He's a very good player. I hope we sign him. He's been the starter in Detroit the last 2 years. Excellent run player , very physical , and can disrupt the pocket. Solid locker room guy on and off the field .

You used the team's first two draft picks as an example of an effort to improve. What was the alternative? Not make the picks?

What do you suggest? 20 Free Agents? The draft is the most important too for improving the team.

Thanks. How did the visit go? Looking like they will try to sign him?

LOL.

We've seen this before.

Are the Cowboys simply undervaluing the market right now?

Nope, the Cowboys have a budget for what they will pay for each position and the player based upon their history and
ranking among their peers. The team has decided not to overpay and they are sticking to their budget no matter if the
player stays or goes. I suspect he is looking for a longer term contract with top of the market money (for him anyway) and a
pretty big signing bonus. The Cowboys are not paying those types of contracts any longer so he picked up his marbles and went
home. If he's still available after the draft, he might lower his price and come back. Who knows?

I have no problem with players trying to get paid. However, I think they should pause and consider why they are still on the market in the first place.

You could call it that but I think it's more bargain hunting. They may know a player is looking for 3 years and $12 million but they hope when he comes in, the Cowboys mystique will get them to sign for 3 and $9 million. If they won't, then they let him go home without a deal. I think it's more of them overvaluing the current feeling around the league of the state of the team. They know the market for each player but they aren't going to pay market prices. They will only sign guys who come at a bargain. Thornton may be the lone exception for this season and once they did that, they said no more market value free agents.

And we'll be stuck with a rookie or Ryan Russell as our starting LDE.

The problem is the Cowboys aren't exactly in a position to be choosey, especially at some positions like DE where they clearly need help beyond just what they could get in the draft.

That's not to say that they should have dropped their pants for guys here and there and overpaid, but it seems they have lost a handful of players they clearly would like to have because they just appear to have lowballed them.

You say they have a large need... I don't hear them saying that or Hardy would probably be in the building.
I think they will still field a team come September whether any of these FA sign a deal or not.

We don't know what Ryan Russell is yet so he may come on. They are not playing Madden and they are going to
still have a team to work with this summer. I don't think they (FO) are going to consult with you or me on what the
team needs are they? Actually, they could care less what you, or I, or anyone on this board thinks or says.

I suspect that David Irving is going to be given a shot to take this position as well. May the best man win. Garrett says
that there will be competition so let it begin.

I don't need to hear them say anything to see where this team has obvious needs. In fact, I'll disregard it if they try to say otherwise because it's clearly not true.

Actually they have said that. Jones was very clear a month ago that pass rush was a big priority this offseason. And in Marinelli's system, pressure largely comes from the DL, especially the DEs, considering we don't blitz a whole lot.

Hardy is a non starter because Garrett simply doesn't want him around anymore so need or not, they aren't touching Hardy.

Oh, I am sure we will field a team come September, but isn't the goal to try to field a team that you believe can actually win something? Right now, we have serious questions at DE and the Cowboys have been shaking the trees on quite a few DEs in free agency, only to come up short other than a project from Oakland.
