Realistically, this is what we'll see for the rest of our lives

I would think the Stanley Cup is by far the hardest to win.
I strongly disagree, the NHL Playoffs consists of a series of games compared to the NFL Playoffs format, win or go home. In Hockey Playoffs a team can have several bad games and still win the Stanley Cup, but in the NFL it's do or die, there are no second chances.. One bad game and your season is over - It's cutthroat time at its finest.

Yeah....I'm holding out hope that the Cowboys can win it all in spite of Jerry and son. Guess we'll have to wait and see!!
That's my belief as well. If we win it all it will be in spite of Jerry and Jerry jr. It's possible but this team is nothing like the Cowboys of the 70's or early 90's when winning was expected and not hoped for. I'm still passionate about the Cowboys and I've invested too much of my life being a fan to "get another team". There's only one team for me. Unfortunately it's run by a crazy, Mr. Burns type billionaire who can't get out of the way.

Pretty much the entire past decade can be summed up as such: a sinking realization in Cowboys Nation that 1) we're too loyal to ever ditch the team but 2) the team will never win a Super Bowl again in our lifetimes, perhaps never even get close.

A thousand Jerry threads have been posted before, so there's no point in digging up that topic again. But, realistically, we can only enjoy highlights, maybe go to the occasional game (AT&T will always be a top-10 stadium,) muse about the longer-and-longer ago past glory days, and maybe enjoy the performance of the occasional unexpected breakout star such as Romo, Parsons or Miles Austin.

At age 34, I know I'm young compared to many other posters. But I'm pretty resigned. Never even seen Dallas advance beyond the divisional playoffs or win a road playoff game in my life. At least I'll still have my San Antonio Spurs, who have given me all the championship joy and dozens of playoff wins the beloved Cowboys never did.

So......this is life? Dallas will be so-so for life?
Gotta have the chess pieces to win. They almost have the defense straightened out but the need a QB that can perform in the playoffs. Do you realize if Brady signed with Dallas they would have another trophy. He was available too. Nope instead they signed Dak for 40 mil a year when Brady only wanted 30 mil.

It’s a sad day when we need to compare ourselves with also-rans to make us feel better!

I don't consider some of these teams also ran, it shows how hard it is to make it to a SB. Also I did not post this to make myself or anyone else to feel better. Feeling fine thank you but I don't buy into this crap of we can't win a SB ever because of Jerry. I don't have a defeatist view as some many do. I do see this current team as competitive and with a legit chance of making a SB run. How others feel I don't really concern myself with that.

The only thing that matters is the playoffs, this is where a team gets graded, not by counting wins in the weakest division in the NFL. in the last 25 years, only the Lions have a worst playoff win percentage than the Cowboys (23%, 3-10). Fans with common sense DO know it's as bad it is. It's bad, very, very bad. BTW, Jimmy won those championships, not Jerry.

if Jerry would have hired a standalone GM or 3 or 4 or 5 since Jimmy left, with the public title that it would have made a difference

LOL....Would've, Should've Could've
only to the public lmao show me it makes a difference real gms fail fired fail fired and no real proof this would have made difference all that matters is what i think in my world and i say opinions are just that i stick to my original post you seem to take umbrage with. And??

DC are relative we are at least winning, and this drought is not uncommon. I already post you are wasting my time 18 other teams have not made the SB since our last one many successful teams have had far longer droughts

get over it get passed it or move on go to another site, be a fan of anther team, real fans aren't sweating you haters, who are blind to facts,,

it happens, teams have long droughts at least ours has us relative and, in the mix almost yearly.

In my opinion, I'd say the sport with the most moving parts would be the toughest to win. However, you have to take playoffs into consideration.

For example, in 1985 MLB had 26 teams and only 4 made the playoffs. As opposed to the NHL, 21 teams and only 5 teams didn't make the playoffs.

Right now I'd say it's the NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA. MLB baseball keeps adding playoff teams, that's why I have them 2nd.

And that's the problem. There simply have been no highs or lows ever since that last SB win. Since then the Cowboys have been going nowhere, no development at all. Heck I'd prefer a 0-17 season to all that mediocre nonsense in all those years. Because at least then some people would wake up and something real could change. Just like after that 89 season.

it pretty much sums it up. I will always be a fan, but now I am no longer a fanatic. I have never been so "not caring" about a season as this upcoming one. I don't care about camp, season or how it goes. I am not planning my Sunday's around watching cowboys games any longer. if I miss a game, I miss a game and I will probably miss a lot this season. if they ever make it past the first round of playoffs, I probably will plan to watch in the 4th quarter if its close, but its probably end up in a loss anyway. I have ZERO faith in the Joneses. I don't have faith in this team's mindset and their ability to rise to the occasion. we may end up being the Cubs of the NFL....99 year drought.

