Raiders fans on Jihad Ward

Well let’s face it Jihad can’t be anything special if the Raiders were willing to trade him for Ryan Switzer.

On one of the shows, either ESPN or NFLN, when asked, one of the analyst said...basically nothing for nothing....
But I don’t think he meant it in a derogatory way. More like an even trade for 2 players that have done nothing, but may help each team they are going to, jist a wait and see type deal.

There was a quote that said they might have pulled the plug too soon and blamed the previous coaching staff for and overall mess on defense.

I don't think the Cowboys are expected much but obviously had already decided they didn't want to keep Switzer.

Some players just need to go to another team with a fresh start. Morris Claiborne needed to go to another team where there was no monkey on his back.
That's not true Jerry said so. Switzer wasn't in the plans to be traded or cut but after we traded for Austin Oakland called and said we got Jihad and told them they wanted Switzer in return.

And people forget that Marinelli produced good seasons from Terrell McClain and George Selvie, who weren't on an NFL roster when Dallas brought them in. Another example was Jeremy Mincey, who was a bargain basement FA that hadn't produced in years.

If Jihad Ward produces like the three guys I just listed, the trade is a win for us. Switzer was on the outside looking in after this draft.

If he doesn’t work out, the cost paid is a wash. Ryan Switzer had no future here and was the “designated Bisaccia pick” from that draft. With Bisaccia in Oakland, it made sense.

Jihad Ward has literally nothing but upside. If he doesn’t work out, it doesn’t matter. If he booms literally at all he will be an improvement over Switzer.

It’s almost like the “WAR” stat in baseball.

yes...we certainly will..by the way...what do you think of our current receiving corps...Hurns..Gallop...TWill...Beasely...maybe count Tavon Austin..

Deonte..( speedster forgot last name? )...Brown..and cedric Wilson and one other UFA?...personally...i think Dez was stunting development of Dak
so many forced throws and such...Dez in Dak's ear all the time?...ok we no longer have a true #1 but some good #2's & #3's who can run good routes and if this sanjay passing guru can develop a good scheme i think we are good enough to keep other teams from loading the box on every play?...what is your first thought on this?
After watching some of that Amazon show... Dez was walking himself out the door. He just didn't realize it.
Honestly, I'm hopeful about Dak being able to spread the ball around with a bunch of route running hand catchers and it makes the offense less predictable, while not making it necessarily more complicated.

Remember: 2016 was a lot about the Dallas offense being something that DC's couldn't figure out because it wasn't what they've seen year after year.
Maybe the same might happen this coming season.

I'm looking forward to what they're going to do, but... Dak has to deliver. And it will be difficult with all new targets and getting timing down, with newer plays and gameplan adjustments from the last 2 years, but we'll just have to see and watch for progression, instead of watching one game and proclaiming absolutes, as we are wont to do.

Neither player has done anything which makes it a good trade. Both are still very early into their careers. It was about addressing a need with a young player who might develop into a good player.

Oh I like the trade. And agree.

Fans are stupid, ignorant of the whole picture and impatient. I include us in that statement also.
Especially myself, except for the patient part...

Maybe it's the fact the guy has done nothing and is a bust.

I’ve never watched him play but defensive lineman usually take a few years. It’s not an easy position to transition to in the NFL.

Our own David Irving and Demarcus Lawrence were ok at best for a few years. Now look at them.

It’s worth a shot. Switzer didn’t have a spot here so it’s worth the risk.
Irving & Lawrence both showed flashes as rookies. From all accounts Ward has shown absolutely nothing, so maybe just maybe the Raiders outsmarted the Cowboys.

That was on the NFLN and they were talking about the Tavon trade.

Curious to hear your take-

Why do you think we so abruptly got rid of Switzer?

What do you think of Jihad?

Charlie Casserly said that about the Tavon Austin for the 6th round pick trade.

We'll see. He "appeared" in only 3 games last season & was a healthy scratch for most of it. Had some kind of foot injury around early December, then tweeted out "Thank y'all for the opportunity".

At least we've had a chance to coach him for the Senior Bowl(?), so ought to be familiar to the staff. Besides he speaks proper American.
