This TO fella is more powerful than i previously thought:rolleyes:

Sorry if this was posted before but this little write up on bloggingtheboys is pretty spot on. It's part of a larger piece

I will not accuse Owens of spreading such a rumor. At the very least, there would need to be a great deal more evidence. For now, I'm going to choose believe Owens did nothing of the sort.

But I will say this... the whole "how much power can one man have" line doesn't resonate when it comes to race. If one or two prominent players were to place that tag on a coach, it would be extremely damaging. Extremely damaging. So in that sense, one or two players could have enormous power.

I checked the 103.3 website, and unfortunately they didn't podcast it.

Now like David said, Czar is a very respected old-school journalist, not some new-school blogger who throws crap against the wall. It sounded like he got all this from the St. Louis people, either media or team, because that's where the fan reaction part of the story came in. Who knows what part of the grapevine the St. Louis people got it from -- he didn't really say.

I don't think 90% of the people reading that article would make the illogical jump from "There is a perception that Garrett can't coach black players" To To called Garrett a "racist."

If they did, then those people fell out of a stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down.

:lmao: :lmao2: True.

Czarnecki... more than 20 years covering pro football, maybe more than 30 years. Long, long time.

Which is why none of this makes any sense.

It's too bad there wasn't some recording of the interview to hear this in context as well. But it wouldn't be the first time a "respected" journalist made up a story just to get some attention.

See Dan Rather.

In tough economic times even the best of journalists stray a little to the dark side to keep those dollars rolling in.

See post #116 or how this "makes sense."

It sounds like not only did he stray but jumped the "L" train and got off on "No credibility avenue."

:lmao2: Indeed it does.

I was saying it didn't make sense from a journalistic perspective.

And what's with the  ?

I very seriously doubt Czarnecki made anything up. But that's not the same as saying I think Owens had even the slightest bit of guilt in it. What's more likely is this, I suspect: Someone in the whole daisy chain of the Rams job search and decision offered it to Czarnecki as a reason. It could be that the "someone" did so to further an agenda that had little to do with Owens. The Rams thing was so bizarre there at the end, it's very easy for me to believe there was some CYA happening. Owens and Garrett might have caught the shrapnel. It's possible the thing originally had more to do with the Rams than with the Cowboys.

That's a very plausible scenario. And I can see it. But I still dont see how the logical person can make the leap to "T.O said Garrett is a racist."

That's my whole point in this.

See Dan Rather.

Remember, though, that Rather was immediately and fiercely contradicted and discredited. The thing didn't just slide by without having ramifications on his career. Rather, it was the end of Rather.

I can see how someone could interpet the article that way. I just suspect someone planted a story out there for other reasons, and the Owens/Garrett thing was an easy target. I'd have to see much, much more than this to believe Owens called Garrett a racist.

Well this is just starting as well.

Plus it's not as serious as what Rather lied about.

Further, it sounds more like people are reading something into a story by Czar than what he was reporting.

They seem to be conjuring this up to fit the "Cut T.O." agenda, IMO.

Agreed.

You're hung up on a tertiary point. Who actually believes that TO called Garrett a racist? The point is that the team is divided: one faction is white: Romo (who I know is of Mexican descent, but who for all intents and purposes is treated as "white") and Witten the other is TO and his defenders (Crayton, RW11, Newman) who are all black. The perception, who cares what the truth is, is that Garrett has favored Romo and Witten. Its not that far of a leap to see how that perception worked to cost Garrett a job as a head coach (although that may not be what happened at all). Makes perfect sense. And i think that was the point of the original article. Nobody said TO actually called Garrett a racist. He didn't have to. The situation--as media driven as it may be--could have been enough to cost Garrett a job.
