don't know if anyone picked up on the telecast yesterday but when Romo was calling signals I heard 'Omaha' right before the snap a few times...and watching Manning vs Cards last night I heard the same thing a few times!
....is that a snap count or audible etc.....? anyone...?

Just from personal experience, on our team, Omaha or Oklahoma was an "Opposite" call. There would be a word that the QB would say that would let us know that he was changing was the play. Then after that word, he would either call one of our audible plays, or he would say a word beginning with 'O' like Omaha or Oklahoma that let us know we were running the exact same play, just to the other side. If the QB didn't say the audible alert first, then Omaha and Oklahoma were just nonsense words.

That was an awesome pickup by Collinsworth. That's why he's the best.

The Falcons were going with a lot of silent counts yesterday and I would bet that they don't give Ryan the option to audible a lot of the time considering he is only in his second year.

I agree that is what I have known to check out of a play into another play. However guys like Peyton Manning has said sometimes it means nothing it just a means to put doubt into the defense of what may be coming.

Omaha is frequently used my many teams as a way of telling the Center and O-Line that the next "Hut" I give is live.

It is used mainly by teams who do a lot of "check with me's" or play changes at the line.

If you go back and watch games, listen for "Omaha" or "Mayday" and then check the playclock. It will most likely be about to run out.

"Mayday" is a call that is given if there is not enough time left to Motion or Shift and the offense needs to snap the ball. Not used as often now, but still valid.

Are you talking about when Romo's in the huddle calling plays? I think it's that wire camera that get's awfully low. There were some instances yesterday where you could hear the exact play Romo was calling. I definitely heard him call, "Scat right, Z" followed by the rest of the play at one point yesterday. It makes you wonder sometimes...

What was Colinsworth's pickup on that? I tuned back in when he was talking about whoever-it-was on the AZ defense 'picking up on it, too', but I didn't hear what 'it' was to begin with.

He noticed that in contrast to the beginning of the game, the Cards were getting a great jump on the snap (whereas before they were slow getting off, and they were jumping offsides alot) and he determined that when Eli said "Omaha" that meant the next snap count was live. Anything before Omaha was just nonsense snap counts. Sure enough, they focused on the audio for the snap count, and Berry was getting off like mad on the calls after Omaha.

The crowd was louder when the Falcons had the ball than when the Cowboys were on offense. They way it should be for a home game.

This is the correct explanation for those who are still asking. It means the next hut is the one to hike the ball. It's a way of keeping down false starts after all the reads by the QB and OL. You can easily have one guy forget the snap count after all the confusion.

I don't particularly like it because it lets the defense know when to go but they're going off the ball anyway so its not a big deal.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks.

The offense can still go on two huts after the Omaha call. The Omaha call just means that everything after is live, but it can be either on one or two after it.

TBH it could mean anything. Just because it means one thing for the Giants or most teams doesn't mean it means the same for every team.

if you noticed manning on one play said omaha to draw the defenders off side.

All this kill kill and always running afterwards are just sitting up defenses to make mistakes when we change it up on them.

I keep waiting for the day that camera comes into play somehow and knocks down a pass or punt.

Yeah Super punk is right it usually means we will call a running play based on the look Tony gets. Unfortunately it usually that dam draw play...
