1.) Regardless of how the final month of the season plays out, Jason Garrett's job is safe. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones has said on multiple occasions that he's been impressed with how the team continues to battle despite the disappointing record. A lot of thatcredit goes to the head coach.
"I think Jason is a tremendous coach," Jones said Friday afternoon on 105.3 The Fan's Ben and Skin show [KRLD-FM]. "I think he's done a great job with this football team. ... If you watch Jason's football teams, they really play hard for him. We've had some unfortunate breaks in terms of injuries and other things, but Jason, in our mind, is a great football coach and he's going to remain the coach of the Cowboys for many years to come."
2.) Some have suggested that the Cowboys should tank the rest of the way, putting themselves in position for a top five draft pick. Jerry Jones is against that idea. While explaining his thought process Friday morning, the Cowboys owner and general manager used Darren McFadden's late TD run against Washington Mondaynight as an example.
"I will tell you that the day this season is over that I'm going to lust for the highest draft pick that I could have," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan's G-Bag Nation show [KRLD-FM]. "And I'm going to say, 'Well, crap, why did we make that catch?' But I don't say that today and I don't say that Sunday and I won't say it the next week either.
"I'm kind of like McFadden, who knew for sure we were trying to buy time on the clock, then when you get a chance to hit that end zone, get there and make that play. And that's real hard to take out of the mentality of what we're doing, so there's no way that I would line up in a football game - I've never done it, we've never done it in the 26 years that I've been with the Cowboys. We'll try everything that we've got to win that ballgame. They just mean too much."
