Ray Sherman not returning

I actually come out of this being impressed by Jason Garrett, even if it means he may take some heat.

I don't think any team can win when there are different agendas. There has to be a chain of command, and there has to be a single vision. People always made fun of Parcells' coaching mafia, but he knew this better than anyone.

Clearly, the wide receivers didn't always seem to be on the same page with the rest of the team. It was the receivers who complained most often and loudest over the direction of the offense. I don't know if that had anything to do with this at all, but you can't have one group of the team moving in a different direction as everyone else. And, admittedly, for all I know Ray Sherman had his hands full trying to do everything he could to keep those guys in the fold.

In either case, a change is not necessarily the worst thing in the world.

Really hope this isn't the case.

Sherman was one of the good ones on our staff.

Can't say I like this move from Garrett. His first move is a bad one.

Campo and Huock remain, but Sherman's out?!

So you know for a fact this is Garrett's decision and not that he just wants to leave?

has anyone ever taken the viewpoint that maybe garrett didnt like the fact that the wr were constatnly griping in the media and that they go to their coach and gripe all the time.

just two weeks ago garrett called roy williams into his office to let him know barking to the media isnt allowed.

Maybe sherman wasnt strict enough with the players and garrett wants a different voice talking to them.

which leads me to.

John garrett has been a wr coach in the past and maybe he slides over to wr coach. Paul chryst is a tight ends coach who maybe could come here and be oc/ tightends coach...or Paul P could coach tight ends.

or obviously someone who isnt here comes in and coaches tight ends.

and if this is the case and Jason garrett wants a stricter staff who deal with the players differently then more power to him. You cant change things unless you change things.

and no this doesnt mean sherman is a bad coach or I think he is a bad coach because I dont and he isnt. He is a good coach and maybe he just doesnt fit right now.

Good point, I don't know that.

But I am disappointed that he's leaving, regardless of who's choice it is.

Funny how people badmouth Sherman now that he's not returning, but had nothing bad to say about him while he was here.

Now that he's out the door, he's bad news?

Agreed, the effect he's had on our receivers has been invaluable. :(

Agreed, I think this move may be more about team cohension than it is a judgment on Sherman's performance as a WR coach.

DMN is reporting that Garrett made the decision to non-renew Sherman's contract.

I'm guessing as Theebs mentioned, perhaps Garrett didnt like the way WR's (all udner Sherman's watch) would go public with complaints, I also read somewhere today that Sherman hosted a vent/rant type session for the WR's on Thursdays.

Garrett's a Jimmy type guy it appears, and that kind of stuff would never fly with Jimmy.

Ray Sherman has gone from head-coaching candidate with the Dallas Cowboys to out of the organization.

Sherman acwknowledged today that he has been told the Cowboys will not offer him a new contract. Sherman had served as wide-receivers coach for the last four years, and his contract was about to expire.

Sherman had no comment on the decision by head coach Jason Garrett. He brought Sherman into the organizaton.

I am fine with it if its Garrett's decision but he needs to be consistent and get rid of other "non-performing" coaches.

I'm kind of heartbroken over this one.

There's no kind of about it. I am not a fan of this at all. Big, big mistake by Garrett and company.

Why is it a big mistake exactly?

People have been railing away at Jones not letting his HC make his own coach decisions, now he makes one and you call it a mistake?

I think Sherman did a nice job, but I dont recall any situation in league history where the WR coach was critical to a team winning big or losing.

Shermans presence most likely threatened Garrett.

He took the sham interview to heart!!!!

Lol

It's really not that funny. Depending on how he felt about the issue, I wouldn't blame him for it. People deserve more than a "sham interview".

He is just getting started. There are going to be multiple changes. Jg is going to put his stamp on the team.

How in the heck can our new Head Coach start angering people with his first decision as HC. Why dont the fans give him a chance to put his stamp on the team not what arm chair GM, HC, Owners want to be.

How would it "threaten" Garrett?

Maybe Garrett didnt like the way Sherman allowed WR's to vent or go public with complains, nothign wrong with that. Jimmy would never allow one of his coaches to do this either.

Or maybe as BZ pointed out, maybe Garrett got tired of watching WR's run the wrong routes or drop/deflect balls that turned into picks.

I am shocked that Sherman was not extended but at the same time excited change is taking place within the organization. As far as it being a big mistake, let's see how all of this plays out before jumping to conclusions.

how? Sherman in all his years in the league has already established himself as a position coach.

He is a failed OC and a very good position coach. He will have a job immediately somewhere.

It has to be about a new group garrett wants around him or he was tired of all the chirping from the wr here and doesnt want to waste time next year having to call in wr, like roy williams to tell him to shut his big fat mouth.

could just be a philosophical difference in how the coaches will approach the players.
