RB Situation

Everyone knows I am a big fan of Felix. Trying to be objective, all I can say is these other backs don't come close to having the skill that Felix has. Murray being the exception. Felix is much better than Tanner and its not even close.

Okkkk

Per Mike Fisher on the FAN he said the FO wasn't willing to part with Felix because they feel that he's not far (hardly any gap between what he brings and what a starter brings) from being a starter. He said they feel that tanner and company have a pretty big gap from being a starter and therefore felix stays. They could be blowing smoke, who knows?

If there is such a dropoff between a starter and Tanner, then why were we going so long at RB?

Makes no sense.

We have backs made of glass....

That's a great question. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. However, that's what Fish was reporting.

The only reason I can see is if they don't trust that Tanner, Felix, Murray can stay healthy. That's a huge stretch and still doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

At this point, Felix is JAG. He is a bust as a first round pick but still serviceable. Doesn't have the burst he used to but he should have never been picked in the first round in the first place. There were better RBs available and Chris Johnson was available.

Hindsight is 20/20. No use in crying over spilled milk. I too would have rather had Chris Johnson but that's moot right now. I'm just hoping that Felix can have a nice year in his role and contribute.

Exactly. I like Felix, but the truth is he has done nothing more than flash from time to time. He's just another first round bust for us. Might as well get rid of him and get something in return while we can. There is NOT a huge drop off from Felix to Tanner/Dunbar/Olawale EXCEPT for MAYBE blitz pick up...

MAYBE.

That's not really true at all. When he's been healthy, he's been a good back, especially as a complimentary/change of pace back.

He's had his share of injuries, and while that's disappointing, it doesn't change the fact that he's a good player when he's healthy.

Replacing Felix is harder than simply saying that Tanner/Dunbar can get it done, especially if we lose Murray (who has a history of injuries himself) at some point.

And, just for the record, you don't have to trade a player in the last year of his contract "just so you can get something for him."

Let's just let Spencer, Jenkins, Felix walk for nothing right?

Maybe. They'd all help net compensatory draft picks.

Thats the problem. The milk is spoiled. Tanner or Dunbar can fill Felix' role. Time to cut our losses and move on.

I'm willing to see what Felix can do for us this year. I'm hoping he can get back in playing shape and be a decent weapon for this offense. At the same time, I'm not opposed to trading him but it has to make sense. I wouldn't entertain anything less than a 3rd. I don't know if any team would do that, so I think we get to see Felix as our number 2 this season.

So we currently have Murray, Jones, Tanner, Dunbar, Olawale, and Vickers on the team.

Anyone else think Felix is about to get traded? Cuz even if we were to trade Felix, we would still be long at RB, and that's with one of them being able to play RB and FB.

Dallas could have heard there is interest in one (or more) of the backs and simply didn't want to subject them to waivers.

Teams try to gauge other teams' interest before making their cuts, waiving the young players they feel are most likely to make it through to the practice squad.

It's exactly true.

That would be incredibly stupid on the cowboys part.

"OH NOOOES! Some team might take our 5th RB! Lets go shallow at one position so we can keep 58 RB's!!!"
