Ready to compete or a year away?

Definitely not ready. We’re just hot right now.

We are three weeks removed from battling the commanders and giants for the basement.

Our defense is not playoff ready, that’s certain.

Things are looking up though

When you look at the league this season, their just isn't a dominate team this season. Both Chiefs/Bills were SB favorites and it is possible, neither make the playoffs. Eagles just haven't looked right all season long. Rams are probably the most complete team, but they aren't unbeatable by any means, hell Carolina just beat them this week. Green Bay? We put a 40 burger against their defense without Lamb. Point is, it is wide open.

I heard a stat yesterday from PFF, Cowboys DL graded out as #1 in the league since the Q. Williams trade. That is insane, considering they were dead last just a few weeks ago. They played 2 good teams in that stretch, so it isn't padding stats against the bad teams in this league. The next step is creating defensive turnovers, which potentially could be coming with Diggs returning.

Playoffs are far from a guarantee at this point, where they don't control their own destiny, get it and see what happens. If they fail, it will be about building momentum for next season.
If the Cowboys make the playoffs anything is possible. Look Washington got to the NFC Championship game last year. This Cowboys team is better than that Washington team. We should enjoy the rest of the season and hope for the best.

Ready to make a run this year but it might be a little too late.

We have dug a hole unfortunately, and need other teams to lose to even make the playoffs. This weekend will tell a lot. I've seen this team too many times look great at home and then look like a completely different team on the road. A road win on Ford field will be huge. A loss will be devistating.

I still don't think we are built for out door road games in cold weather. We need to win the Division next year and have home field advantage.

Traveling to GB, Philly, Chicago late in the year could be a problem for us.
Not if we continue to run game, but yeah, I’d rather be home

Physical teams dominate in cold weather in my opinion. We have made some significant progress in the draft with T. Smith, Beebe, Booker and most recently with some trades.

The trenches are significantly improved, but we need to continue to add more physicality at all levels.

Totally agree, but this defensive line, we’ve been beginning to punish people. I haven’t had this much fun in a long time. I don’t even mind losing as long as we’re beating people up lol

I agree. I believe an impact Safety/LB will take this defense to another level.

Both.

This is the correct answer. If we'd been able to get QWill, Logan Wilson, Overshown, and Revel on the team two games earlier, we'd be in much better shape to make a run this year. If by SOME chance Dallas can get in the playoffs this year, they'll be a dangerous team. I just don't know if it will happen.
And then Eberflus would Defensive Coach of the year. Funny how that works.

The thread about the league being the most open it's been in a long time is pointing at reality, I think. If we can get into the playoffs we have the roster to beat anyone. Feels crazy to think and even crazier to say or write but I believe it.

That said, I think we can be a real powerhouse next season as long the front office keeps their foot on the gas.

Even if Dallas were "ready to compete" now, it might be too late already for '25. We're a huge underdog just to make the playoffs.

Next year is always a crap shoot. Prescott could get hurt or hit the wall, and instead of having a healthy team like right now, next year's team could be decimated with injuries like the Lions are right now. Or Pickens could hold out over his contract, and totally disrupt the offense's chemistry. This is the hazard of wasting decades like our fool of an owner has.

Never underestimate how Mr. Jones cans screw up an off season.

I think we're still 2 years out, and that depends on everything going right. I'd like to see Dallas take a QB high in the draft next year. Dak is getting older and we need to be aggressive.