When would that have happened? I get your point in regard to Brady VS Dak, but there isn't a QB in the history of the sport that would have had us win a trophy with the D we had in 2020.

I mean Cubs fans had their 108 year wait for a championship.

27 years is only a fourth of that.

Patience is a virtue, lol.

Cowboys!
yes, I will write a letter to my great grand children about the cowboys of the past...I will note not to open it until we win a championship o_O:eek:

You're the one settling for so-so....move on, if you don't like it...people think it's easy to win championships.....it's not!

So you are the so called fan supporting 27 years of mediocrity.

Loser mentality and a sucker for getting Jerry rich.

I’d just like to point out that baseball is boring, hockey sucks and basketball is about one or two guys on a team…

football is still by far the best team sport and hardest to win

No one said it is easy.

But let's be totally honest here, the Cowboys have been one of the worst postseason teams over the last 25 years. We aren't talking about a franchise that has made a few runs here at a SB and just had bad luck or an injury or something that derailed a SB run. This team has THREE playoff wins in 25 years. That ranks them with some of the worst franchises in NFL history.

That's just the reality. That's not bad luck or an example of how tough it is to win a championship. It's simpler than that, it's just bad stewardship on the part of the Jones'. And it doesn't look like that's changing anytime soon as Stephen eventually will seize the reins full time.

The Cowboys actually make me believe there really is a devil and you can cut a deal with him. Because it's a possible explanation for how this franchise could dominate the NFL for 5 years and then literally end up being one of the worst postseason teams over the next two and a half decades.

Jerry cut a deal with the devil in 1991.

I used to think that we would eventually win in spite of Jerry. I mean, if the man had EVER been "all-in" since the 90's, then we would have won two rings with Romo. I don't care what anyone says...two rings if Jerry could put his ego and/or boredom aside. Now? I don't think we will ever win again in my lifetime. Why? Because I've seen the future, and so have you. Stevie doesn't appear to feel the need for attention, looks totally bored when he has to talk about football, and I'm betting he doesn't require us to at least remain competitive for rating's sake. And he doesn't even try to pretend not to be cheap; he flat out tells you. He's Jerry 1.0. The only hope I have is that he is as disinterested as he acts, and once Jerry is gone, he'll sell. That's it, that's all the hope I have for another Super Bowl.

Watch out, you will be called out as a naysayer on this board.
You know that meme where the astronaut is being shot from behind... What your saying has always been true. Only delusional fans think otherwise.
The last time Jerry actually cared about winning was when he hired Parcells. Sometime in that time frame Jerry realized he cannot got 3-13 or ever rebuild this franchise. His goal is to be in the news, 7-9 through 9-7.. yes I know its a 17 game season now.. As long as the Cowboys are in the new cycle, as long as there is a chance for games to be flexed to SNF, as long as they have a shot at the playoffs that is good enough.
It is more work and frankly more money to actually go and compete. He would have to have a great GM, free agent scouting department, board room full of analytics people.
He never wants to be out of the news cycle.

I have stated this hundreds of times. Look at Jerry's current position. He purchased the Cowboys for under 200 million dollars, this team is worth close to 10 Billion if they would be sold.
He has 3 SB's, HOF'r, earns more profit, takes in more revenue than any other franchise in the NFL.
What is his motivation to compete for a SB? It really wouldnt change his bottom line too much. More credit would go to the new GM, front office folks.
He has no issue paying, Dak, Zeke, Tank, or Micha, or you name some guy he drafts. There is a spending floor every team has and he will always do that.
You can look up how much cash a team spends which is different from the salary cap floor and the Cowboys are always on the low end. They will never spend like the Ram or any team that is actually trying to go out and win. Btw, don't harp on my saying Jerry doesn't spend enough, please don't just address one part of my statement. Jerry spends enough to win. He just really doesn't care about actually trying to win a SB.

I am almost 10 years older than you, saw the 3 SB's, the 89-92 was an amazing turn around. If a franchise can go from 1-15 to SB champ during that time frame, this team should be able to be rebooted now. Other smart organizations do it all the time. The Bills, Rams, SF, Cincy, LAA, Miami. Bottoming out is really the best way to reboot in the modern era and by the 3rd year you are competing. It's really taking a hit one year.
The year for that to work was 2020 the Dak injury Jerry wouldn't let the team tank so we paid Dak 40 million a year, and we will compete for playoff spot, maybe make it lose in the first round and be back here again.
