Ray Sherman not returning

I always liked Sherman, and thought he seemed to have a good relationship with the receivers. Thought he was a very good coach and I will miss having him around. Not to mention i just thoguth he seemed like a cool cat. Preciate the work Sherm.
This is how I feel.

I will reserve judgment until I know who we get and who else goes, but I do really like Coach Sherman.

Campo goes I will forget this anyway. I'll be too busy celebrating that.

The Cowboys had no comment on cutting ties with Sherman. The list of potential successors includes University of Tennessee wide receivers coach Charlie Baggett, who held the same spot when he was on the Miami Dolphins staff with Garrett in 2005-06.

Wow. I am impressed they got that in there.

I think Romo has to do more with Austin being successful than Sherman.

Roy Williams didn't really blossom under Sherman.

Dez Bryant wasn't the greatest route runner under Sherman.

I just feel like none of our receivers were ever really good route runners... So I don't know what exactly we are giving coach sherman so much credit for?

Roy Williams inability to hold on to the ball?

Miles Austin's multiple drops?

Where is the development of Ogletree, who they said was running routes like Terry Glenn...

..........alot of you guys who CLAIM to know so much about the NFL and the Cowboys should read this post. Our WR's have been underperforming for a LONG time and someone has to be accountable. Just because you LIKE a guy doesn't mean he's a great coach...grow up.

I do not know Sherman as a man, and as a coach I have scant data to fairly evaluate him.

But I can only describe the results with our receivers in recent years is "decidedly mixed."

How is a coach not at least somewhat accountable for the countless times receivers didn't know their routes, couldn't run their routes, or ran them poorly in recent years?

I also cannot help but wonder if Sherman overtly or subtly helped undermine Garrett when TOxic and Roy and at times Crayton seemed to be stirring a stew of dissension.

I don't know if it was/is a factor, but I could completely understand how there *might* have been a negative vibe between JG and Sherman.

OTOH, he helped turn a 7th round pick in Patrick Crayton into a legitimate NFL WR.

He helped develop a UFA from a tiny school into a #1 in Miles.

Hurd is better acknowledged for his special teams play, but he is still another UFA who has made contributions.

Again, the guy has been pretty much lauded around the league as one of the best in the business long before he got to Dallas.

This is pretty plausible, and I have no real beef with JG if that's the case.

I wonder also if it isn't this based on how the Cowboys let Sherman go with no comment on the matter. They didn't even issue the standard "he's a great coach and we wish him and his family well in his future endeavors" speach. Makes you wonder if Sherman did something wrong behind closed doors.

I get a sneaking suspicion Roy Williams will not be a Cowboy this coming season.

Time to cut our losses with this JAG, he can go back to Detroit and suck there.

I read somewhere that Sherman was having "rant sessions" on Thursdays for the WRs. Apparently this is when the WRs could voice their complaints and just go off on Garrett, Jerry, or whoever else they wanted to.

Garrett probably didnt appreciate this very much and took this as "undermining" his authority. Maybe Garrett thought Sherman did not have his back and sided with the WRs instead of defending Garrett. Or maybe Garrett though Sherman just sucked at his job and felt somebody else could do better.

I dont know and I suppose we will probably never know what really happened here, but the one thing this does show is that Garrett is 100% in charge now.

Fair points all about accomplishments on his resume. There are two sides to the story, aren't there?

Loyalty comment is interesting.

Was just wondering how it was across the 'big pond' and in London this Christmas.

One of the coldest winters in some time. London had quite a bit of snow this year. Great for the kids. Terrible for everyone else as the infrastructure in this country is approaching that of developing countries. Airports shut down, etc. Nothing like the weather in the US though. It looked really bad this year. Hearing there is an ice storm in Atlanta today as well.

Everyone wants to the HC to have ultimate power, until he does something with that power they don't agree with. Very good chance Sherman might be an excellent position coach. This may not be an indictment on his coaching ability or his performance, could just be his style and coaching philsophy just didn't fit what Garrett wanted in his organization. The move wasn't made hastily or without insight. Garrett has worked with Sherman for 4 years. He knew what Sherman was about, for better or worse.

Certainly we've had too many different agendas going out at the Ranch at various times in the post-Parcells era that take away from the singular vision of the head coach. That could be a DC that the HC didn't pick, players bypassing the head coach to go directly to Jerry's office, or perhaps a position coach who took a fatherly/camp counselor approach to his players rather than imposing the ultimate will of the HC. It's Garrett's call to make, his job is ultimately on the line.

Roy and his big mouth made a comment that the offensive coordinator can make a star out of whoever he wants and leave it at that...

garrett called him in and told him that is no good apparently.

THe best part is williams saying he was taken out of context. Not even man enough to stand up for what he said to the guys face.

I really hope he is out of here.

Good for Garrett.

There is no doubt Williams needs to go.

Cut your losses already.

Enough.

I live about 35-40 mins north of town...around 6 inches of snow and a nice coating of ice...more ice the rest of the day...I'm probably stuck in the house for at least another day, perhaps till Wednesday afternoon
