Wow. Never read/heard that pre-draft. I remember reading that there may have been some minor off the field concerns. Remember, this was the draft right after McNabb had his break out season and Jerry was desperate to not only immediately replace Aikman but also find the next McNabb. While Carter did have some good physical tools, most experts agreed he was a reach in the 2nd round even without the off-the-field stuff.
Wasn’t public. It was three guys that were friends of a friend that I was introduced to at an event a few weeks after that draft. Once I heard they were UGeorgia alum/boosters I immediately asked about Carter. They weren’t being malicious. Was more like they hoped he would quit it and be a good NFL player. I had feeling of complete doom.

That seems like something a team seriously considering drafting a player with an early pick should be able to dig up. Especially a QB. So while the draft experts maybe didnt know or publicize, I wonder if the teams knew about this...

I dunno, Jerry seemed to have his priorities straight….”he’s a Libra, I’m a Libra…”
