Ramsey, what am I missing?

Why can't we invest 2 first rounders in safeties? Safety position is what makes Seattle go, not Richard Sherman. Take away one of the safeties they look weak. I'm not saying Sherman is replaceable but it's harder to replace Kam and earl. Byron and jalen shrink the field.

Seattle looked bad until Kam came back. Kam played a hybrid role at VT. Cover LB Safety guy they call the rover. He was recruited as a QB, but played CB as a true freshman.

Myles Jack is a good comparison to Kam.

...I don't see it. Byron Jones is plenty physical, hence shutting down Gronk.

I bet Ramsey has 15-20 pounds on Jones. Ok so the combine weights show Ramsey has 10 pounds on him

I gave up on us using Myles as a Kam chancellor. But im hoping were snart enough to put ramsey at safety. He let some no name miami wr work him at corner with a bad qb. Cmon

I know what you are saying but it never stopped Ed Reed or Polumalu (sp). :)

I didn't study them in college. Was well before my time of doing that so can't really compare. In the NFL, particularly if he plays safety, they won't be able to completely game plan away from a player. Unless of course you have an awful secondary around one good one. He will have opportunities to make plays in the NFL.

Interceptions in the college game are not as big of a telling factor. Teams run the ball far more often and if you're a great corner in college there's no reason to throw it your way when the other DB's are likely to be not nearly as good. INT's in college is something I hardly care about. Nice if a player has them, but if they don't it's not a big deal.

Ramsey makes big impacts on games whether or not he gets turnovers.

Just watch some FSU games and you'll see quickly why he is a top 5 pick.

He has superstar potential imo at corner or safety.

I've watched almost all of his tape from the past two seasons and I don't see a guy I would take at #4. I agree with you that he can effect the game in other ways than just creating turnovers, but so do quite a few other safety prospects who could be had much later. Ramsey isn't the best safety prospect or the best corner prospect. I would love to see him at SS for the Cowboys in a shallow zone role, but not with the #4 pick.

I agree that his being rated so highly is indicative of the weakness of this draft. Elite athletes without a position or production shouldn't/wouldn't be top-5 picks most years. That said, this isn't most years and you have to work with the draft that you've been dealt, so I wouldn't be shocked to see the Cowboys take him.

I think it might be the other way around, YR. Colleges, on average, throw it more....maybe way more.

But they don't throw it down field as often.

I disagree this draft is stacked with Defensive lineman that are superior and elite in talent(we are in deficit of up the middle pressure IMO). QB class is one of the subpar parts of draft 2016 and that hurts us the most, as our future without Romo is well within sight.

In the 2nd and 3rd tier yes, the defensive line is loaded. First tier not so much with only Bosa as a top 10 worthy pick. Thats what im talking about as far as how indictive Ramsey draft stock is as far as talent in the draft. It shows this is a very weak draft at the top

He allowed one fluke play when Ramsey and the Safety both went for the ball and took each other out. Also, Kaaya is not a bad QB, actually a darn good one in college that will be drafted in the next 1-2 years. How high depends on his development under Richt.

Everywhere except where Ramsey was. Teams completely game planned away from Ramsey and routinely ran him away from where they wanted the ball. It's hard to make plays on the ball when it's always thrown to someone 20 yards away.

Here's the problem with that theory: Ramsey led the Noles in each of the last two seasons in passes defended. How is that possible if the opposition was so determined to avoid him? The good news is that JR seems to have a nose for the ball, the bad news is the guy almost never came away with it.

He got beat 2 more times in that game. Didn't look too hot vs NC state either. If I'm taking you top 10 as a corner I'm expecting ball skills and hip turn/recovery. I don't think he has it. Hargreaves does, just not on a Patrick Peterson level. I said your boy will be a Hof safety so it's not like I'm dissing.

If it's so easy to avoid defensive playmakers at the college level, how do you explain the fact that there were 70+ FBS players with 4 or more ints in each of the last 8 seasons? Surely you don't think that's just a matter of luck? I'm not saying Ramsey is a bad player, I just don't think he's the kind of game changer teams should be looking for at the top of the draft. Imo he shouldn't be taken before the middle of rd 1.

I can appreciate why a Houston fan would not be impressed, he played the worst game of his career, which Houston deserves credit for.

3 interceptions...he probably would have had 10 if he played in the pass-happy Big 12 or Pac 12!

Sturm gave Ramsey a fairly enthusiastic endorsement in a draft preview piece a couple weeks back:
http://sportsday.***BANNED-URL***/d...le-series-meet-jalen-ramsey-best-player-draft

Buried in the generally effusive praise was this quote:

"What I did not like: Not much. He will guess on plays a bit and watch the QB, and that caused him to lose his man a time or two. I don't like this, but it is some of the collateral damage of an instinctive DB who is looking to make plays. You want disciplined technique, but also to allow a playmaker to try to make plays. It is a slippery slope. But, when he does make a mistake and gets beat, his responses are legendary where he then bounces back and takes the game over. He competes so hard and I think he is motivated by the occasional mistake. He also drops interceptions 3-4 times in the 8 games I watched over 2 seasons. "

The guy has as many drops in those 8 games as he has total picks in 42? Not good.

Reed and Polamalu got so many ints even while being avoided by being allowed to roam without specific coverage responsibility. Ramsey had a few bounce off his hands, but he is still an elite cover safety, just not in the single high role that people think of when discussing Ed Reed or Earl Thomas. He has elite burst and length to deflect passes that no defender would be expected to be in position for. Would you take a bigger, taller, faster Tyrann Mathieu with no character issues at 4? That's what Ramsey is.

He's a projection at corner due to his hips and aggressiveness, but he's nearly a sure thing at slot safety. Why would you draft him and waste him by not blitzing him from the slot ten times a game? He'll register more passes defended than most corners just with the balls he bats down at the line.
