I am a Cowboy fan that does not reside in Texas. I have been to Texas Stadium and generally people are nice. I know at least half this board is probably not from Texas. I want your opinions and please don't feel shy.

If you are from Texas, particulary the Dallas area, what do you think of Dallas fans from outside the area?

They are not our home team. We had been exposed to them alot when we were kids and adopted them as our team.

I know what makes the Cowboy brand so powerful is their global appeal. But as native Texans, do you feel you are more of a fan or that fans outside the area are not the same as we admire them from afar?

I had some debates about this and wanted your input.

never thought about this..good thread..I am not a native Texan so I cannot answer

I am a native Texan. I like that we have so many non-local fans. Its a plus in my book!!

I'm not from Texas, but I am as true blue as a Cowboy fan can be. I've never looked at it from the standpoint of those who live in the Dallas area. If anything, they should be flattered that people all over the world are constantly glued to their TV sets because of the team that represents their city.

I am not a native Texan but I am going to answer anyway.

I don't think where you are from matters any more. I have a friend here in Tucson who is a Saints fan. He has never lived anywhere but Tucson, Arizona. I have known him for almost 13 years. He has never rooted for any other team.

I have a friend here who is a Bears fan. He has never lived in Chicago or Illinois, but his Dad played college ball with Dick Butkus, so he is a Bears fan. He has never rooted for any other team.

I have a friend here who is from Boston. He is one of the only long suffering Cardinals fans I know. He likes the Patriots, but he loves the Cardinals. He even named his business after them.

Where you are from does not matter one iota to what you love in a football team.

I spent the first 8 years of my life in dallas but have lived elsewhere since. I don't really even know any other cowboys fans lol.

I'm a native Texan and I've never given that a single thought, but since you brought it up...IMO anyone who would feel like that is an idiot.

I hear you, but I ask as I had heard from some "native" dallas area fans who don't accept the rest of us as fans of the team. Obviously, it does not matter what some may say. I was just curious what folks felt and if anyone shares that opinion, do they have the courage to share it.

Not a native fan, but I think that this is a great question. The Cowboys and a few other teams like the Yankees / Steelers / Lakers are kind of unique in the broad distribution of their fan bases. The Cowboys might have the highest out-of-state to domestic fan ratio in professional sports. Up here in the Northeast, the regional fan boundaries are very distinct, and there is little crossover.

I was born and raised in Dallas, so it was very easy for me to become and fan, and support the Cowboys growing up. I think most Texans would respect fans from around the country for supporting in places where it's not as typical. If your a loud and proud Cowboy fan in the heart of New York, Philly, or D.C. I find that pretty awesome.

To answer your question though, I do not think Texas fans are in any way different or superior - that's just silly. However, I hate band wagon fans or those that simply support a team because its the popular thing to do, and I'm sure a percentage of Cowboy fans are that type.

Native Texan and Native Dallasan here, I don't think not being from Dallas or Texas, in any way reduces your fandomhood. I know plenty of "fans" here in Dallas that don't know jack about this team and only watch three or four games a season, while on here we have fans from Maryland, Alaska, Michigan, Pa and other places that are far more knowledgeable and far more dedicated.

If anything being from out of state and still being a boys fan, especially East Coast or another big football city gives you some stars towards your fandomhood.

I was born and raised in Texas. Lived there until I joined the Marines. Moved back there when my husband got stationed at NAS Dallas but don't live there now. I do consider myself a displaced Texan, however. So I feel qualified to answer.

I personally LOVE that we have fans all over the world. I take pride in the fact that when we are on the road you can count on Cowboys fans invading our opponents stadiums.

People are not less of a fan for not living in Texas but supporting the Cowboys. To me that just means they have good taste ;)

Mom says I was conceived in Texas before we moved back to NJ in 1966, so I'm a legit fan.

They are idiots, probably just jealous that here is this guy from out of state that knows more about their team and is more dedicated than they are. Personally, I'd rather have you guys (dedicated out of staters) than the typical Dallas Yupii fan.

Fans in other areas have to deal with so much bull**** that local fans don't have to deal with (at least in the DC area), for a native Texan to tell me to my face that I wasn't a real fan or a true fan would upset me a lot.

I've been a Cowboys fan since 1975. I've never stepped foot in Texas. I grew up in NC which at that time was Deadskin territory. Just about all the kids in my school were Deadskin fans. I guess in the 1970's if you didn't have a team, most would have went for the Cowboys or the Steelers. I just loved the Star. It all started with Tom Landry and Roger Staubach and it went from there. But I stayed with them all the way, even through the bad times in the late 80's. I remember going into a mall in 1989 , looking for Cowboy stuff and having the clerk actually laugh at me. Nobody was more happy than I when we finally won that SB in 1992. I think as long as you stick with a team through good times and bad, then you are a true fan.

I am a local and to me there really seemed to never be any other choice. Usually there is something that helps you identify with a team and that seems to spark that initial interest. I took the kids to Florida last week and there was a family there that were Green Bay fans. They said that they were huge Cowboy fans because they lived in a town close to where Tony Romo played. They were at some local event where Romo stayed for 2 hours after everyone else left signing everyones autograph.

Ultimately we are all just football fans. Just that some are unfortunate enough to grow up in D.C. or Philly and are exposed to some really bad influences. It's not really their fault.

Dad was in the Coast Guard. We were there when the Ice Bowl was played. There is no other team in my mind. My favorite teams are the Cowboys and whomever the Commanders are playing.

I say that because I live in Northern Va. I hate the Commanders and hate Theismann (rhymes with Heisman). My only regret it Lawrence Taylor didn't break both of his legs that night. Man is a womanizer, and adultereer and doesn't even know football. Can't believe he is on NFL network now. He's also lazy and doesn't do his homework on the league. He only knows the Commanders. Ok rant is over. Go Cowboys.

I am a native born and raised Texan, lived in Dallas when I was but a lad and have never considered rooting for the Patriots even though I've lived in New England now for close to 10 years or so and my son in law is a lifelong Patriots fan. I am a Cowboys fan. Fans are fans of their teams from all over the world not just locally. A bandwagon fan on the otherhand...well they are not worth talking about.Thank God for the streams on the internet I get to see most of the Cowboy games here in cold New England.

It actually takes a lot more courage to be a Cowboys fan in enemy territory than as a native Texan in Dallas.
