he is tops among TEs in targets and catches. he is having a pretty good season and catch rate. but Y/C are pretty low and as I have watched over the past few weeks, it kind of reminds me of NE with Welker. now before you all go into a tizzy, I am not making a 1-1 comparison. so calm down before you go off and I am sure somebody will most probably do and make it into a Dak thing

NE used Welker and those short quick passes like an extension of their running game, like a long hand off. that's what it feels like on a lot of Ferguson catches, he is catching in the flat, coming across the formation or going to the sides and making a few yards at a time, not just going down field and finding an open seam like a typical TE. it feels like a long handoff and he has had some success just getting 5-7 yards per pop. to me, nothing wrong with that, since he is fairly athletic and has some run after catch ability. he is a tough match up coming across like that for a LB. I have seen teams throw to the RB in the flat but we have never been much good in that, although Williams did score one on the last TD against Jets. it was a nice sight to see that Schotty is pulling all kinds of plays from his bag.

I am not as worried about Fergi and his yardage stat, but if he continues this way, its a problem for teams, which also allows us to just chip away and keep drives alive. I am 1000% sure somebody will make this into a Dak thing and he is dumping off and make a whole thing about it. just watch

What really ticks me off is those dump offs to Ferg on 3rd down short of the first down maker.

It really makes NO sense. Anger doesn't need the extra 4-5 yards because his kicks are short.

Send Ferg up the field so he can make a first down.

I don't understand the angst over the short yardage plays to the TE.

Establishing the TE as regular option is a good thing. Even if it's predominantly short yardage. It's not like defenses can write him off because it's going to be a short pass. They have to pay serious attention to him which only helps everything else the offense wants to do.

Fergie is on pace to shatter the record for most catches in a season without 1,000 yards receiving.

He’s on pace to beat it by dang near 30 catches.

Dak has always been the type of QB that likes to throw between the hash marks. As he matures he is starting to see and throw outside the hash marks and sideline routes. In my opinion, that is a marker in his maturation as a QB. He diagnoses defenses better and works through his progressions quicker. He appears to be leading WR's better even though it is still a weak point in his game.

yeah, those I don't like either, but on 1st or 2nd down, it gets a few yards and shortens the distance.

and not only that, I have seen others like WRs who run short of first down marker....that's lack of awareness of where you are on the field.

so? what's your point? or did someone pee in your coffee this morning?

there is more to it than that, but I won't bother. it goes over your head anyways.

I get that. You also have to factor in how that fits into the bigger picture. Does that established threat to the TE help to set up the top ten rushing offense? Does it command some attention that would otherwise be available to use against other receivers?

I'd love to see Ferg out there Gronking it up as much as anyone but it's hard for me to knock the guy who is solidly contributing to what is, as of now, a pretty good looking offense.

He had 13 catches against the Bears.

We scored 14 points.

It really doesn’t mean much if you’re not picking up yardage. Teams will account for him regardless because he’s a TE. TEs aren’t ignored in this league.

If we played the Giants or Jets every week then sure, but we don’t.

Never understood this, they use to do Jason Witten the same, 3rd and 7 and it hit for for 4 yards and then expect him to Barry Sanders and Gale Sayers a couple of defenders.

Fergy's not nearly the YAC threat that Welker was. AFAIK, Welker still owns the NCAA record for most career punt return yardage.

Ferguson's just become a catch-and-fall guy after his injury. Throwing to him is like a long handoff to a RB with dead legs.

Ferguson is being asked to chip a DE on a regular bases, which will limit his passing tree.

This is what people don’t see. They paid Ferg to get CTE.

THE SHEER AMOUNT of blocked and going head first into a DE’s knees has made the protection better. They paid him to put his body on the line while continuing to be a pass catching threat.

This is how schotty ‘builds’ culture - play like x get rewarded

It’s all about the offense consistently pushing the ball. This offense isn’t beating itself like it typically does.

I think we're using Ferguson as a quick option/outlet for Prescott, so that he can get the ball out of his hands. More downfield stuff with the receivers and checkdowns to the tight end. Dak seems to be under orders in this scheme to take the checkdown if he doesn't like what he sees immediately.
