Rams get #1 overall

We might be able to sneak back into the first easier with 33.

Maybe, maybe not. 33 and a 3rd might not be as enticing as say giving a team two top half of the 2nd round picks. Plus we still have our 2nd rounder at 35.

So, I suspect having the 35th, 43rd and 45th picks gives you a ton more flexibility in moving up and still keeping a few premium picks than say having 33, 35 and then only 3rd rounders.

they are moving from #15 to #1,and they gave a #1, two 2nds, and two 3rds but they get back a 4th and a 6th.

now lets look at the Commander Rams trade from a few years ago, the Commanders moved from #6 to #2....not #1 overall, and had to give 3 #1's and 2nd.

Run the numbers and you'll see.
Both trades were within 10% of value.
the Rams slightly underpaid (10%)...but that's splitting hairs.

That 3rd #1 that the Skins gave up is worth about a 3rd rounder in the current market. May sound crazy, but that's how they do it.
In other words, those two 2016 second rounders that Tenn got are worth two 2017 1st rounders in present value.

If the choices are 15, 33 and 64 or 15, 43 and 45, I am taking the latter, I think.

i haven't studied the middle of the draft order....to see who we could realistically get at 15. in the above scenario i would go with 15, 33 and 64

Ironically...it was the Rams that reaped the windfall of picks from the RGIII trade. Now they're on the other end of things.

The Rams have a good D & arguably the best young RB in the league...but prices are certainly steep to step up.

I'd rather have three 2nd round picks in the top half of that round than just two. Easier to move back into the first round, even maybe back into the low 20s or teens, and still have a 2nd rounder left to make another Top 50 selection.

There are a lot of supposedly knowledgeable personnel people that think Paxton Lynch is the top quarterback in this draft.

So there will be teams wanting to trade up to get him early.

College is producing such crap at the quarterback position that it's even harder to find them. So teams are even more desperate than ever to trade up and take chances on guys with even more questions to their game.

Weird.

Value wise 15, 43, 45 is worth about 75 more points but it puts the trade in DAL's favor too much 1970-1800

But how much better is the OL with Tunsil than without him? I suspect probably not that much more dominant.

So as I said, it's the law of diminishing returns. To me, using the #4 pick on the OL for a moderate, if that, improvement on the OL is a waste when you could use that pick to significantly upgrade another position.

Like let's say Tunsil turns out to be a great OL. But his impact makes the OL a 9 on a 10 point scale as opposed to an 8 without him. But then let's say Ramsey turns out to be a top flight S.

Who has the bigger impact long term for the team? Ramsey.

Not I am not advocating Ramsey. Just saying I think the effect Tunsil has on this OL is not as great as one would hope from a 4th round pick.

I totally agree with your viewpoint.

But we know that Free is in decline, Leary has a degenerative knee condition, and Green is coming off surgery.
If the inside info on these 3 is worse that we know, Tunsil might still be a blue chip pick for the 'Boys.

Then Leary could be packaged in a draft day trade, or dealt later.

btw...wouldn't it be pick 32 instead of 33? NE doesnt have a 1st this year.

Yeah you are right.

EDIT: Whoops, forgot that Cleveland and Tennessee flop positions each round, so Cleveland would have the 32nd pick, not Tennessee.

No CLE has 32. But they may petition the NFL for 1st round rights and money.

Maybe DAL could trade with Goodell for NE's spot in the 1st.

noone is talking about how this changes the draft for the Browns....before they were almost guaranteed their choice of Wentz and Goff, and lets say they really wanted Wentz and the Rams take him....they could choose to go in a different direction...which could leave Goff to us.

So Rams did what the Commanders did for them a few years ago?

Good luck not making the playoffs for the what, tenth year in a row?

The Rams fleeced the Titans.

I disagree

There are two ways to look at this. One, a franchise QB is worth more than what the Rams gave up. And you are correct if that's your point of view. However, the Titans weren't going to take a QB. They have Mariotta, who some scouts believe was a better prospect than Wentz/Goff and they have a year of development with him. Which brings me to the second way of looking at it, which is, is losing out on Tunsil (and giving up a #4+#6) worth the #15, #43, #45 #76 as well as #1 & #3 next year and I'd say yea. Tunsil is a better OT prospect than the top one in some years, but he is not the same level of prospect that Tyron Smith or Trent Williams were in 2010 and 2011. And if the Rams weren't in a bidding war with another team, than that bounty is actually pretty good.
