5.5/10.0

Scarlett Johansson is a wonderful actress. She's a combo of smarts and beauty but she couldn't make me fully see her as Major Motoko Kusanagi. She's technically sound in the role but doesn't fully breathe life into the character.

Same for the presentation of the movie. It doesn't really deviate much from the original Japanese anime classic, which I did enjoy, but the movie doesn't convey the same level of suspense. The CGI is legit in my book though.

I think fans of the anime will enjoy seeing Chief Aramaki brought to life. The actor who plays him looks like and has the same wise-old covert feel of the character but he seems like he was on his last legs physically. He's not too mobile in the movie. That drew my attention more than all his dialogue delivered in Japanese with English subtitles.

Office Christmas party. Not bad. Rather enjoyed it. Although it was a fun movie to watch but it was not a rio roaring funny movie. Would watch again but doubt I would buy.

Rewatched "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". The 40th anniversary edition.

Easy to see how it caused a ruckus in 1974 and helped usher in a huge era for "slasher" films lasting over a decade.

Marilyn Burns, who plays the "final girl" Sally is really a looker. She passed away a couple years ago, not long after making a brief appearance in the "Texas Chainsaw 3D".

Today I'd give the movie 7/10.

My weekend to watch 1974 movies...

Just finished "The Living Dead of Manchester Morgue".

Pretty decent early flesh-eater movie, featuring some of the traditional ideas of present zombie movies but has a couple that haven't been carried through with today's zombie flicks.

6.5/10.

To me, it felt like the powers that be were flipping through a list of successful movies and thought:

hmmm....special effects movies work, yeah, lets have a lot of that

ghosts work, lets have a some of that

Transformers made a lot of $$, work some of that **** in

explosions, lots of them

famous american actors...check

Chinese actors...check

AI...check

story...who needs a great story when you've got all of the above?

Go!

Its too bad it wasn't better, the subject has a lot of room to be really entertaining but I found this movie tiring to watch

Get Out!

solid suspense based on a racial undertone. interestingly the racist perception is not the true story.
not my type of movie, but i found it interesting.

Willow Creek 7 out of 10. Got an 86 on RT, which is a tad high.

Very enjoyable movie. VERY reminiscent of the original Blair Witch. Was done the way a found footage should be done in that way. Use your actors to create tension out of the simplicity.

Enjoyable film. A bit thin and maybe too derivative of The Blair Witch Project, and I dock it for that. But all in all a well done found footage film

The Void. 5.5/10. I had high hopes for this one but it was pretty disappointing. Started off very interesting but the second half was pretty lame.

Minimalism (documentary). 4/10. Nothing new if you've spent a few minutes reading about minimalism before. I don't really trust the two guys. The overall concept is positive but the guys come off as con-men to me.

The Midnight Meat Train. 6/10. Not bad. I like the actors. Like Bradley Cooper on almost everything he's in. Movie was interesting. Could've been a lot better. Solid for a B-Horror movie.

Ghost in the Shell feels like someone took a good move and cut it to pieces and put it back together wrong. It's full of cool individual scenes that don't add up to a full movie, and scenes that seem to be from a different story even. Apparently the villain Kuze is a mash-up of 2 different characters from the Japanese source material that kind of have nothing in common, and it really shows. He wants revenge! Except he's about to transcend human existence anyway! Wait, what?

Even as a dumb action movie it kind of doesn't work that well.

Sicario: 7.5
I rolled my eyes during the first 5 minutes because I could tell that the protagonist (female FBI agent) was going to be annoying, "virtuous" type character. Sure enough, she spent most of her screen time whining and constantly undermining the effort of everyone else. Fortunately, the air time was also shared with other great actors (Brolin and Del Toro). If not for the other actors and a very original plot, I would have given it a 6.0 Overall, it was an entertaining movie.

13 Hours: 7.0
Pretty good action scenes and I know that it based on the testimony of the personnel involved, but I wasn't blown away for some reason. I think the portrayal of the CIA Chief was over the top.

I watched both of these the same day, so Sicario really set the standard for that day. Had I watched 13 hours first....I might have graded it higher, but Sicario had staying power and I kept thinking about it as I was watching the latter.

The Belko Experiment. 1/10. Worst movie of the year. Cliche and pointless in every way.

"Psychomania" a gem from the UK in 1973.

Awfully dated but an entertaining flick none-the-less.

Hadn't seen it in probably 40 years. It use to be a staple on late night Saturday TV (Creature Feature on channel 5 out of NYC and Chiller which was on channel 6).

It's an early entry in the "dear are coming back to life" genre.

6/10.

Worth a look if you're into horror or the zombie genre.

Allied - interesting. Time piece.

Based on true events, made up events... no one knows for sure.

It could have happened that way.

It's worth a play.

Sandy Wexler - the new Adam Sandler movie on Netflix.
Meh More of a love story with a few forced attempts at laughs that just did not pan out. Plus the characters voice might be ok in small doses but not for a whole movie. Plus some of the same running gag lines through out the movie (the dogs) and it was just blah. Many cameos through out the movie were cool just to see who you would notice but other than that...just did not work. Even his normal Rom Coms have some decent laughs and his movies with Drew Barrymore worked as romances but this one was just way too long, had no magic and frankly was one of his worse movies IMO.

Some people like sandler, some hate him...most of the time I like his movies for a mindless comedy and laughs...this one just did not pan out.
