Can all 4 players be bad in a game and still have one that was bad but just not as bad as the others?

Definitely. And if you take the time to go back and look at that game (as I have), you will see that while the entire defensive line was manhandled, the two that were abused the worst were Crawford and Gregory, in that order. If you or anyone else don't believe me, I encourage you to go and see for yourselves.

And anyone that thinks for a second that Crawford is in any way "acceptable" at RDE really needs to watch that game again. He was a total embarrassment out there.

I think, and I could be wrong, that they are saying Randy was the best DL player on the team........ even though they all were bad in that Rams game. I don't think the context was to say Randy was a top DL in the league.

I could be wrong but that's how I interpreted it.

No, you're right, that's what he's trying to say, but even that isn't true. Gregory had a nice finish to the season in the sack column as a part-time specialist. But saying he was "the best DL on the team" is still flat out wrong. "Best" is more than a few sacks over a few games. "Finished the regular season strong" would be more accurate.

I'm not disagreeing with you was just trying to clarify how we were understanding what was said. Personally anybody on defense that played in that Rams game should be embarrassed and none of them deserve best in anything until it's corrected in the playoffs next time.

On your comment about Crawford, I'm on record many times wanting him gone and use that money saved on someone else. Folks say he is a great leader or run stopper or whatever but I see a guy that just isn't getting it done, over paid and now aging with injuries. I'm all for letting Anae and Carter make this team over Crawford

No, nobody played well, and it's clear to me that the Rams definitely knew what was coming from Marinelli's defensive line. But the fact is that a quality left tackle like Whitworth owned Randy Gregory all day, the last time we saw him on a football field. That was the point.

He's just awful. Has the change of direction of a glacier, and no business playing on the outside. He's been a bad ft for this team since they transitioned from the 3-4 defense. The fact that the charade has gone on this long, and cost this much is an embarrassment to the franchise, arguably the last one left from the past regime, but still here.

Not even the biggest Cowboy excuse-maker can watch that game and tell me that they're comfortable with him at RDE.

Can't disagree with you on the Gregory vs Whitworth statement.

I think getting McCarthy is so great but underrated as well. He will make these players work to get playing time and he will keep the best players regardless of contract or seniority. Plenty of players on this team that has just got by because Garrett didn't hold them accountable and they will lose their job or be gone from the team under McCarthy.

Players like Hill, Crawford etc. better step it up if they want to stay on the team. You know guys like Witten, Rush and Heath would still be here if Garrett was coach

Yes. A coaching change is a huge motivating factor for players. No more 'sacred cows' or unquestioned starters. Guys will have to earn their stripes under an entirely new staff.

Crawford is the last one.

If Gregory gets reinstated before training camp... I could see us cutting Crawford in favor of Aldon Smith and Joe Jackson. With Aldon Smith on the team he can take that Crawford role of playing inside or out as needed. Then they could use Joe Jackson as Aldon Smith's backup.

Getting Gregory back doesn’t mean the line is fixed but it’s at least another piece.

We have no legitimate pressure player at DE outside of Lawrence.

However they want to address it, Crawford no longer has any place on this team. And most certainly not at the ridiculous cost in salary he currently occupies.

In an offseason of one smart move after another - from coaching changes, to free agency, to the draft - the fact that Crawford is still on the team at his current price is the only thing that still makes you scratch your head and wonder why.

Especially with his injury history. I don't want to see him get hurt in camp again then be stuck on our books for the season.

You mean just like last year?

When the Cowboys had every warning sign and every incentive to either cut his pay or cut him outright and chose to do nothing?

Yeah, I remember.

No, what's silly is trying to call Randy Gregory this team's "best defensive lineman". He's never been that, even the few times he has played.

And Rams left tackle Andrew Whitworth abused him all game long.

You're right of course, it wasn't ALL on him, but he wasn't part of any solution either, and far from any "best defensive lineman" like you're trying to claim.

Just stop it with that nonsense.

He was our best pass rusher over the last half of that season I believe. Even though he made a few plays against the run, he was never our top run defender on the line. When he was able to use his speed, he could crash down the line or chase down a back from behind, but tackles could also drive him off the ball, which is one reason he continued to split time at end instead of being a full-time starter.

If he gets reinstated, Gregory will likely be used primarily as a nickel pass rusher because that role plays to his strength, which is speed to get around the corner, bend and get to the quarterback. Sadly, we only really got to see him figure out how to do that on this level in the last half of 2018. I don't know how long it will take him to reestablish that.

It's nonsense because it's not close to being true.

Do you actually think I'm a Lawrence or HotBoyz fan? Are you truly this uninformed or is this another tantrum because you're being called out for talking nonsense on Gregory?

Tantrum? What are you talking about? I actually like you as a poster. One on the Pillars here but you can get hot and bothered too fast. My Lawrence comment was sarcastic. Relax.

OK.

Consider my comments that same sarcasm as well then.

Yeah you nailed it. Gregory has great ability. It’s his off the field stuff that has held him back. I really hope he can thrive now.

I hope he can too. This and any other team can use all of the quality pass rush they can get.
