Have to laugh at those that think he will magically become a stud in the pass rush.

I think he should get a few more sacks a year. With the secondary covering longer a LOT of our players should be getting a few more sacks a year.

Uhh... if he gets "a few more sacks" then he will be a STUD.

Seriously, do you guys even watch the rest of the NFL? Do you have any idea what other teams and other players do on a week to week basis? I get the sense that you guys think it is standard for players to get 10+ sacks. Like it is no big deal. Get some perspective! If Spencer gets a few more sacks and is in the 9-10 range, then he is a STUD.

"a LOT of our players should be getting a few more sacks"? Really? If a lot of our players get a few more sacks because of our secondary, we will lead the league in pass rush. We were only 8 away from being #1 last year.

Mash, the best part of the "Giants set the blueprint.....you can have scrubs in your secondary but as long as you have a pass rushing front 4.....you will win" crowd is they neglect to research or admit just how much the Giants invest in their secondary. Let's see....Corey Webster was a 2nd round pick in 2005, Aaron Ross (who left in free agency this offseason) was a 1st round pick in 2007, Terrell Thomas was a 2nd round pick the following year of 2008, Kenny Phillips (safety) drafted in the 1st round of 2008, Antrel Rolle drafted in the 1st round by Arizona in 2005 signed a 5yr $37mil contract in 2010 with the Giants to play FS, and finally Prince Amukamara drafted in the 1st round of 2011.

That is called a HEAVY investment in the secondary my friends. This seems to get overlooked so often. The Giants secondary does not consist of as many scrubs as we are led to believe....they aren't all Pro Bowlers but they are not scrubs.

CB was a need and getting the #1 consensus defensive player in this draft is not a bad thing for a team that needs defensive help. Today and tomorrow hopefully Dallas addresses Center, DE, WR, TE, etc. Until then.....how can you be mad at the Claiborne pick?

I totally agree brother.....its amazing how some can bash the trade yesterday

That's just it, they're not using a crutch, they're getting it done on their own.

So Tuck and JPP are the gold standard model for the Cowboys should because of their elite pass rushing that can get it done on their own?

Ok, let's see....

2011 Season Sack Totals

JPP = 16.5 Ware = 19.5 [Cowboys +3]
Tuck = 5.0 Spencer = 6.0 [Cowboys +1]

Maybe the problem is that our guys are getting more sacks than those guys. We should cut back in order to follow their amazing blueprint.

Almost Anthony will still be Almost Anthony till he figures out that it is OK to add an inside pass rush move. The rest of the league has the outside move figured out.;)

And let the tight end/fullback slip into the flat and gain the first down?

...What, Brookens and Bradie are still here? There isn't safety help somewhere?

But if the 'blocker' is slipping out, then the 'rusher' should be getting there sooner.

Let outside pressure start hitting that quarterback, and that slippery blocker will start to stay home.

Let Spencer get in the neighborhood of ten sacks, and offensive coordinators will start demanding protection of their quarterbacks.

I hardly look for 'salsa' from New York City...

And is consistent pressuring the QB.

With D Ware opposite of him and the position he plays he shouldn't be as much of a disappearing act as he is.

These guys will defend him in April but during the season the same peole defending him won't make a peep.

People complain about Ware's disappearing act too, that and his 19.5 "empty sacks"

Spencer would get even better if Dallas can still grab a DE or Safety tonight.

Derek Wolfe, DE Cincinnati would do the trick.

People probably get frustrated with him because we aren't getting a pass rush and they wonder why our 1 man pass rush isn't getting to the QB.

Awww, jeez. Not this stupid crap again.

This is a complete and total myth. Absolute BS. Message-board created garbage.

Spencer is the opposite of what you describe. After pass rushing, he frequently turns around and chases back up field, and this led to a couple turnovers last year.

Oh, and the great improvement for Spencer--Baby-arm Ingram--fell to 18 and will have a less productive season than Spencer.

Spencer is a good player. An elite run defender and an above average pass rusher (yes, that is a matter demonstrable fact).

It was plainly obvious that the problem with our defense last year was not the pressure but the inability to play press and man coverage that allowed WRs to be open too quickly.

Thanks for fighting the good fight against crazy here. It gets so tedious trying to push back on some of this stuff when it crops up in every Spencer-thread.

The Cowboys wanted Aldon Smith just last year.

I'd cool off on defending a guy that the Cowboys would most likely love to upgrade from.

Lack of any push up the middle means it's all out nothing from your edges guys. if we could push the pocket a little bit we'd get far more consistent pressure. Spencer ain't the only player not consistently pressuring the QB or people wouldn't be throwing terms like "empty sacks" around when talking about Ware

Spencer is your OLB of the present and future folks....deal with it. I've already accepted it, he's gonna be here for awhile. Wonder if they will make him a defensive captain

Let's just for fun say Spencer ends up with 4-5 more sacks this year due to better coverage

Do we give him credit for that or is it all of a sudden a team game again so we don't need to give him any credit?

In a team sport, you still get paid for what you end up with...

seriously do YOU watch the rest of the NFL.

Spencer got 3 sacks in his first 3 games.

Then took 13 more to get the next 3.

Think about that for a moment; that is not a stud; and frankly even three more sacks would not make him a stud.
