I leave Montana off because I think he was a product of the system as invented by Walsh. Walsh turned good qb's great everywhere he went. Fouts, Anderson, Montana, Young and even some lesser qb's faired very well in his horizontal stretching, high completion system.
If you think that about Montana, then why is Brady on your list?? He too is a system quarterback. And Young established himself before becoming a 49er and Montana still played well in KC and took them to an AFC title game and they havent won a playoff game since he's been gone.

At 34 I will name the best I've seen play.

1. Favre

2. Elway

3. Marino

4. Brady

5. P. Manning

No way is Favre the number one, even on that list.

I was lucky enough to see Unitas at the end of his career, but have since seen all his playoff games= especially the OT Championship game against the Giants. The only top one I have only seen on Highlights is Graham. But since Vince Lombardi once said that Otto Graham was the greatest QB he had ever seen play (and that included Unitas) then I put him up there as well.
saw rogers and montana and elway their whole careers.
So I am pretty confident in my picks.

Cannot take anyone seriously that puts Moon that high; or Favre either.

Top 5 worst of all time

Ryan Leaf
Akili Smith
Neil O'Donnell
Byron Leftwich
Rick Mirer

You must not realize that Neil O'Donnell is #1 in lowest career INT%. He also had a higher career QB rating than Troy Aikman.

Don't base your opinion of his career on his debacle in the SB. Besides, we should all be grateful for that. :D

If you want some worst all-time QBs why not consider:

Steve Spurrier
Bobby Douglas
Heath Shuler
Gary Cuozzo
Mike Phipps
Mike Taliaferro
Mike Quinn
Marc Wilson
Gary Hogeboom
etc...

In no particular order because I can't rank QBs from different periods:

Unitas
Graham
Staubach
Elway
Montana

I really need a top twenty.

I think you will win the award for MOST WRONG! Congrats!

That would be why it's my list and not yours....didn't ask for your approval.

The goal of this thread was to get people's opinions on who THEY think are the top-5 all-time based on THEIR criteria. I liked your list because it showed a different set of values than some of the others, mine included. That was the point.

Young sucked when he was with the Bucs. Of course the Bucs sucked but it wasn't like he excelled there. Just sayin 'zall.

My criterion is which guy would I want to start one game I had to win. Also I am only picking from those I actually saw play significantly (after 1980)

1. Dan Marino. Quick release, great arm, an absolute killer with the ball in his hands. Never had a great running game our defense to help him.

2. Joe Montana. Joe Cool. Great accuracy and always played great in the big games.

3. John Elway. The prototype, great arm, great mobility, and an excellent leader.

4. Troy Aikman. Excellent arm and tremendous accuracy and also played his best games when it mattered the most.

5. Tom Brady. People seem a little down on him after the super bowl choke, but he is a tremendous player. Good arm and accuracy and sees the field as well as any QB ever IMO. Also played his best games on the big stage.

Slightly different twist on the original question and my answers. If I were a WR who would be the top 5 QBs I'd want to play for?

1. Brett Favre. It would be a gas.

2. Dan Marino. You know it would be a passing oriented offense.

3. Dan Fouts. Air Coryell? Nuff said.

4. Peyton Manning. Yet another offense where you know they are going to throw and he can get it to you.

5. John Elway. You'd never feel like you were going to lose a close game late.

If I were a TE, Troy Aikman, no doubt.

A bunch of y'all need to get a clue, any list with Moon, Favre, or Brady in the top 5 is a complete joke. Personally I don't think Aikman is top five either but I can understand why he is showing up here...but seriously...Moon, Favre and Brady, go back and watch old games.
