Real Cowboy fans? Please be truthful

I'm talking about bandwagon fans. Not fans that joined at a specific time. That makes no sense.

What about the ones that became fans after 1989, but are still fans today. Would you consider them bandwagon fans ?

Since memorable games were brought up....I've seen a dozen or so games at Texas stadium but the one play the sticks out in mind the most was when, Mcnabb scrambled on Monday night for what seemed like 30 sec and then threw a bomb down the field and Cowboys were blown out. The Philly fans were awful I saw no less than 4 fights and one was girl on girl.

I had open heart surgery and a 4 way bypass that afternoon so I missed that game.

I have been a Cowboys fan since 1966 when I was 12 yrs old, and I don't miss many games that are on TV here.

For many years all I had was the "Dallas Cowboys Weekly". Now with ESPN, FOX, USA Today, the internet, etc. I can keep up easily.

I live in Steelers country, .. and fans that live outside of Texas know it can be painful being a Cowboys fan in another teams area.

I will be glad when we get our sixth Lombardi trophy, .. I am sick of hearing that they have 6 and we have 5.

They always end any discussion or debate with, "we got 6, how many you got?"

What is with the obsession with time? It has nothing to do with time. A bandwagon fan is a bandwagon fan.

Bandwagon: an activity or cause that has suddenly become fashionable or popular.

If you are a fan of the Cowboys because it is now fashionable to be a fan of them, I don't like you. (or Saints, Vikings, Yankees, Rangers, or whoever else)

Since I'm a native Texan that moved away, I think I still qualify to answer this.

I'm okay with all Cowboys fan except a few. You know the fans that weren't Cowboys fans when they were 5-11 several years in a row, but now are on board. Of course that goes for those types of fans no matter where they are located.
Guess I missunderstood you from this quote.

Fans in other areas have to deal with so much bull**** that local fans don't have to deal with (at least in the DC area), for a native Texan to tell me to my face that I wasn't a real fan or a true fan would upset me a lot.

This is so true. I was born and raised in Dallas, but have lived in DC for the last 11 years. Whenever I meet someone and it comes out I am a Boys fan, I immediately say that I am from Dallas so they will not give me grief. DC folks do not like locals that are Boys fans, AT ALL. Probably because there are so many of them. :laugh2:

I would not diminish the level of fan for those living outside of Dallas. BUT, living in Dallas gives it a whole different feeling and meaning. Outcomes of games effect the mood of the city, just like it does for other teams and cities. If you don't live there, you just don't feel it as much, no matter how close you follow it. At least that is my perspective from living on both sides of the tracks.

I hear you, but I ask as I had heard from some "native" dallas area fans who don't accept the rest of us as fans of the team. Obviously, it does not matter what some may say. I was just curious what folks felt and if anyone shares that opinion, do they have the courage to share it.

The problem is there are a lot of "fans" who are only fans so long as the team is winning, and can only name 2 or 3 players (ie Romo, Ware, Austin, mayyybe Witten). They still think Romo is a gunslinger, loose cannon, don't know much about Wade Phillips but don't like him, etc.

Anybody who follows the team here is generally a legitimate fan.

I was born and raised in a suburb of Cleveland Ohio. I have been a diehard fan of the cowboys since 1994 and wouldn't consider any other team no matter what sport to be my favorite. I finally got the opportunity to visit Texas stadium 3yrs ago and it was a dream come true. when I was in school and even since I have heard I'm a bandwagon fan over and over again and there's nothing further from the truth. When Dallas is playing I am out at a sports bar dealing with obnoxious fans (of other teams) making comments to me about Romo and Dallas. My boyfriend is a Denver fan so he gets hassled more then I do so I guess I get spared a little bit by that. Anyways, I just wanted to share.

It's cool. Your right the first post wasn't exactly clear, although I tried clarify it in my first response.

Well, Im from Argentina, never been to the USA, and Im still a Cowboy fan. I stay awake till 2 am when its necessary (sunday games finish at that time here), Ive gone to internet locals to watch or listen online audio while vacationing (the seattle playoff-loss) went back to my apartment and didnt go out for the night cause the loss, Ive tryied to explain to hundreds of people that ITS NOT RUGBY what I like and watch, how to throw the football, I try to explain to my girlfriend that I dont really care what she says, Im staying sunday indoors watching my boys play (or listening em, in case I cant catch the games live), I hate the skins, I hate the eagirls, I just really dont care bout the giants (I dont like em but I dont hate em like I hate the other two..). I watched old games from the early days, Roger the Dodger, all our superbowls, the triplets era of course...

