Pixels - 3 out of 10. Took the family to see this one night while we were on vacation. Man, it was really, really bad. Considering the concept and source material, they should honestly be embarrassed by what they put out here. Adam Sandler seemed to add in needless Adam Sandler comments wherever he could fit them in. The three is solely for the few scenes in the first hour of the movie where they put the video games on display.

Adam sander has been putting the same girl out there since day. He just changes her dress.

Scott Mendelson wrote a nice article for Forbes. He suggests five ways to save the Fantastic Four franchise. I don't agree with his first four suggestions, which are:
  • Make an FF sequel. My trust in 20th Century Fox in making Marvel superhero movies has waned since Spider-Man II. They run the risk of losing even more money on a follow-up build on their "vision."
  • Make an X-Men movie and stick the FF in it. I would trust Marvel Studios/Disney with that project but not Fox. Mendelson actually split this single option into two similar options.
  • Make a Wolverine movie and stick the FF in it instead. Lame.
The only suggestion I agree with Mendelson involves Fox selling the FF rights back to Marvel and Disney. Allow Marvel Studios to do justice for its very first superhero group title (the FF comic predates The Avengers comic by almost two years). The FF has always held a special place in my comics geek heart. I want it to finally shine on the big screen like The Avengers. Heck, I'll take an effort matching the original X-Men movie but please keep Bryan Singer as far away from another FF rebirth as possible. I'm still waiting to see what he will do with Age of Apocalypse.:(

Pixels....take away the cool graphics and the idea of the 80's games coming back...movie sucked.
Dinklage was funny, Gad had one funny scene where he is addressing some military guys...other than that it was a major let down comedy wise EVEN for a Sandler movie. Some people like Sandler some hate him...I usually enjoy his movies for a cheap laugh but he has put out some really stinkers lately. This was almost as bad as the one where he played himself and his twin sister....almost.

9/10. I'm not a big fan of the franchise, but figured I would check it out. I liked it a lot. It was one of those really rare movies that is well paced all the way throughout. Lot's of action, some comedy, and a little bit of a plot. It was a nice mix, and didn't seem like it dragged on for 30 minutes too long. I liked it a lot.

I'm guessing I'm one of the few who actually liked Pixels, but I had low expectations and it could relate. :)

There is no way in hell it was bad as Jack and Jill. That movie was horrible. I even drank some beers to watch that movie and it didn't help.

Haha, speaking of Jack and Jill. On the first date I had with my fiance I had mentioned how bad Adam Sandler movies had become, and specifically cited that was as being especially awful. She hadn't seen it, and said that we should see it together sometime. It was never really mentioned again after that night. Fast forward to me building our theater, and she had kept asking what the first movie would be in there. I wouldn't tell her, and said it was a surprise. It was Jack and Jill. As soon as she saw the title come up, she started to cry because I had remembered.

I proposed after it was over. Though I might want to reconsider...she liked the movie! :omg::confused::eek:

Did Mendelson say that Fox did Spider Man 2? If so, he's mistaken. Sony owns the rights and produces Spider Man.

As for the Fantastic Four? Yeah, the best thing that Fox can do is to sell the rights back to Marvel for whatever they can get. Any profit has to be better than throwing money down the well on what they're doing.

This film turned out to be exactly what us fans thought it would be - a disaster of epic proportions. It was done for all of the wrong reasons.

First of all, it was produced by the studio simply because they needed to create a movie to keep the rights.

Secondly, the project was given to a young, immature director who believed his own hype and was out of control.

Thirdly, they took a concept that's been successful for over 50 years and decided they were going to do it 'their way'. If you want to create something original, do just that, create something original. Don't piggy-back off of someone else's creation and twist it to what you think it should be. It's like putting a mustache on the Mona Lisa and claiming you've created new art!

I find it amazing that no matter how many people told them it was a terrible idea, that they went through with it anyway. That shows a huge amount of arrogance by all parties. But, guess what? It was a terrible idea and everyone who told them that has been proven correct!

The best thing they can do is to admit their mistake and sell it off for whatever they can recoup to offset their huge losses. The characters still have value to Marvel and it would be great to see them treated as they deserve.

