Charlton will be the only rookie that could be an immediate starter. Outside of Mayowa and Tapper the Cowboys don't have many other options at RDE... Tapper is essientially a rookie as well, while Mayowa is solely a 3rd down player, so I doubt either one of them starts. It is possible Lawrence ends up starting at RDE, but he looks like he is around 290 right now and has had back issues so we will see... The only thing I like about Lawrence is the fact he is in a contract year so if he has any chance of developing into the player that has flashed at times its now or never...

I don't know why I bother talking to someone as negative as you. The team chose to improve their defense and not stick with the status quo.

Anyways, give me 13 wins and no playoff wins over a 4 win season any day...why? That means 13 Sunday's out of the year, I drink a few too many beers and enjoy myself. Obviously anything shorter than a Super Bowl is a disappointment but I am no draft scout so why in the world would I want my team to purposely play lesser players if that means they lose more football games? Maybe you should give football a break if you're that negative about your team.

i dont hear you disputing facts. are you a fan like the eagles that play to win sunday, or are you a fan of a dynasty. I am the build a dysnasty person. Does that mean im less of a fan? no, means i see it differenty. You want to high fan your buds at the local pub, join the bills, or the eagles, or even the Cardinals. Some teams are about winning and filling their stadiums, they dont make the goal to reach the SB, if they do, great, if not no big deal. Dallas however is a team above the rest.

Im sorry if my achieving is not up to your standards. Maybe if i come down to "dude we won today" you' ll be happier.

Let's say by midsession. I think Awuzie takes OScans job. And Lewis is nickel. I think Taco is a year away, but immediately rotates in behind D Law at RDE. That is assuming Irving is starting at LDE. I think Woods is a core special teamer this year, and White and 7th rounders are PS. And obviously, Switzer is punt returner and WR4/5.

Don't see Scan starting. Awuzie will. Reason CBoys took him in 2nd round.

Charlton and Awuzie.

Lewis will be a slot guy and Switzer will only see the field in spread formations.

This is pretty close to where I am at.

I believe Charlton starts (or is at least a central part of the rotation) and that Awuzie is one of the top 3 corners. I think Lewis will work his way into the 4th corner role as well as sub-packages effectively diminishing the anticipated role of Nolan Carroll to that of a deep reserve. I think Switzer is our day 1 punt returner as well as the replacement and then some to any and everything Lucky did for the team offensively. I agree with seeing him a lot in spread packages as well. I think Wood will be nice depth for the future at S and be an immediate impact player on Special Teams. I love Noah as a future prospect and likely practice squad player this year.

Actually, I watch pretty much every game by myself; occasionally with close family. I get beyond angry when they lose but I get over it.

I just would prefer to spend my Sunday's watching my team strive to put up a quality product every week rather than just experimenting with players so MAYBE we will be better for it in 3 years. It makes my Sunday more enjoyable and it makes life in general more enjoyable. I'm not going to whine after winning a game that we haven't won a SB in over 20 years, I'm going to enjoy it and hope this is our year. When it's not? I'll pout for a couple days but I'll look forward to the process next season.

The NFL is a lot different than the Cowboy "dynasty" teams. You can't just waste seasons. 3 seasons from now, Dak will possibly be a 200 million dollar player which will limit roster moves, Zeke will going into his fifth year option and POSSIBLY his last year with the team and our OL will no longer be considered "young". We need to put all of our chips on the table these next 3 seasons to win a SB or two before Dak's contract limits our roster flexibility. Pats are the only dynasty since the Cowboys dynasty aka free agency; we all aren't going to be that lucky but if we can get just one ring during the next couple seasons before we need to start paying guys big money, it's worth it. Seahawks looked like a dynasty a few years back, they paid their QB and got a little older and now they are just an okay team...that could be the Cowboys in five years, let's get a ring or two while we can.

We have had a rough two decades but Cowboy fans have a lot to be excited about. We started a new chapter last season and we have one of the youngest, most talented teams in the league. Will we win a couple rings with this group? I hope but if we don't, life goes on...there is always next season. A "dynasty" is not as realistic as the 70s, 80s or 90s. Give me a decade of relevance and a ring or two over the next decade like the Steelers/Packers and I will be satisfied.

I would count that as three starters. That slot CB is going to get more snaps than a SLB.

It was rough reading until this part. Then I just gave up.

how long do you honestly think he has? I could be wrong, it happens. But lets be honest, if a new regime comes in, (which i doubt) or Rod cant go more than 4 more years, than the next guy eventually takes over and wants to do what he wants to do, correct?

Im not looking at now, because who knows how long Rod can stay here. Good defensive mind, i agree, long term prospect, not so much. If I knew 10 years or if Dallas brought in a new coach and Rod would stay, sure, than im ok with everything, but im am questioning Rods longevity with the team. I dont think hes a bad coach or sub par, hes very good, but his time is the question. Read further down ill explain in another post.

you would be absolutely right, if Dallas did what i suggest this offseason and just brought in a new regime. Young QB, great RB, healthy Oline, talent to catch the ball. What do we do, throw away the defense in the hopes its ready in a year or two. Bad planning by Dallas. Should have just brought in a new HC, young and be here for years and can match the other HCs in our divsion. Nope, we go with a vet coach whos been outcoaches by rookies HCs and cant duel with the best of them.

Jason Garrett has proven to the league, hes an average HC who needs talent at every position to make it work. Ok fine, thats a lot of the coaches, but when the roster is sub par, JG cant step up to the plate. THats fact Now you put steak at every position and hes still struggling but has a better chance. Now we backed up the D some, an older DC, and really i dont know if we are grooming our next DC, if we are great, if not, they will bring in hteir own ideals, and if Garrett is somehow pushed out than the next guy should have the right to bring in his own guys and that WILL set the defense back even further. Bad timing while trying your best to be bad. Thats what Dallas did.

Now we are back to gambling, much like they did with Romo and much like even they admitted gambled on Troys health. All bad bets.

The timing was right to bring in a new young regime, now we are set back, on possible set back on the possibilty of another set back. at some point, bring in the flame throw and burn it down the ground or we can all happily whistle and defend this mess. Either way, depending if the NFC east gifts us again, i dont expect the GIants or Eagles to roll over. Skins are still competitive and Dallas has to push harder this season than last and i dont know if Garrett has it in him.

Throw the young studs out to the wolves and lets who emerges as a starter, because lets face it, this season is up for grabs. What do you have to lose? 8-8, 12-4, just as much a gamble as 2-14, because the NFL as changed its face and barring injuries, most teams are competitive each week and most teams step up to play Dallas harder.

With Marinelli's rotational defensive scheme, "starting" isn't really that big a deal. All the defensive rookies will get time on the field. I know a lot of posters here like the Switzer pick and I'd like him too if we didn't already have Beasley. He'll be the guy that definitely won't start and I don't see how we use him a whole lot.

let him play and get experience. The field is the best teacher.
