Twitter: Randy Gregory Update

All this assuming he doesn't get suspended again between now and week 7...

His only issue was smoking pot. Can't get suspended for that anymore, so getting suspended probably isn't likely, unless it's for PEDs or such, and there's no way to know if he's doing that...

I don't know about that. D-Law had 4.5 more sacks and 8 more QB hits than Gregory in 2018 (when Gregory last played), and D-Law was getting double teamed routinely. He also had 39 more tackles

DLaw was a starter, Gregory was not. Haven't been able to find stats for plays, but I suspect Lawrence was in on way more snaps....

Can he play linebacker or safety...just kidding. Glad to have him back. I hope he has got a coping strategy that allows him to function much better at football and most importantly life...

I'm excited because I think he's a great fit for the 3-4. He can cover better than DLaw or Griffin and is better than Crawford at getting to the QB.

Just how many defensive snaps have the Cowboys run as a 3-4 defense this season? Funny how they have 2 tackles and 2 DE's in about 98% of their snaps so when is this 3-4 defense in there? You like some think that because of one of Nolan's dumber ideas has been to have both DE's in a 2 point stance, some her think that turns the 4-3 defense into the 3-4 defense - IT'S NOT. Here's a big clue for you. In a 3-4 defense it means there are 3 down linemen and FOUR LB's and just when has the Cowboys had 4 LB's on the field on the same play?

I've seen the stats. He had 6 sacks and 25 tackles in 16 games in 2018. I wouldn't call that a beast.
Coming off a 2 year layoff? I would. We paid DLaw how much and he had 5 sacks last season.

Aldon Smith is proof you can be away from the game and still produce...

RG just needs to follow Smith's example...

I meant more of a stand up Edge. He's done it previously and has more bend then those guys. We don't run a true 30 front anyways but I see where your going.

Not everyone can do that. How many have Aldon's sheer rare talent ?

and Aldon already has vast more game experience and established techniques over Gregory.

I hope he does but Aldon was a guy producing double digit sacks and a complete player before getting suspended. Gregory has shown promise at times but never consistently great play. Does not mean he can't but he was still a question mark before he was suspended

If you have to qualify it by saying "for a guy coming off a 2 year layoff", that's not really saying he was a beast, it's just saying he did well for a guy with those circumstances. To say he played like a beast he would have to be looked at in the context of the NFL as a whole, not just in the context of a player who missed some time in previous years.

As for D-Law, that's a separate issue, and irrelevant to whether Gregory was a "beast" in 2018.

Yes because he was better and Gregory wasn't.

Lawrence is 25 lbs heavier, he's a full time starter because he can handle the run. Gregory was, and I suspect still is, a situational pass rusher. They're not the same type of player, so you really can't compare one to the other exactly. So to say one is better than the other isn't really doable...

Again I have to question you because when a player is said to have more bend it implies he is better suited for a 3 point stance. Also Marinelli was DC ALL four linemen were in a 3 point stance probably 98% of the time so I'm not sure where you get that Gregory did all this 2 point stance.

True, but Smith was actually one of the best pass rushers in the NFL early in his career. Because of Gregory's problems we have never really been able to find out what he can become. Hopefully he can pull it together so he can find out.

Another concern for me is that when Gregory came back the last time, he had a pretty good game then immediately got hurt, an oblique injury I recall. Now he's been off longer, can he get back into football shape in 3 weeks? Hopefully he can...
