I don't understand the play calling at all; we can't
Convert any third and mediums. It's so frustrating, this may end up costing us in the playoffs. Thoughts?

I think we use too much shotgun and pass too much on 1st and 2nd down inside the red zone. Witten's biggest weakness is probably not being able to fake that he is blocking and then release out for the pass. He just doesn't do it well and that hurts on first and 2nd down. Essentially, the best way to figure out 3rd and medium lengths is to not get into 3rd and medium distance to go. Although I'm not really worried about it. We've scored a lot of points this season and when we have had issues on offense this season, red zone offense has been lower on the list of priorities.

Penalties hurt the team.

If this team didn't have the penalties they had last night this game is a blowout and over at the half.

It's bc Dak can't complete medium or long passes unless it's playaction and the receiver is wide open

We have to avoid the Giants.

If the Giants and Commanders are getting wild card spots the Cowboys have to face 1 of those teams in the divisional round unless they both lose their wild card game.

It's highly likely we're getting a round 3 with one of them.

It's the penalties. We are killing ourselves and getting pushed back from our own mistakes. I think we would have put up 40+ if we didn't get in our own way. The Bucs defense couldn't do anything to stop us.

But that's the age-old story of football. FGs in the redzone= loss. TDs in red zone= win.

He can he just simply does not take any chances. Especially after NY. He said in his pc last night I was not going to take chances with the ball. Its a very strict way to play and requires touchdowns and last night because we kicked field goals.

I will say on the 2nd and 17 first play of the fourth quarter he threw a little drag route to zeke for about 8 yards and he had Dez bryant in man to man and was being pressed and Dez won off the line of scrimmage and put his hand up. It was an easy pitch and catch Touchdown but Dak does simply not look down the field.

Its who he is. He is going to play this style and I think garrett likes this style so its a good fit. Its hard to watch sometimes though because there are guys running free in the secondary. There was another play where he overthrew a corner route to dez where they ran a high low and he had beasley wide open and didn't throw it.

I am curious to see the all 22 tomorrow for that 2nd and 17 though, I saw dez throw his hand up and then he looked pretty upset the ball wasnt thrown.

We all know its going to be NY. It has to be. They are going to get the ultimate shot of redemption. Right now with the setup I could see Atlanta beating washington and then NY beating detroit and coming to Dallas.

the only kink there is If we beat detroit I don't think they win the division which means the giants will have to play at lambeau.

Either way it feels like its in the universe somewhere the Giants and Cowboys are going to play round 3.

Setting up for an NFC East foe (Wash/NYG) or NFC North rematch (Det/Gbay) in the divisional round.

Zebras always seem to be our enemy.

Last night looked like previous Cowboy teams that dominate but find ways to lose with tipped passes for TD's, penalties, and bad play calls.

The playcalling was bizarre at times (for the third week in a row), but the constant penalties from the oline were far more egregious and costly.

I remember a 2nd and 18 where he dumped immediately four yards on his first read...leaving himself a 3rd and 14, which is trouble. I think in such situations, it might be better to get a bit more on second down. He's not going to push like Romo. Pros and cons to that. In 2014, Romo was 34/9 td/int over 15 games and likely would have had maybe a couple of more tds if he had played the Arizona game. But what's more is that the Dallas offense was a machine in December that year...avg 41 ppg, with an avg winning margin of 21 ppg over the 4-0 stretch. Currently, the games are much closer, with a 4 ppg avg winning margin and about 16 ppg for December so far. I just think a conservative minded head coach, conservative QB and pass-happy OC can make for some challenges going forward. The "jet sweep" cuteness definitely needs to be expunged from the offense. Less trickeration and more smash-mouth...especially on 3rd and 2. In the nineties it was Load Left and E. Smith for the win. I will NEVER totally trust Linehan with the Dallas running game...Nope.

What about giving Escobar more opportunities in the red zone,

But that makes too much sense. We need to get cute and call fade patterns, double reverses and the Lucky Whitehead middle school play. For the sake of "Catching them off guard".

Linehan makes you scratch your head so often. Like Zeke only getting 7 carries in the 2nd half up until that final drive. And this was a close game. Not a blowout where he could afford a lot of breaks. 2nd week in a row we have went away from Zeke, when he's the main reason we are in this position.
