Recognizing need and addressing it in ways that translate to a better team are not easy to achieve.
This organization is led by a GM that qualified for the job with his checkbook, so...there’s always that to contend with and overcome when trying to build a quality organization and roster.
IMO, the biggest need this team always seems to be facing is clearly identifying what it is trying to become, and how far they have come in achieving that. Clearly, they think we are close, but this FO always seems to have a sunny disposition about the team regardless of circumstances.
The best, most consistent teams have a philosophy of what kind of team they plan to build and that makes drafting and FA decisions easier. (See NE, Pitts, Sea, and GB) And it’s also important to know the health of your culture and chemistry and find players that fit into your culture and even strengthen it.
