So How Fat is Montrae Holland?

Numerous sources are reporting that Kyle Kosier re-sprained his foot yesterday and may be shut down for the rest of the season. That's extremely disappointing but not surprising. Re-view your game tape if you have it and you'll see Kosier was being bull rushed by 'Niners DTs in the first quarter. This isn't the same guy who was helping Andre Gurode blow open holes in Washington last week.

Wade Phillips said in today's presser that Cory Proctor would return to the LG slot. Which raises the question, how fat is Montrae Holland? Dallas got him in the last week of the pre-season to be an insurance policy for just this type of injury.

Holland was a 16-game starter for Denver last year but ate himself out of a job over the offseason. To say Holland was pear-shaped when he arrived in Dallas would distort the phrase. Holland was a double-wide pear, if that makes sense. He was immediately teamed with the training staff to regain his condition.

That was in August. We're 13 weeks down the road and Holland still isn't fit enough to play?
Does Calvin Hill counsel compulsive eaters too? Because the time line makes no sense. This would be funny if it were not so sad -- and important. Proctor is barely backup level. The Cowboys running game probably dropped two notches when Kosier went out. Proctor has no ballast and can't anchor against power rushers. He also can't generate any push on running plays.
Kosier's loss puts a lot more stress on the passing game to carry the

Bring LA out of retirement for the rest of the year.

Even those who can't stand him any more have to admit he is better than Proctor.

I loved Larry Allen. But, no. The guy wouldn't be in any condition to play anytime soon and so it really wouldn't do us much good. We don't need to fat butts sitting around here trying to get in shape to play.

wow..maybe that is a bad idea

Wow ... why?

Is it because he is old? Even at the drop dead age of 37, he is still a better run blocker than all but ONE of all the guards on the roster, maybe the entire OL, right NOW.

Is it because he is out of shape? He can't be any more out of shape than Holland or any less useful than Holland, Berger, Free or McQuistan.

Is it because he does not know the scheme, like Holland? Sorry, LA is very familiar with Houck's scheme, he grew up in it. LA also played in the same blocking scheme with the Niners.

Pass blocking MIGHT be a problem, MIGHT. It is not like there is not ALREADY a problem protecting the passer now, as well as the notable problem run blocking that has plagued the team almost all season.

It really does not hurt at all to bring LA in for a look, especially with the long week after the Seahawks game.

I'm not sure if I want to laugh or cry.

Pathetic.

Being fat isn't an impediment to success in this league. Just ask Nate and Derek Kennard. Nor did LA have a washboard stomach.

If the issue is truly conditioning, he should have been cut about 8 weeks ago so we could bring in another OL who could actually play if needed.

So is it official that Holland isn't playing because he's too out-of-shape?

I've heard theories that he isn't playing because he would hit escalators in his contract.

I've heard that he isn't playing because Gurode needs help with the line calls, and Procter is better at that.

I've heard he isn't playing because he can't pull very well, and Dallas wants that from that position.

I've heard he isn't playing because he can't learn the playbook.

Why doesn't someone get the actual answer? The guy was a good player for Denver last year, and I don't hardly see why he couldn't be helping this team.

Yeah, but they spent a 5th on him--just more incentive to be stubborn. We have seen some very strange personnel decisions this year to say the least.....

But it is a sunk cost - usually better to cut your losses if the player is useless.

If he is so out of shape despite a full TC, preseason and 3 months of play that he can't play - he is useless.
