look at all the cases of alzheimers that have come up in the last 20 years or so; almost all baby boomers. So think about that. The fact is that no one knows because there have been no big scientific studies.
My grandma, bless her adorable, gorgeous heart -- a 25 year personal assistant to Gene Autry, best friends with his first wife, passed from Alzheimer's. Never touched marijuana.

lol a ton of pro athletes smoke so when does this lazy lethargic stuff start to kick in?

I would guess that lazy lethargic people were lazy and lethargic before they ever smoked.
Preach, my brother.

Maybe, just maybe <gasp>, it's the person, not the medicine.

But let's blame weed and Gregory. Kill Gregory and fry those dang weed smokers. Never mind the decades and decades of previous weed smokers that played football. Before they tested the way they do now.

"Randy Gregory is the devil" -- said in Bobby Boucher's mom's voice (The Waterboy).

I'm so sick of the ignorance and narrow mindedness of this thread. Meet some of my battles and tell them to stop smoking weed. LOL.

My first attempt at reconciling Gmoney's and Erod's differing work experiences with the substance in question, is to attribute success in using marijuana and still being viable in the workplace to intelligence.

Catch17 has a different explanation. Persistence.

Fuzzy seems to be criticizing Erod for firing non-working users.

Its all quite simple. Intelligent, hard working people that normally would succeed will do so with or without marijuana.

People are let go all the time because they're not intelligent enough, or because they're intelligent but lazy. Their decision to use marijuana doesn't change their values, they're just naturally dumb or a slacker. The only reason anyone knows they use is because they didn't care about hiding it.

From my experience in both tech and the business end of petroleum, most intelligent people realize this fact, which is why the majority of smart people don't care. There's a helluva lot more problems to deal with than some grass.

There isn't, Fritsch. It's a lazy assumption because "weed makes you lose short-term memory".

Yeah, it makes you become a dirty, long haired lazy hippie too. I'd love to get that guy who said weed makes you soft and weak on the concrete crew I worked on for years. Pretty much everyone of us smoked, a lot, and if anyone thinks pouring and finishing concrete in 100 degree Texas heat is being weak and soft, give it a try.

Not sure if folks have thought about this but even if the league was to adopt more liberal marijuana policies, a guy like Gregory may still have an issue because he seems like the kind of person that is always using.

I'm the same way alcohol is legal but an employer would not welcome an employee showing up to work drunk, I foresee a similar issue with a guy like Randy showing up to meetings, practice and games stoned.

That's how I see this thread - responsible use. I know a zillion people in very demanding jobs who smoke occasionally but never at work. I would fire someone two if they couldn't do the job if they were high, but that is a small fraction of people out there.

Your analogy to alcohol is the right one, I've drunk alcohol my entire adult life but never gone to work drunk.
