Receive. Proceed to march down the field eating up half the quarter. Come out for the second half with "sneak attack" onsides. Control the clock. DOMINATE!!

Spagnola thinks they should receive. So of course to defer is the right choice

This would be the worst possible thing they could do. Why would you want to give the Saints the ball to start the game AND to open the second half? If you use your choice and choose to kick, they still get the choice to open the second half and would obviously elect to receive.

You do not elect to kick. You defer, and make them burn their choice by taking the ball, and giving you the choice in the second half.
Thanks for clarifying........Oye

defer our D starts fast nearly every game, its the offense that has to match that energy, titans game is an example...they comeout with big time energy but the offense takes it away..

Say Dallas wins the toss .Do you let NO score 7 first or give yourself a chance to take the lead from jump?

Defer.

If we're lucky enough to be ahead at the half, don't give Brees another drive where he knows he has to score.

I like deferring generally for that reason.

But I especially like deferring in big marquee games. Players come out a little geeked up. Favors the defense.
