Batman V Superman -- 0 out of 10

I can't believe how bad that movie was.

Nothing made sense. Nothing had weight. And the action scenes were pretty lame.

Absolutely nothing worked in this movie.

How can a movie with that big of a budget fail that miserably?

Where was the supervision?

I would gladly watch Elektra over this movie.

I hear ya.. But disagree that nothing worked.

For me... I was happy to see the "DC" version of Avengers on screen... More than that... I was excited to finally see WW on the big screen. The audience applauded when she was WW right "oh shoot" comment. It was pretty cool to see that reaction.

Gal Gadot worked as Diana Prince for sure... Looks like she will work out very well as WW. IMO.

I actually liked Elektra movie and Jen :)

I thought more about it and one thing did kind of work for me, and that was Doomsday. Despite the slight variation in appearance, I thought Snyder nailed that character once he was on the screen.

He was actually kind of frightening... Like something more out of a horror movie, IMO. Which in this case worked.

But the action sequence surrounding him was lacking and his origin was bonkers.

This is as close I can come to complimenting that movie. But to each his own! I know you're a fellow comic lover so I'm not going to hate on your opinion.

Every response for Batman vs Superman, the new X-Men, this Independence Day, etc was along the lines of, "I wasn't expecting it to be great but I didn't expect it to be this bad."
"Every" may be a BIT of an exaggeration :) but the movies (I haven't seen ID:R yet) have disappointed a significant portion of their audiences for sure.

I think they're showing us how good Disney and Marvel are at what they do.

That it doesn't matter if you have the best of ingredients, if your 'chef' isn't good, the meal will end up being unsatisfying.

No disagreement from me that Disney/Marvel are whipping DC's butt (forum deja vu :p ) as far as overall movie quality between the two but what I was alluding to earlier was that some moviegoers haven't been dissatisfied with the DC movies as much as their fellow patrons. Far from it in a number of cases.

My comment was more a generalization rather than a Marvel/DC thing. Thus far, that's not a contest.

But recently, studios and directors have spent a lot of money on well-established products like Fantastic Four, Superman, Batman, Ninja Turtles, X-Men, Independence Day, and Ghostbusters, and the results have been middling to outright poor.

If you don't have the right people involved, you can screw up just about any good idea.

Eddie the Eagle. 7/10. I could go higher or lower depending on mood. It's really nothing special, but it's also exactly what it looks like it would be and what they obvously intended it to be. Feel good underdog cheese.

Saw this one yesterday, and the best way for me to describe it would be a competently-made, but ultimately forgettable film.

The effects, like most modern blockbusters, are amazing, but the storyline was lacking, more on the level of TV episode level rather than a film. I thought the villain and his motivations were weak, and the crew's 'character arcs' were forced and ill-suited. They didn't fit and none of them felt like they had a chance of happening anyway.

But I will say that it felt similar to the prior 2 films and I think that's a compliment. But, unfortunately, I think the law of diminishing returns is setting in for the franchise. It will take a really creative and epic storyline for the ne t one to win back moviegoers.

I'd give it a 6 out of 10.

Exactly my thoughts. I saw this the other night with two teenagers and while I liked it more than they did, I left thinking it could have been much, much better and they wasted some good opportunities.

The first 1/3 of the movie was really, really good but, unfortunately, it tailed off significantly after that. It wasn't a bad movie but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it again.

Independence Day: Resurgence. 0/10

Really disappointed in this. It was almost as bad as Sharknado in some parts. Goldblum and Pullman were just there for a paycheck. The acting was bad, all around. The musical score was really cheap and the plot was lame. I can't think of one thing I liked.

I'm not as down on Star Trek as the others. The story was slightly week, but there was a lot of other stuff that made the movie good. The Characters were good for one.

Typical JJ Abrams EXTREME CGI, but the swam ships were quite cool.

Either way, even if it wasn't a Star Trek film, it was decent. The fact that it IS a Star Trek film and so follows the story / history we know. I enjoyed the movie much better than if it was just a solo story I had no relation too.

Jason Bourne: 6.5/10

Star Trek: 5/10 barely (and I'm being generous because I'm a fan)
Weak story, very bad execution where the villain basically becomes a cartoon character.

Star Trek Beyond: 8/10. If you have seen the other Star Trek reboot films, it is pretty much in line with them. The plot isn't much to write home about, but Star Trek has always been about the characters for me. The interactions were great, the humor was well placed, and the CGI was great. The plot kept going and never got bogged down in minutia. Overall, I think it is the best of the 3 in the series.

Suicide Squad - 7/10 - Not as good as I hoped, but not bad. The reviews are way too harsh. It's insane that utter garbage like Ghostbusters is over 70% on RT and this is under 30. This was a much better film, and though there were plenty of misses, the humor was a lot better. The story is pretty meh, the villain very cartoonish, but this one is about the characters, and that's where it shines. Entertaining, but not great.

Star Trek Beyond - 6/10. Easily the worst of the last 3 IMO. Terrible villain, pretty bland story, and great character moments were too far apart. I thought it dragged quite a bit, especially with Kirk.
