Cant a blitz simply mean -rushing the passer with someone besides a "down" d-linemen- or am I over simplifying things?

The problem is that a lot of people thought the were seeing it on Sunday when they really weren't. Many times people automatically think blitz when they see pressure on the QB. People thought we were blitzing like crazy on Sunday but we only blitzed 6 times in the first half.

The only thing we did different on sunday was give peyton different looks, and fake blitzers. that's all. The execution was just better.

a blocking TE's main responsibility is to help block. So Ware's main responsibilty is to rush him(rushing the passer).

But he wouldn't be vacating his nomal responsibility in order to pressure. because his normal responsibilty is rush the TE.

Are you in college? Some colleges offer a course called "Theory of Football." I'm not sure how helpful this class is, but it sounds like it may be helpful to you.

Yes, we did do that a lot. I'm sure that "faked" a lot of viewers out as well. I would really like to see that more often. You know...actually attempted to "disguise" the blitz.

theogt's definition of a blitz is not 100%, accurate (though not far off) but he is correct that you don't have to send "more then the offense can block" for it to be a blitz.


ex: 4 DL + 1 LB is a blitz.


A blitz is anytime someone other then a DL rushes the QB, with the exception of the 3-4 where it's common for an OLB to rush the QB. If two LBs rush the QB out of a 3-4, it's a blitz.


By the way, anyone remember the last time we blitzed an ILB?

For instance, he would wear a number in the 80s or 40s instead of 50-69.

Sending more then the offense can block IS a blitz, but it's not necessary for it to be a blitz.

Can you think of a situation (other than a zone blitz situation) where a 4-man rush is a blitz?

The "corner blitz" situation earlier is probably the closest situation in which a 4-man rush can be considered a blitz, but like I said, that is basically a zone blitz.