I ask everyone that goes in the USA to bring me something of the cowboys. Ive already have a keychain, a coffea cup, jerseys from barber, romo and a nameless one, a sweatshirt, stickers, Ive made some pictures to be framed and theyre now in my bedroom wall (one from witten, another from gramatica, one of T.O., two from Aikman, one of L.A. And My most precious one, a jersey of emmitt that Ive on my wall to, and the legend below "ALL TIME LEADING RUSHER"

I feel like a Cowboy and not less than anyone. The fact that Ive never been in the old texas dome hurts really much, But I didnt have the money to make a trip there before demolition... But Im damn sure that Ill be there in the new one really soon.

I've caught a ton of **** in this area by the displaced Commanders fans for being a Cowboys fan. Or the occasional stupid Iggles fan that LOOOOOOVES to argue about how we are choke artists, and how consistent and dedicated the Eagles are to winning. Yeah okay. lol.

out of state, out of country fan here. I was born in Ottawa, Canada. I started loving the Cowboys when Staubach was leading them, Dorsett was running the ball and Landry was strategizing on the sidelines. My brother and All my friends were Commanders fans through the eighties and I suffered for my allegiances. But I hate the bandwagon jumper more than anything. My own stinking brother became a Steelers fan after Snyder bought the Deadskins. On one level I respect that cause Snyder is an _________! But you just can't jump teams.

When Jimmy Johnson and the triplets came and brought dynasty back to the Star all my patience and support was justified as I knew it would be.

Now we've all had to go through another drought. But it's all going to swing our way again. Even Jerry and his family can't stand in the way of OUR Star shining. Slowly he's been converting to the kind of owner the Star deserves.

I'll be a Cowboys fan for life. And I really don't care if some Texans feel that's foolish. They're my team too.

I don't see that it ever has mattered or ever should. It's a national sport, not a local one. If being local makes someone a better fan, more power to them.

I've lived in Pittsburgh my whole life. Basically my Dad liked the Cowboys because of the close calls against the Pack in 66 and 67. So, when I was 5 -Super Bowl X - I can remember my Dad being the only person rooting for the Cowboys at our house and I really thought they had cool helmets.

I don't remember watching another game until Super Bowl XII, and I've loved this team probably more than anything outside of my 2 daughters, ever since. Through grade school, high school, college, getting married doesn't matter I've never liked the Steelers, never rooted for them - the Cowboys have always been my team.

As a native Texan and a Cowboy fan since I was maybe 6 years old, I have mixed feelings. There is a side of me that says that the Texans are the real fans, but I logically know that isn't the case. I know states like Oklahoma have always supported the Cowboys as their local team, and Arizona was so pro Cowboy before the Cardinals moved there that there are still a ton of Cowboy fans in the stands when we play Arizona there. I suspect that the Texans are probably a little less likely to be fair weather or bandwagon fans, but realistically I know there are a lot of hardcore Cowboy fans all over the country that are just as devout as those that live in Texas.

Me too fellow Buckeye. :D

GO BUCKS!

Been a Die hard Cowboy fan for 35 years and counting.

Been to Texas once for the Triplets induction into the Ring of Honor.

Only my wife and family really know how big a fan I am.

I grew up in eastern Canada and have been a Cowboy fan since 1970.

Back then there was no internet of course, and Canadian media didn't pay too much attention to the NFL. I got all my info from any print media (and Strat-O-Matic football) that i could find, Sporting News in particular. I remember anxiously waiting for that paper to arrive in the offseason just so i could read the one paragraph blurb about nothing in particular.

I love the Cowboys like all of you, and although i have never been to Dallas, in my mind and imagination i have been to Texas Stadium many times.

Man that makes me think back to how I couldn't wait for my Dallas Cowboys Weekly to arrive each week.

Now I laugh about it and how fast you get info now a days.

Hostile and others - please allow me to apologize... My first post was intended to be accurate, with a little fun mixed in by mentioning being at the Dorsett run at Texas Stadium. Afterwards, I'm afraid I've managed to create a potential credibility issue. 1st - all I said about myself was true (except being at Dorsett's 99 yard run. 2nd - that little bit of fun wasn't funny and I realize it was sort of my own internal, warped way of keeping it light. I look forward to exchanging my views with the Zone from outside of Philly - and I am a long time Cowboy's fan...

Also, not exactly sure how to operate this blog called the Zone. So, Joe Realist, you reached out to me and I couldn't figure out how to respond via my pop-up blocker. If you could try again, I think I can figure it out...

so let me ask some of those who think being GEOGRAPHICALLY closer makes them a fan, then what about people in Iowa? Montana? Idaho? North Dakota? Utah? Nevada? Mississipi?

does that mean these fans and millions living in those areas are not true fans? give me break. what stupidity.

All cowboys fans be brothers.
One asked why arizonans are such good fans. A natural response is that geographical closeness makes them natural fans.
Now, someone from Mass. New York or Montana, they too be true fans but not because of geography but because of other factors, be it familial, love of America or a favorite players etc. But fans are fans.

I hope you are illuminated and brightened by that explination.