This fiasco has been so complete that it's effectively managed to kill off the comic too.

Guilty as charged. ;)

I'm a huge comic book guy and I can freely admit that the situation with this property is frustrating. Fox hasn't done a good job with it since they've had it, and to see them get their noses rubbed in it - when everyone told them they would - provides a certain measure of satisfaction.

I just hope they realize their mistakes and work out an arrangement to where it's eventually handled by people who can make it work rather than this continued exercise in futility.

You're talking to a guy who owns a copy of Avengers #2 from 1963. (Still working on getting issue #1!) I've got close to 5,000 of them in boxes in my basement, so I've been around the subject for a while. It's like the world is finally catching up to what nerds like me have know forever.

I haven't checked out Daredevil yet, but I definitely will when the weather turns and I'm spending more time indoors. I've been 'saving' that one for the proverbial 'rainy day'.

My brother and I are a couple of ball busters too. We're at our best when we're ripping on something or someone. It's like a comedy routine!

You must have had plenty of material!

after a few minutes it was deemed too easy and we moved onto world peace and how iron man could help accomplish that.

i need to dig out most of my comics and see just what i have. some gems in there but a lot of nova, rom, micronauts and firestorm runs litter it with other stuff.

In my opinion, Marvel is playing hardball with Fox. They are now under Disney and their pockets are full of cash now, unlike when they were fending off backruptcy and sold character rights off to create capital.

The original two movies didn't create a sizable new long-term audience for Fox. Shoot, the only real, separate loyal audience for both of those films belongs to Jessica Alba and her fanbase. This latest movie cannot even claim superstar appeal in that same regard.

Marvel understands the only true demand for the FF characters comes from the comic's fanbase. The title is a mid-range seller. It should be noted that Marvel isn't dropping other less popular circulating titles from its inventory.

So, what's Marvel strategy? Simple. Erase FF for now. The company started the FF purge last year. Even issue covers celebrating Marvel's 75th anniversary omitted the group (see below). I think their intentions are to not feed anything into Fox's passive marketing and merchandising of the FF. Make the FF movie licensing as unprofitable as possible. If successful, Fox will attempt to sell its license to the highest bidder, which of course would be Marvel and Disney.

Also note this would not be the first time in recent years that Marvel has temporarily halted production of the FF title. I believe this suspension of the title will be temporary too until Fox comes to its senses (keeping my fingers crossed!) I would not be the least surprised with the title's rebirth sometime in the future.

They're taking a similar approach with the X-Men franchise. While not eliminating it entirely, I have noticed a concentrated focus on minimizing what once was their biggest money maker.

At one point, Marvel had about 20 books with an 'X' on them. I don't know what the number is now, but I'm sure it's down considerably, replaced with an 'A'.

There's no doubt that Disney and Marvel are making a concerted effort to regain their former properties, and through the ineptitude of both Sony and Fox, it's getting closer by the day.

Hopefully, for all fans of these characters, the rights will revert back to the people who actually know and understand the characters and we can enjoy good movies instead of this dreck.

Child 44. I had read the book years ago so I wanted to see the movie. As usual, parts were changed, it wasn't the brother who was doing the murders, Leo doesn't kill him etc but overall I thought the movie was decent. I preferred the book though.

You're right. Marvel has cut back on showcasing Wolverine a good bit. That's like DC putting the shackles on Batman.

And in their place? The Inhumans. Marvel is trying to position them as their mutant alternatives.

The business side of this whole thing is really showing its' influence on the comics side.

Between the Inhumans, Rom, and the Micronauts, it sounds like you liked the lesser known titles and took the road less travelled.

heh, i just went with what i liked and have complete runs of them sitting bagged up in boxes in my closet. i would think a nova/firestorm crossover would be phenominal but they keep screwing up firestorm and nova went art-deco for awhile and i lost total interest.

i actually own an original firestorm i had broderick draw for me. also some original mike grell art for warlord and autographed in person starslayer and jon sable #1s. mage was also a fanstastic storyline.
