Realistically, this is what we'll see for the rest of our lives

To me, in the end it doesn't matter. I'm always going to be a Cowboys fan. Just like any other fan that can't just switch teams no matter how bad they are. At least for us, we have some good years sprinkled in.

This is why I said they don't actively seek a championship. If the Cowboys do win one, it will come out of nowhere during one of our good seasons. What the Cowboys did in the offseason after 2016 was disgraceful. Zero effort and showed no intent on winning a championship. So I can't blame the OP for his post.

There's a guy named Mark Holmes that has a you tube channel. I'm sure a lot of people in here know who he is. Recently he said Stephen Jones said that the Cowboys will take less risks after Jerry is gone. I haven't heard him say this, but if there's any truth to it, I'm a bit perplexed. That's like a vegan saying they're going to eat less meat next year.

This reflects my view pretty much accurately. The worst thing is, that we have been sitting just in the grey insignificant middle for ages now. Neither really good nor really bad. That's why too many people including all the homers and the FO are happy enough with the situation. 12-5 season, what's to worry about, we're top ten lol.

You could also say that on average a team should be in a SB every 16 years. But some want it more than others.
Correct, within. A 32 year span the "average" team should be in the playoffs 14 times under the current system. They should be in the divisional round 8 times, conference cha.pionship 4 times and 2 Super Bowls...winning 1.

Pretty much the entire past decade can be summed up as such: a sinking realization in Cowboys Nation that 1) we're too loyal to ever ditch the team but 2) the team will never win a Super Bowl again in our lifetimes, perhaps never even get close.

A thousand Jerry threads have been posted before, so there's no point in digging up that topic again. But, realistically, we can only enjoy highlights, maybe go to the occasional game (AT&T will always be a top-10 stadium,) muse about the longer-and-longer ago past glory days, and maybe enjoy the performance of the occasional unexpected breakout star such as Romo, Parsons or Miles Austin.

At age 34, I know I'm young compared to many other posters. But I'm pretty resigned. Never even seen Dallas advance beyond the divisional playoffs or win a road playoff game in my life. At least I'll still have my San Antonio Spurs, who have given me all the championship joy and dozens of playoff wins the beloved Cowboys never did.

So......this is life? Dallas will be so-so for life?
I agree.. last year when they played the bucs I thought my God this team looks great! S/b here we come.. then what happens same **** that's been happening since jj left. Doesn't matter what player or coach we have this is the cowboys! You really can't have a positive attitude about this season atleast me anyway.

Uhhh, hello? We would have already been to at least 2 NFC Championship Games (2014 & 2016) if it wasn't for the Badell chosen crooked referees. Everyone knows that if one saw those divisional games those playoff years under Romo & Dak.

If one is going to cry/complain about how "it's been 30 years and we're never going to reach another SB ever", well, you'd better complain about this crooked Commissioner and his crooked Referees. If not, shut it with the constant Cowboys complaining already (goes for anybody in general).
Yeah I didn't say what you said I said.

And you're right. It's the refs. They are out to get us.

No other team is subject to garbage calls. I suppose you only watch our games.

Yes, this is exactly what you can expect. Nothing is going to change. Dallas will miss the playoffs this year and Jerry probably fires McCarthy. Continuing with the past 25 year trend, he will hire Kellen Moore. Kellen will keep the entire staff for consistency. They will make the playoffs in his first year and lose in the first round. Then they won’t make the playoffs the following year and the cycle will continue.

I have come to expect that this team will be a let down. Several years ago I would be bothered by it. Now, I just enjoy watching the games and having low expectations. If they win, they win, great. If they lose, I go on about my day. But for this season, don’t expect much.

I tend to agree with a whole lot of what you said here, if not all of it.

Yes, I hate that it’s been this way but history continues to repeat itself over and over again. Just don’t think it will ever change.

Winning a Superbowl is the greatest achievement in all of team sports, It's the hardest and most difficult championship to win.. Let me remind you the Cowboys have won 5!! Being a long-time Cowboys fan, I experienced the lowest of lows Losing 15 games in 1989 and the highest of highs winning 3-superbowls in 5 years. Granted it's been 26 years since we've won, but throughout my long journey as a Cowboys fan I never questioned my own allegiance or loyalty, Because I have faith that someday we will be back!! That silver Lombardi Trophy will be ours once again!!

I'm simply calling out the obvious. I also don't give 2 chiclets about other teams. If you can't see the obvious bias and one-sided bad calls against our Cowboys, especially against teams like the Aaron Rodgers led Packers, you might as well go kiss Badell's ring. Acting like a smart aleck in order to deflect only shows weakness.

I would think the Stanley Cup is by far the hardest to win.

And that's the problem. There simply have been no highs or lows ever since that last SB win. Since then the Cowboys have been going nowhere, no development at all. Heck I'd prefer a 0-17 season to all that mediocre nonsense in all those years. Because at least then some people would wake up and something real could change. Just like after that 89 season.

I believe Stephen will have no stigma haunting him when Jerry departs , he may actually hire and give a coach the decision making authority . Jerry is chasing a nightmare of trying to prove he is a Gm and that the 90s championships were not all jimmy’s picks . He sometimes takes too many wild decisions trying to outsmart the system. It has failed so far.

Just do what I do. Stop admitting in public that you're a Cowboys fan.
That is such a sad statement.. There are teams like Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions that have never been to a Superbowl throughout the history of their
existence, and yet we have Cowboys fans crying about not winning in 26 years.. Truly pathetic.

"I'd prefer a 0-17 season". I realize sarcasm runs rampant on these boards, but this is ridiculous.

The next windows to close are for Tyron and Martin, both 32 this year. Another generation flushed down the Jerry tubes.

I was definitely getting the "end of the Landry era" vibe from last year. The relentless slide of older players getting worse, with no light at the end of the tunnel.

Come the playoffs last season, we were as healthy as possible, we had hit on an all-star in Parsons, we had a bunch of quality role players still on the final years of their rookie contracts, we even hit on role players in free agency, and *still* we laid a big steaming turd on the carpet at home in our 1 playoff game.

The team with *everything* going our way just wasn't that good. We've been playing in a trash division for years, and it's been masking how mediocre the team truly is. Last year, our 12-5 masked a 6-5 outside the NFC Least.

We aren't that good. We're old and running out of gas with key contracts.

It's the End of the Landry Era vibe. All we need is another NFL Strike, with the Scab Boys losing to a team of couch surfers.

I really enjoyed the 1-15 season.

A bunch of young guys trying hard and getting better, instead of a bunch of old guys phoning it in and getting worse.

I guarantee Jimmy Johnson and the players didn't enjoy it one bit.. It's one thing to have a young team that is trying to learn and improve, but to lose every game can be extremely discouraging and shake the confidence of a lot of the younger guys. Thank goodness for their undying trust and belief in Jimmy Johnson, which helped them to persevere, grow and eventually win.

I apologize for my views, but that's the way I think after hearing it all of my life.....I mean no offense.
Never apologize for your views, if its the way you see it than express it for the rest to see.
