Ranking the QB's

What do we do with Slingin' Sammy and Johnny LuJack, Bobby Layne, Frankie Albert? What do we do with Otto and Johnny U, Frantic Fran, Bart Starr?

You read anything about the great QB's talking SI/ESPN/Sporting News etc you will se Otto Graham and Johnny Unitas mentioned. Some mention Staubach. Most mention John Elway and Fran Tarkenton. Oh yeah....Dan Marino and hell....Joe Montana, Some...Jim Kelly. Dan Fouts?

So how is this done?

The best pre 1980 QB I ever saw play was Johnny U, Otto came a little before my time (if possible, ha!) Unitas was great as was that whole offense. John Mackey, Lenny Moore, Ray Berry all HOFers. The worst important QB's were Bradshaw and Namath, both sucked and their numbers prove that out.

I can dig deep into this having all I need to get down into it and come up with a top 50 list but it will always be......different era back then. So just how do we compare Otto Graham to Big Ben, Staubach to Dak

As of right now just going to go with the best QB for each team

Cowboys....Troy Aikman
Eagles....Donovan McNabb
DC Dragons...Sonny Jurgenson
Giants...Eli Manning
Packers...Aaron Rodgers
Lions....Matthew Stafford
Bears....Sid Luckman
Vikes...Frantic Fran

Now how do we rank the top 50 all time, we use....what?
Roger was the best Cowboys QB
Troy was a distant second.

Philip Rivers was on a whole other level than Terry Bradshaw not close at all. Can't believe you said that.

You sure most people put Staubach ahead of Aikman?

You really have a thing about Philip Rivers. lol Find a ranking that has Philip Rivers ranked
ahead of Terry Bradshaw. Good luck! Roger Staubach was better than Troy Aikman. See if you can find a ranking that has Aikman ranked the head of Staubach.

Roger Staubach was special as a player and person in so many ways!

I like Troy, great qb
But Roger was special.
Hey we can agree to disagree.

Coming to the NFL like he did at 27 after his Navy days was unique. And he is a great QB, far better athlete than well ....everyone, but do think Aikman was the better pure passer in any era.

Here’s my homer list.

Cowboys…The Dodger is my all-time favorite NFL player. Troy..1B
Saints…Archie Who…Brees 1B
Chargers…Fouts..Rivers 1B
As much as I could NOT stand him…Bradshaw over Ben in Pitt.
Hard to make a list without Steve Young’s name on it so I give him honorable mention behind the 2nd best of all -time.
Roger Staubach # one
Love it!

Morat we bump heads occasionally
But we agree, Roger the greatest Cowboy ever!!!

Any pro QB with a 212/210 TD/INT ratio has no business in any debate, Bradshaw had horrendous numbers and it took him years to get going. What happened is he got lucky to be on a team with all that talent, that really is all there is to this, hell yes Rivers was a better QB not even close.

Aikman a far better passer than Staubach, had far more good seasons.

No, Brady is more of having great teams and the greatest coach in the modern era around him most of his career. Granted he is a great QB but I believe any QB on that list could have won with the teams and coach Brady had around him. Staubach was just an amazing QB. He may be a little high on the list but dont think he is out of the top ten. I liked him a lot more than Aikman.
Another discerning Cowboys fan!!!!

I would think the Buc's would be Williams and/or soon to be TB12

Good luck convincing anyone of that. You must have Tony Romo ranked as the greatest Cowboys QB in franchise history based on your criteria.

There is not a chance in hell that Aikman was the Cowboys best QB.

LOL...........Cam Newton? Vinney Testicle?

McNabb had a better team around him.. An unbiased eye test of both QB's renders a more talented Cunningham..

Have to go with Cunningham over McNabb too. Stronger arm, better scrambler. Take Eagles Cunningham the runner and merge with Vikings Cunningham the passer and there you go. Crazy career but never had the stability McNabb enjoyed either. Who would you rather have? Andy Reid, or freaking Buddy Ryan or Dennis Green?

Cunningham had some good teams. Those Philly teams had two of the best defensive players ever in Reggie White and Jerome Brown. I would rate McNabb ahead of Cunningham.

Don’t disagree but again, talking about stability, Jerome Brown died.

Don’t sell Jim Johnson’s defenses short either. Definitely kicked our Boys arses many times. Hated watching those games.
