Any comic movie ranking list that has Man of Steel that high has major flaws...and this is coming from a big Supes fan.

I think it really depends on your mindset going in.

"I saw some good things in there" lol

But... It was missing things... Like....

"don't worry, I got you.... Yeah but who's got you"
"Oh god, eh hem... That's ZOD!"

Trivia for superman 2:

Ursa was bit by the snake, how is this possible?

Well, I am far from perfect. :) Admittedly, my ranking for Man Of Steel is above paid critic (55%) and general audience (approximately 70%-75%) consensus opinion as recorded by movie websites like MetaCritic, RottenTomatoes, and IMDB. My opinion of the movie's entertainment value runs more along with how the character is portrayed in the DC Comics titles (I.e. Action Comics, Superman, etc.) than the way he was conceptionalized in the late 70's on film.

Where would you rank the movie among the 58?

DallasEast, my mistake, I thought the list was from wikipedia itself. That's what I get for skimming the OP!

I admit that my vision of Superman was heavily influenced by Richard Donner and company, however I welcomed the idea of a less campy effort. I was thrilled with Snyder's teaser and trailers, but I was disappointed with the film itself. The opening Kryptonian scenes were way too long and involved for my tastes (again, it probably had something to do with the quick 10 minute Krypton look I remember by Donner).

I would rank it below Superman 1 and 2, but above 3 and 4 (and SR of course) Probably high 20s on your list.

Did it have something to do with their powers growing but not yet perfect?

Hmmmm... Could be?
It's funny... I have seen it argued but no one said that.

Being that Clark grows up here it could have been "growing" EXCEPT... IN SUPERMAN 1.... Baby Clark lifts car. So....lol

I don't thin that's it. Kudos though...

I think they muffed up

Lois witnesses Kal-El demonstrate several powers by the time he catches her in the escape pod plummeting from the Kryptonian ship. Perhaps she's no longer shocked by his powers at that stage to question him how he's able to fly?

The original Zod had a sarcastic wit. Maybe a genocidal unimaginably powerful despot in the latest film would not share the same sense of humor. Maybe he would. Who knows?

My take of the Ursa sense was that her invulnerability had manifested but that the snake's act of biting startled her. I do not believe the snake's fangs penetrated her skin. I guess Krypton didn't have snakes. :)

To each his own. I liked MOS a lot. Never cared for the dorky Clark Kent parts of the Reeves Superman movies. I prefer a darker, more realistic tone, which MOS had IMO. Very little cheese factor, which I loved.

9. Captain America: The first Avenger
10. The Punisher (2004)
Honorable Mention:

@CowboyGil and @BrAinPaiNt : Thanks for pointing out Conan as a Marvel Comics movie. I had completely forgotten his titles by Marvel. Wonder why the Wikipedia entry excluded him? I would slip Conan The Barbarian in the 20's range within my list and Conan The Destroyer in the high 30's/low 40's. Red Sonja would go in my 50's range.

And the 2011 Conan was barely better than Red Sonja. Blech! and maybe they excluded him because Conan was originally in novel form by Robert E. Howard. Good books.

Was thinking the same thing...that they did not count him because he was in books before comics. Although they had both comics and comic magazines with conan from Marvel so they did use him quite a bit and in some cases more than others.

Another example could be Dracula. Came in book form and other movies as well but marvel did have a Dracula Comic book for a time
