has to be a bit of a confidence builder for this group who has been under seige for a while. They just need to build off the positives and clean up the mistakes and stay focused. Their critics will continue to hammer them but they need to work through it.
