Realistic Contract Values for Zeke vs Gurley

All this about 50M over 4 years.

Dak will get 50M every 1.5 years when he signs a new deal.

The realistic values of the contracts based on how the guaranteed money is structured:

Gurley
3 years, 40M, fully guaranteed.
13.3M average

Zeke
4 years, 50M, fully guaranteed.
12.5M average

Worst Case:
Gurley: 1 year, 22M
Zeke: 2 years, 38M

are you rolling in the rookie contract years?

Zeke will only be a cowboy for 4 more years. By then he’ll have a ton of tread on his tires. At least we know how long he’ll be around.

Fully Guaranteed At Signing - Zeke = $28,052,137 / Gurley = $21,950,000
Fully Guaranteed Year after Signing - Zeke $37,652,137 / Gurley = $40,000,000
Fully Guaranteed Two Years After Signing - Zeke = $50,052,137 / Gurley = $45,000,000

When those guarantees are paid out are a different story, but this is really more of an apples to apples comparison of guaranteed $$ and when.

Zeke will last far longer than that. What ppl are severely underestimating is how explosive this passing game is going to be, Dak will throw for 4,500yds this season.

Technically, Gurley is 4 years for $45M in guarantees if he's on the roster for the 2021 3rd day of the league year.

Zeke Healthy....Gurley not Healthy. Realistically speaking of course

Maybe.

But if he's like Peterson or 22 or Gore or LT, he'll have plenty left in the tank and we'll have him locked in for several years at salaries that are bound to become a much smaller % of the cap

For the record, I think the contract is a win/win for both sides. Zeke has security for the next 4 years and Dallas can void his guarantees if he gets suspended due to his offseason behavior.

Also, the cap charges are manageable so I think this deal is structured better than Gurley's.

The 4 years starting with 2019 for Zeke.
4 years, 50M.

The 3 years starting with 2018 for Gurley.
3 years, 40M.
zeke's contract is extremely complex and an apple-to-apple comparison is not really possible.
seems like a lot of it was hedging against his bad behavior.
and it seems like the agent threw in additional year options in exchange for more guarantees.

With regards to Gurley:
  • If they're going to pay the 2021 bonus then they'll also pay the 2021 base salary of 4M.
  • He also earned a 1M bonus on the new contract already that does not show up in the other numbers.
  • That's means if he plays 4 years, it's 4 years, 50M.
  • That does not include another 1.25M in possible bonus money during that span.

Nothing overly complicated in the details that they've released so far.
