Heath's instincts are light years better than Jones. I would seriously consider moving Jones back to corner

Yeah Byron let me down. Still have faith in him but can't blindly defend him anymore.

Still reeling. What a way to lose. Argh

I don't think Jones is a bad player. He actually breaks up a fair amount of passes. But there are so many moments where he is chasing

Would it kill this team to actually draft or sign a real safety? And not a CB convert or small school guy?

Our defense was not as bad as their walking wounded. We knew going into this game that we were going to need to score a lot of points. Due to our slow start, we did not.

The packers put up 38 points on the Giants last week. The Falcons put up 36 points on Seattle.

NFL playoff football is big boy football. The margin of error is miniscule. You simply don't have the luxury to start a game 21-3. You don't have the luxury to be so full of hubris that you think you are going to be the first franchise in history to win a SB with a rookie QB.

It is because no one turns their heads! If Lee would have just swiveled his head on that TD, it is an easy INT.....a knockdown at least.

I was always taught to watch the receivers eyes and arms....when those change, the ball is almost there.
so you were susceptible to a double move. I'm going to fake the ball is coming in my first break, then leave you in the dust as you turn for the ball.

Had we won the game, which may have been the result if Heath's second INT held up or if Dak's pass to Dez breaking open over the middle not been batted down at the line before our final FG, the Packers would be having the same conversations. "Man, our defense sucks; they can't hold a lead in fourth quarter; we have the greatest QB in the league and still lose."

That's football. Our awful defense allowed only one TD and two FGs in the final 37 minutes and 23 seconds, getting enough stops to allow a great comeback.
  1. Rodgers ripped us a new one early; we adjusted; B.Jones got lost on the final pass after DE and Durant lost contain.
  2. We need improvements on defense, but GB and Rodgers proved all Year and in both playoff games that pass rush doesn't stop him.
  3. We need another speed rusher, but we also must get better and deeper at CB to defeat teams like GB that can run out 5 receivers and TEs that can't be covered by LBs and safeties.

Said it many times, Defense wins championships, The defense is bad, especially the defensive line, there's no difference makers there...The defense has one star, Sean Lee, that's it!

Go check the stat sheet and see how poorly the front 4 performed.

Unfortunately they allowed the opposition to drive for the winning score at the end of the game which if you've been watching for the last 10+ years is their MO (that and not getting enough turnovers).

3rd and 20 and they allow a pass of 36 yards to get the Packers into field goal range.

Same as it ever was.

Especially when your opponent is playing nearly flawless. I mean Arod fumbled a snap / handoff that his running back didn't even see, and still it went for chunk yardage...like, how?

Inspired comeback though. Frustrating for what could have been bug man. Toe to toe in what was one of the best qb ing displays I can remember.

Don't know why Heath ever became our whipping boy.

Somebody HAS to be the whipping boy. Sometimes more than one player.

Used to have designated Whipping Boy(s) spots and designated Trade player spots but nobody has filled in designated Dex spot as the must go to trade player.

I'll also add that selling out on defense in free agency and the draft isn't the answer, especially drafting at #28. Very unlikely to find a great pass rusher there. We must find another quality WR to play opposite Dez; we must find a pass catching TE who can run...so many teams have these guys now, guys you can't cover with a LB yet too big for most DBs. And we must improve/groom another RT, possibly Green if healthy, but the OTs coming out this year are really good, but most, including Bama's LT are considered as better RTs. That could actually play into our hands at the bottom of round one.

They are not using him correctly either though. We have seen over and over he is not consistent enough in man coverage. He should be back there playing deep instead of Church, especially this week with all 4 corners available.

Ball hawking cannot be coached. You either have it or don't. Marcus Peters is a great example. He intercepted the ball a lot in college and now he is doing it in the pros. We don't have any ball hawks!

I'm convinced he should get more playing time on defense.

1. He's one of the few that actually catches the football
2. He has good closing speed
3. Decent hitter too.

Sure...Rodgers and Cook made the play....Jones and the contain crapped the bed....no question. But you can have a great offense and mediocre defense or a great defense and a mediocre offense. Or you can get caught in between on both sides of the ball...it's almost impossible to be great on both sides due to the cap. GB, Atlanta, and Dallas all have the offense with so-so defense. NY and Seattle had the great defense and so-so offense.

What's the difference?

Atlanta's offense was near perfect and defeated Seattle.
GBs offense was unstoppable while NYs great defense and so-so offense both underperformed.
GBs offense was unstoppable again and overcame their defense because our offense underperformed early and got behind...last team with the ball won.

It's easy to blame our defense, but 13 points by our offense in the first half matched GBs 13 points in the second half. That's why we were tied. The game was decided on one play....that pass from Rodgers to his TE deep on the sideline.

Heath actually showed up,Jones on the other hand was out there in the wilderness.I still don't understand that 1st round selection.
