Quinn's defense

It was reported as a collaborative effort. The scouts find the best guys that match those traits. How they compare vs guys that don't match those traits is beyond me, but you have a point.
I was thinking about the Horn versus Surtain debate as well -- rumor was there was disagreement on those two also.

How about we learn from Marinelli and keep these coaches out of the draft room

It's been said he has a specific vision for what he wants (traits) out of his players.

He supposedly already has a better relationship with the scouts than his predecessors. I believe it was Dane Brugler who said Quinn tells the scouts what traits he's looking for and they go find those guys.

I cant ever recall any of our coordinators having such an effect on the draft but this draft has his name all over it.

I just hope he knows what the hell he is doing.
Well he didn’t in Atlanta but he was the head coach. I hope it is different here now being the DC or Dak and company are going to put up 50 every game in order for us to have a chance and Quinn and lots of these draftees that he wanted will know what the NFL really means- Not For Long if you make the wrong decisions.

Bugler had a UDFA grade on him
That's why nobody has the same board. It's clear cause every year there's guys in mock drafts that people say won't be available in that round and come draft they are available later. Same thing with guys going up the board as well.

5 picks in the first 3 rounds. How many starters do you typically ask for in 3 rounds.....3 at most. I think Dallas got that with Parsons, Joseph and Osa day 1. The rest are rotational guys this year

If they can be rotational guys that great
I do like the dline guys though our numbers on dline may mean someone must go
I expect and think it’s time to move on from Armstrong
I just don’t get Wright

We are drafting for Quinn's defense, but will he even be here long enough for us to see this into fruition? just have a feeling if this defense looks even average, some team is going to scoop him to be head coach and another coach will have a defense tailored to Quinn and flounder

Wright fits Quinn system perfectly. He was a reach to most people but absolutely is a Quinn pick.

Maybe they want to trade up next round and wouldn't be able to get him later, who knows. Let's see him play, could be a gem

It's gonna be funny when some NFL team looking for a retread with a decent resume ends up hiring Quinn away next year. And he ends up taking Joe Whitt and the rest of his defensive staff

So how long until he gets fired and we have the wrong guys for the scheme of the new guy coming in?

So Quinn likes nobodies. Yah, maybe they drafted 4 GEMS today.

1. The cowboys were one of the worst defenses in the league last year
2. This is Quinns first year
3. Because of point 1. and 2. the cowboys will not be the top rated defense in the league
4. Quinn most likely sold a multi year plan in turning the defense around, and had the scouts and Mcclay find what he was looking for, and signed off on the picks
5. Depth isneeded on the defense, and there will be competition for depth.
6. 2 players have a very high chance to make major contributions and maybe starters on the defense, along with the other picks.

They clearly have guys on the roster they want to get off (Armstrong, Lewis/Robinson) and now they have a few answers for them.

We all want stars and potential starters at every pick but I think when they did the deep dive, the FO and coaches were alarmed at just how bad the second unit is. Nearly every position has been addressed

LE - Golston
1T - Urban (makes Woods a backup)
3T - Osa May push Hill off
RE - Basham
LB - Parsons and Neal could be the nickel LBs and take Jaylon/LVE off
CB - Joseph for Awuzie and Wright for Lewis/Robinson?
Safety - Straight Kazee for woods so backup still bad there which is concerning given Achilles.

It’s as good as any other strategy for picking players in the 3rd round. Might as well draft for fit and hope for the best.
Might as well close your eyes and throw darts at a board. I mean everything from the 3rd round on is such a crapshoot according to you so why not? Not sure why they waste all the resources on scouting.

With what they got in FA, the draft so far, and will get in the remaining draft, it should be very competition to make the roster. If Hill comes back fully healthy, I think he will continue to improve. He is running out of time.

Do people not remember Gus Bradley built Seattle's defense and was there to draft KJ Wright, Wagner, Sherman, Chancellor, Thomas, Maxwell, B Irvin in consecutive drafts 2010-12. Quinn was DLine coach until 2011, left for Florida ad came back to Seattle in 2013 and took over as DC.

2013 was a special year in Seatlle, But that more akin to lauding Barry Switzer for being 24-8 in the first 2 seasons vs credit to Jimmy Johnson's

Maybe it works. Sure didnt in ATL

The reactive side of me hates this draft. But Quinn played a hands-on role in constructing one of the most dominant defenses in the last couple decades.

I’m just hoping he knows what he’s doing with all these seemingly reach picks!
It was dominant when he took over

We need to do what Steelers, ravens do
Have a team identity on defense
No matter the coach, DC or players it stays the same
And they are competitive every year
You can change the scheme every few years where you need a different type of player
