No, having guys like Golden Cock and George Selvie are why the Cowboys are at home right now. Ask the Seahawks, they have a lot of Jeremy Minceys on their d-line.
Mincey isn't not close to a Cliff Avril or Michael Bennett.

I would love to be able to sign a guy like Houston or Hardy but I don't see it. It will be interesting to see what happens in Washington. Orakpo was really hurt by the scheme change. He went from years of averaging 8 to 10 sacks to 1 in the 34.
Trying to get my head around a signing like Hardy. He certainly is a heck of a player. And he fits that profile of damaged enough to need redemption and good enough to help. Is there some combination of therapy and support that makes that signing tolerable? Do you think this is a move we might realistically make?
I'm not usually one to want guys out of the league if they're not otherwise obligated to serve time or whatever for their mistakes, but it's hard to get behind bringing in a player who hits and threatens women. Here's a little bit about his departure from the CAR locker room. It looks like he's done there. It also suggests that Hardy wasn't a bad guy to have in the locker room. Just a really, really bad guy to be in a relationship with:

I honestly don't know. I mean, he is a guy who has the kind of talent that would turn our pass rush around and he'd probably fit our Cap Situation. I get what you are saying and I don't disagree but I look at who's out there and I see two or three decent DE pass rushers. That translates into big money for those guys. I see no way Houston leaves KC and if he did, it would be for a price that I don't believe we could afford. JPP will likely also get paid well and would that guy sign with the Cowboys? There just aren't a lot of 43 Pass Rush DE's in FA right now. That might change later in the season but it might not. IDK.
Uh, no. Every team could make room for a guy like Mincey on the roster. The problem is that Mincey is one of the best guys on the line instead of playing a supporting role. This is all well and fine, but having a player like Jeremy Mincey is why the Cowboys are at home right now.
Hardy's really the right guy, I think, if the off field stuff is not a deal breaker. Young. His deal would come with a giant asterisk. His jury trial looks to be happening as early as next month, so the outcome of that will likely be known before FA starts. Got a reputation for being about football when he's playing football, so there's not the RKG questions. Panthers don't want him back. Dallas makes a perfect landing spot for him in terms of a situation where he could be the difference maker for a team that's already competitive. We've got a track record for working successfully with troubled players. He's like a Haley who threatens to kill his girlfriend instead of being a manic-depressive basket case. It's just too tough to get around that domestic abuse incident.
Houston's not going to hit the market. JPP I think is going to get overpaid, though he's a guy I'd have interest in at the right price. I do think there's a chance that he returns somewhat to form in a stripped down offense in Marinelli's scheme. Other than that, what? Avril might make some sense, though there's the cost thing again. Or you try to land your guy in the first two rounds of the draft and hope that Lawrence pans out. Not a ton of options when you're looking for pass rush without much ammunition.
Avril might make some sense, though there's the cost thing again.
Seattle locked him up FYI. Agree with your overall main points.
The deal includes $16 million guaranteed. After Avril accepted a discount from the Seahawks prior to the 2013 season on a two-year contract, it appears the 28-year-old pass rusher is taking another one to stay in Seattle. Avril has graded out as a top-seven pass-rushing 4-3 end at Pro Football Focus in 2014, as he currently sits fourth at the position with 38 quarterback hurries. He has 12.5 sacks across 29 regular-season games for the Seahawks. Seattle continues to lock up its talent. Fri, Dec 19, 2014 12:09:00 PM
Mincey isn't not close to a Cliff Avril or Michael Bennett.
It contributed, but Aaron Rodgers being able to stand in the pocket clean on one leg might indicate you have a problem upfront.
Why divide by the total guaranteed money for the entire contract and not the 2014 cap number?
