Quietly, Austin has matched Owens

I'm having trouble finding the "keeping his mouth shut and letting his QB lead stat", but I'm pretty sure Austin has surpassed Owen's career numbers already there.

Did anyone else notice the double move Roy did and ran the defender over? He needs to run go or slants and leave the juking off due to being too jerky or not fluid smooth.
Smiles can pull them off and leave the corner spinning in circles. Give each to his capabilities.

Love it.

The Panch,

Is your siggy updated?

Let's not forget Miles didn't even start in the first couple of games....

And you do gotta love the haters who hate on Romo. It's pathetic that they seek to post negative aspects about the team and/or players.

Owens had to leave in order for Austin to emerge for us IMO. If Owens and Roy where still the starters, Austin would either still be buried on our roster or lighting it up for the Jets.

This is dead spot on. I didn't want TO, but realized he did command respect and had good output for us. But with him and Roy Dropsy Williams on the team, Austin was never going to break out.

The thing I am kicking myself about is not that we had to ditch TO to get Austin to emerge, but I sure as hell wish we'd ditched Dropsy to do it. Austin with speed and TO would be much better than Dropsy's package.

Despite getting a late start to the season, Miles is rivaling the best production numbers-wise that Owens ever gave us. Which is quite a testament to both he and Romo, considering Owens was a top 2 receiver in the game during his time here.

Here are the numbers:

MILES AUSTIN
2009: 65 catches for 1,138 yards, 11 TDs

TERRELL OWENS
2008: 69 catches for 1,052 yards, 10 TDs
2007: 81 catches for 1,355 yards, 15 TDs
2006: 85 catches for 1,180 yards and 13 TDs

In Austin's 10 starts, he has (by my rough calculations): 60 catches for 1,057 yards and 10 TDs. It's pretty easy to figure out that translates to 6 catches for about 105 yards and one TD per game started. He has scored a TD in four straight games and has recorded 100-plus yard outings in 3 of the last 4.

Lastly, Austin currently leads all NFC receivers in yards and TDs.

Let's not kid ourselves here. With regard to the concept of matching Owens, the whole tilt was always that "RW will make us forget we let TO go". Thankfully Smiles finally stepped up and made everyone forget about both of those guys. Like any of us saw that coming... :laugh2: Thanks to Smiles, the RW > TO crowd won't have to have any crow for dinner anytime soon. ;)

This offseason I wanted a 2nd round pick from the Jets for Austin.:

I thought Hurd was the better WR of the two. Seriously.

:lmao:

The whole tilt? When Jerry was asked about it in the offseason, he mentioned Miles Austin as the reason.

Wait, nevermind, this is a Miles Austin thread, so obviously it's simultaneously a bash Roy thread. What was I thinking?

Proceed.

Thanks for your permission. I feel so much better now.

You know the truth. That's all that matters. It was always RW>TO and will make us all forget. Smiles was blind hope.

Yeah, it was blind hope when I declared him our best receiver in training camp.

Sure. You've become almost unreadable, borderline ignore level. Shame.

I think people should ignore stats for a moment when comparing the two.

The main reason Miles Austin is a far better player for the Cowboys then Terrell Owens is the fact that Miles Austin doesn't always have to have a "big" game and the offense doesn't have to be tailored around him or he will complain and start dividing the locker room.

My senses are actually in very good working order. Thanks for the concern though.
I guess it's not unquestionable that your senses may actually be working to the best of their ability right now.

It's also not unquestionable that I may never reach the pinnacle where the almighty theogt exists. I am totally not worthy. Do they sell figurines of you to pray to?

Color me surprised because I honestly didn't think Dallas could make up Owens' production. I'm quite happy to have been wrong! haha

Yeah me too. :starspin

I cannot believe that he is leading the NFC in yards and touchdowns and only started 10 games. That's unreal, especially considering that he's competing against guys like Fitzgerald, Jennings, and Calvin Johnson (even though his team sucks)

I agree, it's crazy.

As of the 10 games he's started, he's averaging about 100 yards and 1 TD per game. You can do the math as to what that adds up to had he started for all 16 games. TO never had a 1600 yard, 16 TD season.

Soooooo lets throw him in Canton. Who's with me?
