And gawd DAMN is she hot lol. :D
Yeah, I'd never seen her before, that I can remember. I would have expected that movie to launch her career, and maybe she does a lot of lesser known movies, but I that was from 2017, so if she were going to become a household name, I would think it would have happened by now.

Watched Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets with some friends. We had a drinking game going that we'd had to take a drink every time they said Valerian, Laureline, or showed a pearl. o_O

We're all lucky to still be alive. I think half of Cara Delevingne's dialogue is the word Valerian, especially during the big chase scene. Nevertheless, she was the best part of the protagonist duo. ;)

In fact, Dane DeHaan's Keanu Reeves impression was distracting. Definitely the worst part. His best scene was when he was sitting in the background while Rihanna just put on a show. :flagwave:

Besides the scrawny male protagonist, who should've at least did a few bicep curls before filming, the other negative for the movie is sometimes the details of the plot was hard to follow.

I agree, definitely The Fifth Element and Avatar vibes. I'd add Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace to that list. Specifically the Gungans of Naboo, i.e. the aliens after Rihanna.

I also agree with your score. The special effects were mostly great and it was mostly entertaining. I mostly enjoyed it and I mostly recommend it. Or I was just drunk. Maybe both.
I watched most of it but it lost me. First, you are so right about the the word Valerian. Every line of dialogue from Laureline began or ended with "Valerian". What's with that?

She was okay, but movie makers try to hard to make female leads in action movies tough. The should watch RED and see how Helen Mirren plays a deadly assassin.

I don't know Dane DeHaan but I think he was a poor choice for Valerian. It's almost like they shied away from picking someone too masculine for the role. He kind of ruined the movie for me.

And yes, I did get an Avatar vibe in the beginning, some 5th Element, and a few other movies, all of which were better than this one, but I think the vibes we got are really just sign of how cliche the movie is in general. I can see how the younger generations might enjoy it. I prefer the violence of shows like Vikings. LOL

She's got a pretty prominent modelling career, she was also in Suicide Squad and she was pretty good in Only Murders In The Building. I just finished watching the second season of Carnival Row a couple days ago, where she plays the lead and thought she did a nice job. I enjoyed the series, liked the world they were building, the sets and costumes were well done, but unfortunately it's been cancelled.

If you're referring to the movie Suicide Squad, with Margot Robbie, I don't remember seeing her. I stopped watching Only Murders just a few episodes in, and don't remember her from that either. Never seen Carnival Row.

Glad she's been working!

She was the Enchantress, I'd like to see more of her in that role, she played it pretty well....

I was mostly alright with her physicality, it seemed Black Widow-esque. I just remembered another movie that they borrowed from that @Runwildboys and I forgot to previously mention, Men in Black.

"Terrifier 2" (2022)

Wow!

Quite the film. Where "Terrifier" was more of a slasher film, this one is more like a far gorier and violent "Nightmare on Elm Street"–Specifically the "Dream Warriors" sequel.

I do like the "Art the Clown" character. The character is far more interesting than many of the slasher villains we have been introduced to over the years.

It's a long movie–2 hours and 20 minutes, and considered very long for horror film.

Like the first movie, the violence and gore start almost immediately and never let-up. And like the first film we get very little background about "Art" and why the character does what he does.

IMDB rates it a 6.2. I'm a couple ticks below that at 6.0, but it's an entertaining film none-the-less. I just thought it was a bit too far "out there" at times.

“SHE’S A GOOD DOG!”

This movie in particular REALLY pushes me towards buying current issues because I had NO clue Adam Warlock had changed so much from my days as a comics collector. Sorry. Nerd moment. Okay.

Volume 3 is a great third and final chapter of the series, although the jokes during the first 20 minutes or so were very good but missed their timing in my opinion. Plus, the excitement (and the jokes) did not take off until near the end of the ’corporate break-in’. The pre-hype was matched and exceeded afterwards though.

Everyone, from the stars to marginal cast, had great dialogue. Pom Klementieff (Mantis) and Karen Gillan (Nebula) received more material and screentime than usual. Chukwudi Iwuji’s High Evolutionary was as sadistic as I remember from the books.

The movie’s spotlight is Rocket. James Gunn does a wonderfully solid job telling his story and his importance to the team. Audiences should go in expecting heart strings to be pulled from beginning to the very end, whether it is Rocket or the rest of the crew.

Rest assured, Gamora is addressed. I did not like how but only from a selfish perspective. Gunn did right by her.

Two cut scenes are embedded in the end credits. The first one rolls fairly quickly and is perhaps a glimpse of the team as cameos in future movies.

The second one is at the very end. Be sure to pay attention to the newspaper, lol.

The opening ‘Marvel Studios’ is a tribute to the franchise in a ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ type way. And the end credits contain many snapshot memories of everything connected to the team, whether from the big or small screen.

Time for an avatar change…

Yeah, the intro on this one was right out of Nightmare on Elm Street.

The Pope's Exorcist - Russell Crowe does a good job. Based on a real priest. Not a bad movie if you like the genre.

Poker Face - Another recent movie with Russell Crowe. A tech billionaire hosts a high-stakes poker game between friends, but the evening takes a turn when long-held secrets are revealed, an elaborate revenge plot unfolds, and thieves break in. Not a bad movie, liked some of the ideas in it although it could have been done better.

Dungeons & Dragons Honor among thieves - Kind of let down with this one. I had higher expectations. It was not a bad movie but just thought it would be better. This is not a spoiler but I did enjoy the nod to the 80s Dungeon and Dragons cartoon show.

Bodies Bodies Bodies - When a group of rich 20-somethings plan a hurricane party at a remote family mansion, a party game turns deadly in this fresh and funny look at backstabbing, fake friends, and one party gone very, very wrong.....Nothing special here. A who done it with a twist but in a movie where most of the characters are so flawed you don't really like them or care what happens to them.

I found it to be a well crafted film overall, but the animal cruelty stuff was tough for me to watch. In my opinion, while I appreciate what Gunn is saying and agree wholeheartedly with it, I don’t think this was the place to say it.

There was a noticeable change from what Guardians 1 and 2 were to what Volume 3 is. The first two were much lighter and more fun while this one hits you in the feels. Hard.

I’d give it a 6.5 out of 10.

It's about a grumpy old man facing retirement. The story goes the way you expect, it's not great, just kinda mediocre. It's a reason to let Tom Hanks be Tom Hanks, so if you like him, it's alright. 6/10

WW2 Era action film set in Finland, gold miner/former soldier~ Aatami Korpi~ is tracked across the landscape by a **** platoon. Could easily be a Tarantino flick. Comparisons to Rambo and John Wick have been made. Give it a solid 8/10.

I'll Take Your Dead

I was expecting a horror movie, but it was more of a thriller. A widowed farmer with a young daughter has an interesting side hustle, disposing dead bodies for criminals. Problems arise when one of the dead bodies isn't quite dead yet. It wasn't bad for a B movie, story and acting was better than expected, I liked it. 6.5/10

Agreed. I liked it but the wife like d it more. I think it was more catered to women. But I can not remember the last Tom Hanks movie I did not at least like.

Proximity - A young NASA JPL scientist is abducted by extraterrestrials, but when no one believes his story he becomes obsessed with finding proof, which leads him on a journey of discovery.

Lower budget movie but done well enough not to be sci fi channel movie bad. Actually was not bad movie if you go in with low expectations.
