Redzone concern?

Not really. Cowboys lost more than half of their RZ pass offense (Dez and Witten) and it's putting the heat on Zeke.

Success Rate
Elliott's runs inside 10-yd line
2018 31.6% (6 of 19)
2017 65.0% (13 of 20)
2016 66.7% (16 of 24)

We need a receiving threat to open that up again.
We need to have the double threat, obviously.

Just seems Dak doesn't process the reads quick enough for the RZ.
Whatever he was processing the last two years was quick enough to rank us 3rd and 6th. Of course, he was doing it with a TE who could both run block and get open.

Your avatar is one of my all-time favorite movie characters.

Dak just doesn't see guys getting open untill they are open and by then the windows is closing fast. It's harder in the red zone esp with an average OL and inconsistent blocking from the TE position. Dak is better at throwing bullets than over defenders like the back shoulder fade. Add that our best receivers are a tad smaller than most would like and it all adds up to being really difficult in these tight spaces.

Play calling, run the ball, lack of proven red zone go-to guys...

I have no answers, but it’s leaving a lot of points on the field, and helps in creating the environment leading to these crazy close game scenarios. I think it’s Dak myself. I don’t think he’s comfortable, nor has full confidence in red zones, either his or the opponents in those situations. I don’t know why that is,but he’s really struggling to find his game there. He hasn’t developed a end zone report with anyone, and that’s not a usual issue to still be having when playing this late in the season. If he ever does though, even with all the sacks and junk,he will have much more effective QB outings and increased wins.

Wrong number, put in a number 9 pic (pun intended) also.

Romo threw 15 INTs from 2006-2016 (his career) between the 1-19yd line (red zone).

So you're judging him for 1.5 INTs per season in the red zone. Neat.

Exactly

The Cowboys that won the SB always had a good plays up their sleeves in the redzone and executed them well. What Im seeing now is a severe lack of creativity in the redzone and very poor execution..

Throwback to the really dark times.
Yep. Jerruh grew old ten times from 2001-2005.you know he was desperate to give Ryan Leaf a chance. That’s why he’s so greateful and loyal for Dak(Romo before him ).thise were some really sad years to be a cowboy fan. I used to look forward to bye weeks

What needs to change? It seems they're knowing Zeke and/or Dak will run it in. It seems we can't throw a TD in the RZ.

I think we need some bigger TE packages and get them involved. Your thoughts?

It seems to me that we stop handing the ball to Zeke inside the 5 yard line. No idea why. It's not the first time. Anybody remember the game against the Packers to end the dream season in 2016? Like first and goal from the 3 yard line and no Zeke but 3 passing attempts including 2 to Witten and all incompletions for one reason or another. I don't think "bigger TE packages" is the answer. I do think handing the ball off to Zeke more in those situations is.

What does our red zone woes in 2018 have in common with the last Packer game in 2016? Same OC. Also consider that our O-line is not as strong as that 2016 line. I remember a stretch between 2011 and 2013 where our red zone production was not good. Then we drafted a Demarco Murray and built a 5 star O-line which changed everything. IMO, it's play calling in the red zone and not being 100% reliant on the O-line to get it done. What do I know

So what you're saying is we need a better coach? It seemed we had nothing original it there. Very transparent. Defenses are lined up anticipating exactly what we're doing.

Yeah but they lined up on a 4'th and 1 in OT surely knowing what we were going to do, run Zeke or sneak and they couldn't stop it. You're right, to go far in the playoffs we have to score 7 not 3 inside the RZ. Is it partly on play calling yes. Also partly on a beat up O-line and execution. I don't know man. Seems like the best weapon we have in the RZ is Dak and Zeke's legs

100%, the eagles and saints should not have been that close. 455 vs the eagles to win in OT??

Yep, should have been a blow out with that time of possession but you know these division games, they rarely are blow outs. Gotta fix it, no doubt about that. Good post Cydios
