The main knock on the field aside from him being small framed was talk pre-draft about his “get-off”. “He was slow getting out of his stance” according to his draft profile by Lance Zierlein on NFL.com. I went back and watched some tape to see if this were true and if so I wanted to find a reason/possible fix.

Marinelli teaches his guys to go off the ball. You can tell because they use a ball on a stick while they're down in their stance while hes screaming 'go' and the like at them at practice to reinforce the technique.

2 years ago Nebraska used a tackle read system. That means you don't go until the blocker takes his first step. It prevents you from getting pinned inside/outside and simplifies the gap assignments on run plays.

Gregory's short area explosion is fine when he goes off the ball.

You can tell fuzzy knows his x and o's ... great points sir. .. many times there on film you could see his job was to get his hands on the tackleif they tackle was trying to get to the second level to get to the linebackers.. note the scheme doesn't fit someone like Gregory s talent and athleticism .. however it frees up the linebackers to run freely and make plays

I love the post and the X's/O's...but I just can't get excited because I do not trust the player. Zero chance he plays 16 games straight (starting at week 5).

Looking at Gregory's tape coming out, I didn't see anything wrong with his 'get off' at all. The only question I had about him was with his size. I think the dude can 100% and be an impact player in this league. Which makes it such a bummer that he's on pace to smoke himself out of it completely.

I think he can be a good player but I don't expect much from him or most of the dl players this year.

This is basically his rookie season again.

I don't know enough to know for certain but there was speculation that when he got hurt, he got down on himself and that caused him to self medicate.

If that is the case then you shouldn't trust him because feces happening is a fact of life.

That he has a hole is a given. How he deals with it from here on out is the key. He can continue to self medicate and self destruct or he can learn to cope in other ways.

hopefully its merely internet BS but I wouldn't be shocked if it turned out to be true

I expect him to make some big time sacks late in the season ala DeMarcus Lawrence vs the Lions in 2014.

Yeah agreed, ideally he would be a ROLB in a 3-4.

I heard that rumor as well from a friend of mine inside Valley Ranch. I don't like doing this without having solid information but my friend its just about certain he failed another test and will suspended for 10 games

Lets all pray that the guy I heard this from was high and its not true

I was very pleased with what I saw on the field.

But I have said it before, and I will say it again. He let a lot of people down. Its one thing to make a mistake, its an entirely different thing to make it again, and again. And these are just the times he got caught; and he is new. he hasn't had a lot of time to make mistakes,,,,, and he made a big one, by , getting suspended while with the Cowboys. He is a professional now. Not a kid. Its big boy time.

Someone needs to reach him. I think he would be a beast on the field; a real asset and contributor. But, one more time and I would cut him.....I would be inclined to cut him now. but we are desperate....
