RECAP: Czarkecki on GAC *Merge*

I said a while back on this board that on teams with both blacks and whites, there's going to be a racial component. That goes without saying. Blacks feel more comfortable with blacks just as whites feel more comfortable with whites.

That's not racism. That's homogeneity.

However, that can blossom into racism or negative racial overtones if players/teams aren't careful.

It is not out of the ordinary, and perfectly within the realms of human nature, for black players to perceive that white players are being treated better or are getting the benefit of the doubt because they are white.

I've seen it happen time and time again on sports team (those I've been associated with) and in group dynamics, whether work, school etc.

Some people who believe race and racism is all but gone refuse to acknowledge this dynamic at work. But black players know it exists.

Again, this is not to suggest that Garrett is a racist. But perceptions equal reality and sometimes people are blind to their biases.

You have to be careful reporting stuff such as this because it can ruin Garrett's reputation. But having said that, I don't doubt there is a perception of racial favoritism by T.O. and some other black players on the squad.

it happened in Dallas when Emmitt Smith was an impending free agent, can't remember what year, and Jerry extended Troy 1st, even though he had a couple of years or so remaining on his deal

They said the locker room had serious racial issues.

inman roshi posted exactly what they said so you can probably find it somewhere.

This team is doomed if this is true about the race aspect. Jason Garrett isn't a racist. Who painted this picture?

This team is headed for last place in the East. They have a lame duck head coach. They have an offensive coordinator who probably wants out. They have a soon to be 36 year old WR, who can't beat bracket coverage or the top cornerbacks, running their locker room and dividing the team against one another. If Jerry Jones doesn't icut Owens, he will get 140-150 passes directed at him, and he never beat bracket coverage after the Packers shut him down. We have very young players looking at what Owens gets away with and how he acts.

Can you see Owens being quiet when he thinks the team revolves around him? The numbers say he is in decline.

It's going to blow, Jerry. Wake up.

I don't think there's anything wrong with this team that winning won't solve. 2008 was the first season that Garrett had to handle both running and passing games, and he had his hands full. I'm still not sure he has a feel for the running game at all.

Maybe there's some old run coach out there we could bring in to help?

Also happened when Troy restructured his contract to sign Deion only to have Deion accuse him of being racist b/c Aikman, Moose, and a Novacek used to buddy up. Guess Troy wasn't down with Prime Time and doing blow off strippers, but had a spectacular relationship with Michael Irvin all the same. Its more of a crutch than it is a credible accusation. Our guys are just out of excuses for coming up short, so you have pety stuff like this come from a weak team.

Felix Jones is going to cure a lot of ills, that kinda gamebreaking speed and vision is going to put a lot of points on the board and force teams to be careful blitzing Tony so often.

This is news to me.

Wouldn't mind reading IR's recap. When did he post it?

I've been worried about the reacism issue from the beginning of this entire ordeal. It's WAY too obvious to not be in play.

this team has so many problems not even related to the game of football it's pathetic.

Again does anyone actually read what is written??

It shocks me to read 3 pages of absolute crap.

Where exactly did T.O. accuse Garrett of racism or of not handling black players????

Are we supposed to believe he took out an ad in St. Louis and made fans so aware they called in to boycott Garrett??

This is just stupid.

Galloway has been bashing "Eldo" since day so it is no surprise he throws all integrity out the window when discxussing T.O. with Czar but where on earth is any evidence any of this has any connection to T.O.???

And did we not hear Tony Romo say the offense needed to change??? He musta forgot he was on the "white" team I guess....

BTW, every team I have ever seen has a majority of its white players hang together and the majority of its black players hang together. Never were any racial discord that can I can recall on those teams it was just which parties we went to and what music we listened to mostly.

Since Romo's half Mexican, he's allowed to go back and forth between the two sides. :)

The racism accusation has to be pretty well sourced for that word to get out. Czarnecki heard it was being whispered from Howie Long (whose son of course was the #2 overall pick there last year and who is close to the Rams situation) and then he checked it out some more. Czar thinks the locker room seems to be Garrett, Romo, and Witten vs. the rest. (Of course, no one on the radio show thinks Garrett is racist, and the accusation is absurd. But the rumors were out there.)

Czar thinks Devaney wanted to hire Garrett but president (part-owner?) John Shaw decided on Spagnuolo. Thinks the public perception we read about and the part above influenced the decision.

Some owners have told Czarnecki that Garrett came off in interviews as almost too smart, too polished, too self-confident.

Not sure if the Cowboys will cut TO, but the pattern emerging seems to be just like that in Philly. Wonders if the possible damaging of Garrett's reputation will sway Jerry to make a move.

The Cowboys have to be doubting Romo somewhat, only because he played so poorly down the stretch.

Galloway now reads from somewhere that Pioli is rumored to be close to a deal with Mike Shanahan at KC. Czar says Shanny told him that he was going to sit out this year unless he found a great situation, so Czar is doubtful about that story. (KC of course is awful and has no QB.)

I have read his book. I'm not a TO fan, but I have never read or heard any instance where Owens has played the race card or even brought up race in regard to anything. I'll give him that. I doubt he started it.

As far as Romo goes, I think he will be fine. But, if we have doubts, then we should sign or trade for a young reclaimation project to back him up; Beck, Grossman, Simms, Losman to name a few.

No doubt Felix's athleticism makes the play calling less important, but injuries happen. We'll still need to run more to keep defenses honest. I liked what Garrett did with Barber running the ball in Washington--after an extra week to prepare. It could be that our OC had too much on his plate this past season.

Those are good qualities, but maybe the concern is would he be so smart that he wouldn't be open to feedback.
