Rate the last movie you saw

Superman - 7.2/10

I agreed with most of what has been had to say about the film already in this thread.

The highlight to me was Hoult, who gave us the best onscreen portrayal of Luthor to date.

The CGI was excellent. The visuals were really good. The movie felt very “comic book-y”. It was full of action, but had a couple touching moments. It had comedy but didn’t feel forced.

I might be being a little harsh with a 7.2 because I’m just burnt out on the genre.
 
Superman was average to below average. A Superman movie where he gets beat up most of the time, some secondary characters having more of an arc than he does, and him needing help to defeat his foes. A very weak Superman with hardly any story that made sense.

There was story reason behind it though.
The beginning of the movie explains it. he was still hurt and weakened from the battle that happened right before the start of the movie.
 
i saw Superman with my grandson and his girlfriend on Saturday. I remember when my kids were that age and would never be caught dead in a movie with me. Grandkids are special. I wish I would have had them first. Anyway, the movie was good. I really enjoyed it. It may be my favorite Superman except for the 1st one with Christopher Reeves. Of course that one all Superman did was save Lois Lane. Saved from the airplane crashing, saved her from the helicopter crashing, saved her when he dropped her from space, saved her from dying in an earthquake. It may be more sentimental but still like it better. This one was more of Superman saving himself all the time. This movie did have the best Lex Luther tho. This guy nailed the part. 7.5 out of 10.

My wife and I really liked the movie. Coincidentally, the last movie my wife and I saw in theaters was Top Gun Maverick, which we both liked as well. The two movies were made by same people. They know how to make action riveting. I don't know much about F1 racing, but even I know there were liberties taken to move the story along. I had no problem with it as it was entertaining. I never realized until now, but I have liked every Brad Pitt movie I've seen. That surprised me as I don't think of him as a "real" actor, whatever that means.

For some reason, I never watched this. Not as funny as Step Brothers or Taledega Nights, but I laughed out loud a bunch. Some really intelligent one liners in it and really pokes fun at the music biopic genre.

I know and that doesn't make it any better. Explaining it doesn't make it better. Superman is the most powerful superhero ever and he get handled throughout the movie. Dumb, dumb, dumb no matter how it was done. Also to start the movie like that wit some explanation was beyond silly like it's a sequel or something. The whole movie made Superman look like a weakling who often needed help to beat his foes. The movie is an incoherent convoluted mess.

It's very hard to write a good story that challenges the hero while displaying his full power and make it 1) good, 2) believable, and 3) not boring as heck. A full power Superman with no challenges would be the most boring movie ever. Superman is probably the most challenging Superhero to write for because it's a fine balance and relying on Kryptonite too much is a recipe for disaster. Would I have started the movie that way? Probably not. It does feel more like a sequel's beginning. But I still think it was good overall.

It is not good, believable, and is pretty boring full of corny jokes that James Gunn and his weirdness loves to add. Never said he had to be full power but getting your *** handed to you for 90% of the movie when you are THE most powerful superhero ever isn't the way to go. We've seen plenty of movies where Superman has challenges and it's still good. We've seen plenty of movies where he doesn't have help and it's still good. The movie was everything but about Superman. As I said the side characters got more to do than he did. He was a very weak Superman in this movie and that isn't the way to go.

James Gunn was not the right director for this movie. You need someone focuses on the character of Superman and not everything around him.
 
The Minecraft Movie - I have got to say, this movie really exceeded my expectations.

Is it dumb? Absolutely. But holy hell, it was a blast!! Great special effects, solid humor, and just an all-around fun ride. I was genuinely entertained and pleasantly surprised.

I do not factor in Johnny Storm's presentation. None of the previous CGI versions in the earlier movies disappointed me. This one did not as well.

The overall presentation of the movie seemed a bit dry to me. Things were technically sound, but there was an artificial feel at the same time. For example, the team's interactions with the public seemed shallow and lacked warmth.

The family's joking around was kinda bland. The humor attempts curled the corner of my mouth upward, but nothing just made me laugh out loud. I believe others in my theater felt the same way because people rarely laughed during the entire runtime.

I think moviegoers will have one solid gripe about how quickly things get done in this movie, lol.

Without giving away a spoiler, Superman moviegoers will get a little deja vu watching this movie. :muttley:

Two embedded end credits scenes. The first appears shortly after the end credits start rolling. Do. Not. Miss.

The second is seen at the very end of the credits roll. It is nothing special. I was very disappointed having waited (just like I do for every superhero movie) to find out what they thought up.

The Fantastic Four will RETURN in Avengers: Doomsday​

It is more comic book accurate, so it is better than its three predecessors on that point alone, in my opinion. I have been giving some thought to how I feel about this latest version, though. My conclusion is that it plays more like a television episode (or one of those old television 'Movie of the Week') to me than a standard movie.

Even so, I rate it higher than the original film, which I had previously ranked as the best of the previous three. Susan is better. Ben is better. Reed is better. I would give a slight edge to the prior Johnny. The Silver Surfers are *kinda* even. Galactus stomps the snot out of the original sequel's version.

This movie takes a few minutes to establish why the team is this other Earth's protectors, again in a comic book-accurate way. I thought that was important because there were no Avengers, etc., That element was missing from the previous films. It does not delve deep into Reed's sheer brilliance, but does underscore his genius nonetheless. Just a few observations I can think of off the top of my head.

That about sums up my feelings (minus the comic stuff as I never read it). Only exception may be Galactus which was pretty meh to me, though I guess at least he wasn't a cloud.

I'd probably give it a 6.5 or 7.

Superman I'd give a 4.5 or 5. It really did nothing for me.
 
Final Destination Bloodlines

It is a 6 or 6.5 but if you like the series…..it bumps it up to a 7 or 7.5. It is worth a watch if you have seen the others.
 
People to the movies again? Like, INTO the actual theatre?

Haven't been since... Endgame I guess and haven't felt the need for any movie that has come out since.

Transformers One was close, but in the end I'm fine owning the 4k Blu Ray.

Cinema was one of my things in the first 35 years or my life but not ever since... is the home theatre too good? Are the ticket and beverage prices too outrageous? Do people just annoy me too much these days? Can't really put my finger on it. Maybe once the kids grow old enough I'll go back.

I used to love the theater and even worked at one in high school. It sucks now. I was going to go to the latest mission impossible, but it was $40 for two people. That, combined with people talking or on their phones the whole time, it’s a terrible experience. I’ll wait a month for it to come to streaming.

It used to take 8 months to a year+ for a movie to come to VHS.

I still cannot get over No Military resistance forces involved at all...
