Been seeing a lot of talk about the upcoming decision of what we do with Dak...and rightfully so, as I feel like he’s been incredibly inconsistent but that is another conversation.

What about Zeke? Obviously this dude is the heart and soul of our O. I was on record saying we should’ve drafted Ramsey due to how easy it is to draft serviceable RBs. Not saying we made the wrong decision bc Zeke has been stelllar... but look around the league...

Steelers
Chargers
Chiefs
Etc...

Key RBs go down and life goes on...

Not saying don’t pay the dude, but I think it’s a serious question to be considered whether or not we make him the highest paid RB in the league moving forward at the expense of paying other guys on the team.

I'm not touching the top numbers for CBs, DTs, or OGs with Zeke's contract.

It's been proven time over time that RBs are expendable and are the position most dependent on external factors. Beef up those external factors with the cap saved, and find a value RB in the draft which happens 8x every year.

Bell thought of as a top 1, 2, or 3 RB misses a season and Pitt improves
Melvin Gordon goes down? Nothing changes
Todd Gurley misses a series? A UDFA comes in and makes a ridiculous YAC TD
Saquan plays incredible and his team is still a dumpster fire.
Kareem Hunt(top 10 RB) goes down and they plug his backup in and they dont miss a step. His backup Spencer Ware goes down and they turn to a castoff in Damien Williams and he comes in first start and collects 100 total yards and 2 TDs.

This replacement of performance simply doesnt happen for any other position.

Save your cap $ and draft capital and always go cheap at RB unless an insane bargain presents itself

Get that 3rd round comp for Zeke or trade him prior

True although none of those teams are a 90’s run based offense...

I don’t know about trading him, but the conversation about the resign is valid.

Maybe go all in on his rookie deal and a franchise tag to try and go all the way?

I love Zeke but it doesn't make sense to tie a very large amount of money up in a RB. I hope he'll give us a discount (along with his BFF Dak) and they stay because they want to win together.

Love Zeke but the problem is when a RB is done he’s done
The problem with signing one to a second contract is it out lives his playing time
The advantage of taking a good one in the first rnd is the 5th year option
You can then tag them and have a 6th which for the most part is the limit they are productive
More so when you use them as much as we do
Zeke is getting a ton of carries and being used more in the pass game
6 years is probably all his body can dtsnd

It would depend on the trade value Zeke has

I wouldnt use franchise tag on him given the cap hit that comes with it.

This is a problem for next year. Zeke is special and where a normal back may get you 100 yards in a game, I’m confident Zeke gets me 130+ and a couple of catches for 60. Pay the playmakers.

Now if he slows down next year it’s a different conversation.

It’s not a debate.
Zeke is staying and he will be the highest paid RB in the league.
And we will be lucky to have him.

No RB does what he does. None.

I'd say it's a debate. That's why it's split at the moment.

It might be true that no RB does what Zeke does, it's definitely true that Zeke can't do what some other RBs do. So doesnt really matter.

Gurley is garbage without a clicking passing game.
Zeke is not...

We've seen what happens when Zeke doesn't play.

I think a big piece of this will depend on Daks development.

Right now, he needs great protection (Zeke helps), great running game and a solid check down game that can churn out extra yards.

If he can start seeing the field better and be more accurate the RB becomes more expendable.

If not, maybe you let the QB walk and pay Zeke and get a cheap rookie QB.
