RB expendable Debate

Been seeing a lot of talk about the upcoming decision of what we do with Dak...and rightfully so, as I feel like he’s been incredibly inconsistent but that is another conversation.

What about Zeke? Obviously this dude is the heart and soul of our O. I was on record saying we should’ve drafted Ramsey due to how easy it is to draft serviceable RBs. Not saying we made the wrong decision bc Zeke has been stelllar... but look around the league...

Steelers
Chargers
Chiefs
Etc...

Key RBs go down and life goes on...

Not saying don’t pay the dude, but I think it’s a serious question to be considered whether or not we make him the highest paid RB in the league moving forward at the expense of paying other guys on the team.

Did you sleep through the entire 2017 season? Zeke needs to be paid period

I'm not touching the top numbers for CBs, DTs, or OGs with Zeke's contract.

It's been proven time over time that RBs are expendable and are the position most dependent on external factors. Beef up those external factors with the cap saved, and find a value RB in the draft which happens 8x every year.

Bell thought of as a top 1, 2, or 3 RB misses a season and Pitt improves
Melvin Gordon goes down? Nothing changes
Todd Gurley misses a series? A UDFA comes in and makes a ridiculous YAC TD
Saquan plays incredible and his team is still a dumpster fire.
Kareem Hunt(top 10 RB) goes down and they plug his backup in and they dont miss a step. His backup Spencer Ware goes down and they turn to a castoff in Damien Williams and he comes in first start and collects 100 total yards and 2 TDs.

This replacement of performance simply doesnt happen for any other position.

Save your cap $ and draft capital and always go cheap at RB unless an insane bargain presents itself

Get that 3rd round comp for Zeke or trade him prior

How did Cowboys do without him last season?

Fairly easy? There aren't many RBs who do everything very well. He's probably the most well rounded back out there, and replacing him would be extremely difficult, IMO........................though I wouldn't miss the "Feed me" crap.

I don’t think we’d replace the caliber of player he is, just saying we could replace him with someone who could still churn out 1K yards behind our line.

The opportunity cost is losing some of the other young talent.

That is what we settled for in 2015 when Murray left and it sucked

Settling for 1000yds is really setting the bar low

We should draft a RB late or sign one as UDFA every year though

Your examples don't even make sense. Pittsburgh improves? They were 13-3 last year. One missed series for Gurley lol how about him missing games? The two games Hunt has been out KC has scored 2 of their 3 lowest point totals of the year. The Chargers won't go anywhere in the playoffs without Gordon.

Zeke picks up a ton of tough yards and key third down conversions for us that other backs would not make. He's also a phenomenal blocker. Our offense would be terrible without him. Zeke accounts for 40% of our total offensive yards. Any old RB would not be able to do that.

Obviously QB is far more important than RB but to say that great RBs are not that valuable anymore and can be easily replaced just isn't true.

Let's see how it plays out, before we decide his fate.

Right Joe “Meat on the Bone” Randle says hello to that plan. I think Dallas learned its lesson here with that 2015 season.

Too early to debate , He's under contract next year and they could use the 5th year option. The future is unknown regarding performance and even injury. There's time for it to play itself out.

Wow history really does repeat itself and lessons are never learned.

Didn’t we have this discussion after 2014? The backup stud was going to pick that bone clean. Anyone can run behind this line.

Hahahahaha. Right.

You pay playmakers. You’re only helping the competition by letting him walk.

This is a problem for next year. Zeke is special and where a normal back may get you 100 yards in a game, I’m confident Zeke gets me 130+ and a couple of catches for 60. Pay the playmakers.

Now if he slows down next year it’s a different conversation.
Totally agree. People don't realize that on a play where we are supposed to lose 1, Zeke manages to get 3. Murray had that ability too. There are no stats to show woulda coulda shoulda. You put a regular back in there and you get the regular stats.

Teams can definitely find new talent, and most RBs don’t tave the shelf life they used to on the whole. I think you can get a good 7yrs out of Zeke though, and is the type of player you could be ok with the decision to extend,if that’s what they want to do.

Pittsburgh's offense improved......... Connor plays on offense.

"One missed series without Gurley, how about games" wth are you talking about? He hasn't missed gamed to use as a comparison lmao

"Chargers wont go anywhere without Gordon" Says who? They just beat one of the top three teams in the league without him. Lol is this guy serious?

McFadden and Alfred Morris did a solid job behind this line hahahha. Put a somewhat talented back back there and youre gonna get solid production. Do better
