Sorry - it came across as too sarcastic. I appreciate when people spend the time on "I have to get this off my chest" type posts like that one. That's all. Carry on with the good work.

I do have a tendency to be long-winded. :)
Look, I hope I'm wrong. And I'm sorry to say this (maybe because I've been a fan such a long time), but I don't see this season getting any better - just based on the patterns I see. Oh, we'll win a game here and there, and the optimists (nothing wrong with being an optimist because we need their unbridled enthusiasm and idealism) will see that as a step in the right direction. But I believe we'll succumb to the same dynamics that have plaqued this franchises since the late 90s.

Again, I'll be more than happy to eat my words. But I anticipate starving. :(

Hard to evaluate anything the way the game unfolded. Stay tuned.

But that's what many people say all the time. There's a reason these games "unfold" in losses for the Cowboys and wins for the other team.
At some point, we have to examine why things are unfolding like this for us. Maybe I'm spoiled, but I remember those 90s Cowboys. They hardly ever committed penalties or turnovers.
It's a mentality - whether through coaching or the players we have. And this current bunch just isn't getting it, i.e., not getting good coaching or don't really understand or have the competency not to commit boneheaded mistakes.

Dude, bar none, you are one of my favorite posters on here. Absolutely one of my top 5.
But I gotta be honest, how you are finding 10 wins for this team baffles me.

My crystal ball sees us taking the division wit a 4-2 or 5-1 record. That leaves our top 5 offense and new and improved defense who will get tons of respect starting now... to a 6-4 or 5-5 mark versus the rest of the league.

Warning: this kind of prediction should be made by seasoned posters only and should not be tried at home. But I stand by it .

Last year, I thought 11 wins coming in, and I was obviously wrong.

This year, this felt like six wins to me heading into Oxnard, but looked every bit of 4-12 as camp broke.

As for shooting themselves in the foot, burying themselves early in games, out-thinking themselves, and sub-par execution... pretty much what we have come to expect.

I am sorry, but this didn't just arrive.

How about this one: My last Cocker Spaniel was named Dallas. My current Cocker is named Cowboy.
I just see the mailman, a Steelers fan of all things. He says to me..."Wow. Just wow. I was thinking of you yesterday. But I was thinking more of your poor dog. I know he is only 3 yrs old, but never in his life will the team he's named after win a Super Bowl. No Chance".

LOL Those Steeler fans can be obnoxious.

funny mailman. Time to punch that delivery boy smack in the mouth.

I've been realistic for a while now. It's been in front of us and some refuse to see it. We're not a passing team first. This is not 2007 and the strength of this team has been running but powers that be want to force down our throats that since this is a passing league then we have to be a passing team. Romo and Witten aren't the catalysts that will get us to the promise land, Murray and Dez are. Yet we still can't get Dez the rock or Murray enough carries (especially within the 5 yr line) to be successful.

As someone mentioned, all I needed to see was a pass within the 5 to know things are the same or to see.the play clock always run to 1 before a snap to know. Nothing has changed since Garrett, Romo and Wade Wilson teamed up. They are who they are, and that's whatever Jerry wants them to be.

2014 is not the year to think we will somehow become a miraculous elite squad. We have nothing on defense, nothing. SF did whatever they wanted to do vs that defense when it mattered. When Jerry decides to get serious and bring in some real talent on the DLINE and at safety then we will be onto something. Until then, expect Romo to drop back far too much and the defense to get gashed to the tune of 7-9.

If they want to turn this around, run the ball and put the game on the shoulders of Murray and that OLine, point blank period!

The fact that cowboys aren't any good is not a surprise. But how bad they are may have surprised some fans.
This includes me. How about you?

Not at all....I said 4-12 before the season and was laughed at by many on this board. I didn't see anything yesterday to change my mind. However, I'm not having a "I told you so" moment right now.

Just feel bummed and sad for all the longtime fans of this once proud franchise. JJ has really bungled things in a huge way. Nothing has changed...he needs to get a GM and turn the day to day operation over to someone who knows wth they are doing.

LOL, .. it's Ground Hog day, all over again.

How many times have we seen some variation of this? The day after a game, .. what happened?

It is so sad it has become comical that we all still come on here and say the same things over and over.

Time and time again. Game after game, .. year after year, season after season down the drain.

This must be what an addiction feels like, .. I want to quit watching, .. to quit caring about this stupid football team, ... I should but I can't.

This is a 1 day old myth IMHO. Everyone seems positive on the defense today, however, I'm not sold at this point:
  • Colin Kaepernick is currently the #1 ranked passer in the NFL with a 125.5 QB rating. He completed 70% of his passes yesterday and averaged 8.7 YPA.
  • Defense forced 0 turnovers
  • Defense only had 1 sack and beyond that just <ok> general pass rush
  • Defense allowed 5.0 ypc against Gore/Hyde. 5.0 ypc will get you killed in this league
  • Pass defense looks exactly the same as it did last year -- which shouldn't be surprising -- it's the same guys as 2013
  • The lack of cover safeties stands out like a sore thumb
Hope I am wrong about this -- however, from my viewpoint the Cowboys pass defense was terrible, the rush defense was bad (based on the Gore/Hyde's 5.0 ypc), the defense was unable to force a turnover, and the pass rush was subpar.

I feel the same way. Honestly, that 3 play 73 yard Niner drive was so simple, I do wonder had the score been different and Romo been capable, if the Niners could have just scored at will. Not sure we learned alot about the defense with the early turnovers and the complexion of that game.

Romo has bad games, this is nothing new. He'll bounce back and play better the next game. The next 2 opponents are perfect for Romo to shine against. Then everyone will remember how good he can be. I'm not suggesting we are a playoff team, the Cowboys are clearly a bad team but I still think they can have a decent season.

IF you think that many games will unfold where you're down 21-3 and have possessed the ball 9 minutes to just under 2 minutes for your opposition I don't think you're being very honest.

Also this team was top 10 last year in turnover margin. So we can credit the coaches for that right?

Outliers and collapses are hallmarks of Garrett-run teams, we set multiple records for losses where losses statistically shouldn't occur over the past few seasons, and we set some sort of team record yesterday for opening day incompetence. That's SOP for Garrett, expect disaster.

Some of us tried to warn against excessive optimism, but as we all know, you cant do that on here.

If your surprised by how bad we were, your just a good homer fan, nothing wrong with that, even us who tempered the expectations with a dose of "been there, heard that before, lets wait and see" were a little taken aback by how bad we were, but we knew we weren't even close to a playoff team. But remember the "Been there heard that before" crowd are good homer fans just already disillusioned with this team. Give it time, you will get there too. You can only take so many losing seasons before you say screw it, we suck.

It comes with the territory. Surprised or not, this is your 2014 version of the Dallas Cowboys.

Huh? I'm interpreting your comment based on the finished product, i.e., a 28-17 loss. And I'm saying there's a reason why these games unfold the way they do. There's a reason we always seem to lose these games. I really don't know what you mean by you think I'm not being honest. I think I'm being more than honest.

Also this team was top 10 last year in turnover margin. So we can credit the coaches for that right?

And we still finished 8-8 and out of the playoffs. Who cares if we were top 10 in TM? If we can't take advantage of that, then something's wrong. Something's very wrong with getting more turnovers and not being able to win games. Why is that?
