Ranking the QB's

Dan Fouts was better than Philip Rivers.

Fouts had 254 TD and 242 INT, he had an inferior comp %, inferior passer rating and neither guy could run, Rivers more pro bowls also. AND...Fouts had the greatest gang of receiver ever in Winslow, Joiner, Jefferson then Chandler.

Trust me I like Fouts but Rivers numbers are far superiior.

McNabb had a better team around him.. An unbiased eye test of both QB's renders a more talented Cunningham..

Saw both play in college, at no time did I ever think Cunningham was a better QB than McNabb, yes.....more exciting athlete.

Dan Fouts was passing for almost 5000 yards before all the rule changes. The rule changes have perfected QB numbers. Fouts passed for over 4800 yards in 1981. He was the trigger man for one of the greatest passing offenses in NFL history Air Coryell. Ranking QBs based on their numbers from different eras is a big mistake. The NFL is a passing league now. If you just go by stats alone Matt Stafford would be greater than Joe Montana and many other QBs from decades ago.

i believe that if a GM had a choice of any QB in their prime to play for their team, Tom Brady would not be their first choice for many of them.

1-Aaron Rodgers
2-Joe Montana
3-Peyton Manning
4-Dan Marino
5-John Elway
6 Tom Brady
7-Drew Brees
8 Roger Staubach
9-Brett Favre
10-Otto Graham

Here’s my homer list.

Cowboys…The Dodger is my all-time favorite NFL player. Troy..1B
Saints…Archie Who…Brees 1B
Chargers…Fouts..Rivers 1B
As much as I could NOT stand him…Bradshaw over Ben in Pitt.
Hard to make a list without Steve Young’s name on it so I give him honorable mention behind the 2nd best of all -time.

The Bradshaw thing really is a.....hmmmmm???? The guy won all those SB but his career numbers are .....terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He did play on what some consider to be the best team ever those 70's Steelers.

Look at that D line

Mad Dog Dwight White
Ernie Holmes
Mean Joe Greene
LC Greenwood
.
That is crazy, behind that two Hall of fame LB's in Jack Ham and Jack Lambert
Behind that Donnie Shell and Mel Blount two more HOFers. They had a Hall of Fame center, a HOF running Back, two HOF WR, what QB couldn't have won?

I do get the Archie thing but his numbers.....ouch!!!!!!!!!!!

Brady's lack of mobility a total turn off so I agree?

Staubach more of a Cowboys thing, huh?

There are many who believe Johnny Unitas was better than all these names.

He was way before my time, but this is a common thought

It may not be easy, but it's not THAT hard

It’s very difficult finding a franchise QB just look around the league. Most QBs don’t last 3-5 years before they’re dumped. The jury is still out on the current draft class of QBs but the best one so far has been Mac Jones who was drafted in the teens. Trevor Lawrence certainly hasn’t looked like anything special. Zach Wilson who the Jets used the second overall pick on looks worse than Sam Darnold did his rookie year in NY. Justin Fields has shown flashes but he has a long way to go. Some of you think it’s as simple as just draft a QB and problem solved. lol

When did Sid Luckman play? 80 years ago? More? And they had squat since?

I know finding QB's isn't easy. That isn't my point. Even blind luck will get you a good QB more than once a century. Tony Romo and Dak Prescott are proof of this

Fouts did little his first 6 seasons then BOOM three igreat seasons with over 4000 yards, but a lot of INT's, then the rest of his career not great.

Yes those Chargers teams were fantastic with Kellen Winslow, Charlie Joiner both in the HOF that great John Jefferson and the great Wes Chandler to take his place, now add....Chuck Munchie.

But....Rivers had 13 4000 yard seasons, a better comp% a better passer rating, far more good seasons than Fouts had.

You’re comparing a QB who played in the 70s and 80s. Fouts had a 4800 yard passing season in 1981 which is more yards than Philip Rivers ever passed for in a season despite the rule changes. Check the completion percentages of QBs back in the 70s and 80s and compare them to the QBs today. The completion percentages are night and day better today because of the rules!

Here we have the Don Hutson thing, no player at any position was as dominate in his day as Hutson was in his. His numbers on a totally different level than everyone else back then.

Some have him right beside Jerry Rice on all time teams. And......he couldn't do that today.....nobody cares, so what.

What Unitas was doing in his day was incredible, and nobody before him ever did it better. Very real to argue Unitas among the very best ever,

No, Brady is more of having great teams and the greatest coach in the modern era around him most of his career. Granted he is a great QB but I believe any QB on that list could have won with the teams and coach Brady had around him. Staubach was just an amazing QB. He may be a little high on the list but dont think he is out of the top ten. I liked him a lot more than Aikman.

Look at Fouts attempts and completion %, he simply threw the hell out of the ball and who wouldn't with all those receivers. But....a lot of INT's a low comp% and passer rating.

Rivers had far more great seasons than Fouts had.

Have you actually looked at Brady's numbers? They are right there with anyones. And he has years and years of great years, there is no way around it he is a great QB. He proved how great he is last season.

Roger Staubach vs Troy Aikman, are you familiar with Staubachs numbers or lack of them?

I think Sammy Baugh gets the nod over Sonny Jurgenson. Also agree with Fouts over Rivers.
