Remember all the Eli Manning, Drew Henson comparisons last year? LOL

You don't invest the time and money into a player like Henson just to trade them away.

And you don't draft quarterbacks in the first round just to trade them either.

You guys are classic Maddenites.

The Packers and Ron Wolf made a living out of drafting a QB every year and grooming them to trade (Brunell, Brooks, Hasselbeck). The Patriots took Matt Cassel this year and appear to be grooming him to trade as well. We took Steve Walsh with a first round supplemental choice when we already had Aikman. It is not a "Madden" idea at all, it is actually pretty smart.

Our problem is that we don't have a young QB who is proven for the future and we are stuck in planning mode.

And if he ends up as #3 will the apologists continue to make excuses? Call he a hater if you want, I was against this signing when it happened but I said then I hoped to have been proven wrong since we all would win then.

Fact is, Henson is going to have to show something sometime soon, not this year but next. And until then I'm saying he's nothing but a project at best, forget being a great QB - I'm doubtful he'll last long enough to leave on his terms.

And if he turns out to be another Hutch I ask Jerry to please stop being cute and draft a QB the normal route.

I find it terribly amusing that passions are stirring still about this.

You would think it would be all tired out by now.

Brother, spoon fed by an NFL father has nothing to do with any of this. If you had been forced to drudge your career on a horrible Saints team when you had the talent to lead a team to the Super Bowl, you'd probably look out for you kids too. Just because his kids are in the NFL with million dollar salaries, and your kids are anonymous doesn't make it any different. A father is a father.

Eli is the better talent. Accept it and move on. I think it's safe to say that if Henson was on his way to franchise QB stardom in the same mold as Aikman or Staubach, that he wouldn't lose his backup job to an undrafted free agent rookie who only has one more year of experience in the pros.

Show me your QB ratings all ya want. That has to be one of the most useless stats in all of pro sports. And the fact is that Eli progressed, and Henson regressed, that's what 1st round QBs hopefully do. You draft a bonafide starter instead of a project and your odds go up.

Face it folks, Henson being demoted does not look good for his future. No one , including me, says he has to be the starter now, but we can expect him to get better in the depth charts.

Most important, this is not a dig on Henson, this is a dig on Jones and Parcells who continue to draft projects. Let's grab a 1st rounder please. Yes, 1st rounders can bust, but man oh man, do they have a hell of a better chance of succeeding than these fellas who spent years in the minor leagues.
You're comparing apples to oranges my man. Plain and simple.
And if this wasn't a dig on Henson you would have said that a lot sooner in your post. Your comparing a 7th round pick to a #1 one overall pick in the draft. Neither of which has played 1 FULL SEASON. HELLO!!!

And look at where the Packers are now... With very little talent on their team, and without a proven quarterback to replace favre, who could easily retire at the end of the year...

Cassel was drafted in the 7th round

We drafted Walsh because he was Jimmy Johnsons quarterback...

Was watching some tape of the Giants/Chargers game my buddy taped, and man did Eli look nice! Kid came back from almost a 21 point deficit allowed by his defense, and was eventually shut down in the second half, but just the fact that he was able to pull the team back into contention with no turnovers was impressive. Almost 400 yards, 0 interceptions, and 2 touchdowns in a game in which he was forced to play catch-up ball almost all 4 quarters. All in front of a hostile crowd that would crucify the kid if they had a chance. I hope we don't have 2 franchise QBs in the NFC East now. I'm sure Manning will have his "learning games" but dude is improving at the same pace someone like Aikman did.

Remember the stat junkies throwing up Henson and Manning's numbers last year? They said Manning was getting too much hype. Meanwhile, Henson is struggling to be the #3 QB on this team, while Manning is growing up fast.

*cough* Leinart! *cough* Leinart! Memo to Jerry and Bill: Grab a legit 1st round QB, no more projects!

Yep.

I agree with you 100%. Saw that game and it is only a matter of time before this guy jumps into a league close to his brother.

First round talent hits at a far greater % than your 6th round, 5th round, 9 and 10th round analogies. For every 1 hit there are hundreds of failures.

First Round?

Earl Morall
Len Dawson
John Brodie
Joe Namath
Bob Griese
Terry Bradshaw
Jim Plunkett
Dan Marino
Jim Kelly
John Elway
Steve Young
Troy Aikman
Drew Bledsoe
Peyton Manning
Donovan Mcnabb
Peyton Manning

You want a franchise QB??? - Odds are you will need to get him in the 1st round.

Sidenote to the Dilfer reference upfront. Dilfer was a top 10 first round pick - Believe 6th overall.

agree. Gotta take the risk to get the reward. Keep chancing it with baseball players, lower round picks, and whoever else, and you end up with nothing but backups.

Eli was 19/35, 296 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INT. Giants are 3-1.

Folks, there's another franchise QB in our division. :bang2:

In retrospec, Maybe the Mannings knew Brees was a QB and they did not want Eli sitting like Rivers is doing now. Maybe the forcing of the issue is the difference between becoming a star QB and a career back up? This sitting cant be good for Rivers career.
